[BtS] "Mars, Now!"

Speaking of updating. Um, you might want to fast. Because as the Chinese, I can't build mines. :(
The option is greyed out, or rather blacked out. The M key does nothing.
It says build a Chinese mine, requires Chinese something or other in red text, meaning you can't build a mine at all.

Mmmhh...did you already research mining?
It's required, also if the text says something else.
I should change that, to make it a bit more obvious.

Let's not forget that also the game broke after trying to end the term after the Roswell aliens were found.

You might want to look at that too. For some reason, the game crashes when you go to the next turn.

I had an already fixed small bug in that, but it didn't bring the game to crash.
Do you have a savegame?

I am all the way to almost researching the Automated Society tech. :)

So, um, I think by the time Titanium is revealed, the Chinese can mine, dang it.

As for the Alien bug, I'm not sure.
That should be the good save. I hope.

The what really part I can explain.
I am simply saying that my technology is such that my Chinese should be able to use mines.
At the moment, they cannot.
This is what is known as a major bug. :)
 
You should check out the books by Kim Stanley Robinson, its Red Mars(book1) Green Mars(book2) and Blue Mars(book3)

They could give you some very good ideas about the mods :D
 
I'm enjoying what I've played of this mod so far, but I have run across a minor issue. I'm noticing that the help text for some things is still the vanilla game's help text for something else, and that some technologies have no quote in the pop-up when you discover them. Is this something I somehow managed to do wrong in the installation, or just a case of that text not having been replaced yet?

Vanilla helptexts: :think: strange, i thought, i disabled them. I'll have to look again at that.

Quotes: For these techs (okay, these are the most techs in the tree) are no quotes available at the moment :(.
Searching for quotes is not a nice thing :/.

One more question: The sickness added from sandstorms and magnetic storms to "nearby cities". What's the range on that? Am I only effected if it's in the city's cross, or does it project a certain distance from the storm, or what.

To the issue: Yes, i'm talking about the same, and i thought, that i deactivated these hints some time ago :confused:.
I have to check it again.

It works like the forests in normal civ ;).
They only affect the city, if they are in the city's cross.
 
In my mod I deactivate them like this:

Strategies are easy to just type right into the XML, though, kind of one line tips on what the item means in game. Quotes are Definitely icing for the cake. If you don't have a whole set for all the techs, I think its best to just have not have them. Kind of like either all dds leaderheads or all animated, not a mixture.
 
I thought, the strategy text is a part of the normal civilopedia display and not for Sid's Tips, isn't it?

Tech quotes: Yes, you're right, the sound files from the 2 old quotes i have are now more disturbing than really...really...erm...whatever, atmospheric, or so. I'll probable delete them.

Okay, i can confirm the crash. It has something to do with the terraforming, but i can't say, what exactly and how to fix it, sorry. I have to investage that a bit longer.
I can also confirm the problem with the mines. Say, do you remember, if you maybe got mining through a destroyed colony or so?



Better Mapscripts
Through this small expansion the calculation of the mapscripts will be changed, so that they produce landmasses like in BtS. Instead of water desert will be placed.
Thanks to koma13, who gave me a good example through the Dune Wars mapscript.
Included are:
- random (adjusted)
- Strategea (adjusted)
- Stormhell (adjusted)
- Inland_Sea (adjusted)
- Pangaea
- Continents
- Great_Plains




And a small preview for the next update, which will come (hopefully) in january: water streets :):

Included a lots of dirty hacking and took much longer than expected, but works in most parts :).

that it will place desert type 1 instead of coast and desert type 2 instead of ocean?

we in dune wars use all terrain transport code, if you wish, i can extract it for you.

if not, i thought of a very cool system for transporting units, pm me if your interested.

and if you use all land - dont forget to change all the unitai to land, but you probably know that...:)

Only one type new "desert" i'll add, but that will also need some time.

Unfortunatly, the missing of the current icon is caused by myself, because i've been to stupid to set up phungus' installer correctly :blush:.
There should be an icon, but now i can decide even more, which to use :).
 
I just take a quick test yet, but it convinces me already. I love the leader choice.

Only one question: At my place some religions found by the AI in the first round. Is this intended?
