[BtS] "Mars, Now!"

I think that the Martians are in desperate need of a remake. Their current state makes them constantly near the bottom of the score ranking, all the time, everytime. Their ability to request for water and oxygen without the National Wonder is very useless because (I) don't usually need to request for water or oxygen, never before I build the national wonder. Plus, you would build it anyways for the Happy bonus. It's like CRE/CHA, it's really useless. I think that the Martians should get a special ability for terraforming speed or something (because they're Martians) and maybe get a Unique Unit for Recon Units (Exploreship, Explorerover and Explorer).

Along with the Martians, I think that every Civ should be getting at least one Unique Trait, one UU and one UB. Maybe the Japanese could get Gundams instead of Battle-Tanks and the PSE could get a UU Mercenary (because they can afford a better mercenary).

Also, I think that there really needs to be a counter to genesis weapons. I lost 14 cities to a crazy spamming china. Maybe the MOD? Mars Orbital Initiative? or maybe I've just missed a SDI. I never checked.

The SDI is still in there, haven't changed it. Could be renamed, yup.
How did the map look afterwards :D?

Does Tundra terraform?

No, the Terrain itself is a leftover from the original game, only present on the premade maps.
The mapscripts should not place any tundra, else i'll have to look into that.
I would remove the terrain, but i fear unexpected problems with the mapscripts and other things.

UUs sound okay, but i'll have to look around for some good models.
Not sure why they should get a terraforming bonus, they don't really have an advantage, besides more interest maybe.

Actually, the tundra is from the Big mars scenario. I just realized it's not in the mapscript.:)

We don't need any more mech unit UUs. We need some other UUs. The PSA unit sounds good. Maybe 3 health and more sand and meg resistence, but extra hammers? It would help them with early expansion, and the extra health would be more for garrisonning early cities, because if you attack with a mercenary, you are doing it wrong. Now..Independence Victory!

Independence Victory

Although you are the ruler of a colony on Mars, and you may fancy yourself a king, you are only a colony leader. Your colony is bound to the shackles of your home planet, Earth, and there is no way to get out..or is there?

How to get an Independence victory


An indpendence victory works the same way as a cultural victory, except for a few changes. For one, instead of culture, your cities produce 'nation-feeling' which can be enhanced, like in a normal game. This expands your cultural borders as culture does. However, once you reach the required amount of nation feeling in three cities, the game takes a turn from the normal Civilization, instead veering towards colonization.

The expeditionary force


When you reach the required amount for three cities, instead of winning, a whopping force appears, from the Terran government from which you are breaking away from. It will attack you, and you can not make peace with the entity. If, and when you destroy the force, you win an independence victory, and you colony is free to do what it wants. At least, what you want.


Edit: Just to note, I meant the Mars Orbital Defense, not intiative.
 
Hey, for the Evolution victory, would it not be better to call the buldings this:

Evolutionary Laboratories( Building the Laboratories for new life)

Evolutionary Virus ( Free the Virus)

Evolutionary Media Campaign ( Prop. for new life)

Virus Activation[Need better word] (Free the virus)

Evolutionary Theory ( Vision for new life)

Transformation is fine.

Also, for the civilopedia, I'm going to go in this order.

1. Concepts. I'll finish these quite soon, I'll two articles a day or so. 4-10 on sundays.

2. Nations. This one will take much longer, I'll only get an article or two done a day, but on Sundays, I'll try to get 10 done.

3. Leaders. Like nations, except even longer.

4. Quotes. I'll try getting a quote a day, along with my usual articles.

5. Units, and buildings, then mop up.
 
Mutants ( Barabarians) [Renaming them would be a good idea, since they are not actually barbarians]
Mutants

When you first land on Mars, you'll have a little peace and quiet, but pretty soon you'll run into mutants. Mutants are the results of insane experiments done by the mad scientists living in the first martian colonies. Mutants can be quite dangerous, and a task force is a good idea. You might also meet the crazies that made the mutants in the first place, along with their unfortunate patients.

The concept of Mutants

Mutants are the barbarians of Mars. They are unable to cooperate with, and can only be destroyed. Unlike in Civilization, they do not spawn cities, but they do wander around in increasing intensity as the game progresses. Unlike in Civilization, mutants are not able to spawn normal units, but instead have different types of mutants as their special units. These cannot be built by any colony, and spawn randomly, outside a nation's borders.

All other normal rules applying to barbarians, apply to mutants. Although, mutants cannot spawn in water[Needs clarification].

I need some extra info on mutants. Anyone know anything else, or have I covered everything?

Had not thought further about the evolutionary names, but with the consistency in the name it really looks more professional.

The mutants are a bit covered in the pedia entries for jail and martians, basically as "left overs" from older missions and evil experiments.


Oh, and don't overdo it ;). I love the contributions, but also keep an eye on RL ;).

There is the Andean League, which is a trading/economic community. It's not as political as the EU or the African Union, and I don't know whether or not there is an anthem for it. However, the Peruvian national anthem is best in my opinion. I don't think the Argentine anthem is a good choice because they're only the second-best country in the Southern Cone. I don't like Chile. Brazil, although the largest country in South America, is actually quite out of harmony with the rest of the continent. I don't like Venezuela, and I don't see what Ecuador or Colombia have to offer as the best representative of this continent. Suriname and Guyana are negligible because they aren't the ones who fought for independence, and no one struggled to hold on to them quite the way Spain struggled to hold on to Peru, more so than Venezuela and Argentina. French Guyana is out because it's part of France.

Before coming to Peru, the only things that I thought of when I heard "South America" were the Andes and the Amazon. Argentina has minimal Andes and minimal Amazon, if any. Peru has beaches, the Andes, and the Amazon. Besides, the only major civilization that existed when the Spanish arrived was located in Peru. Oh, and we have La U :p

I'd say you're biased :D.
I do not want to use the anthem of a part for the whole civ, that's not really appropriate imho.
If i can't find anything generic + fitting, then i'll probably decide on the sound :dunno:.
 
yeah, I'm probably biased :p I'm more biased against using the Chilean, Bolivian, Ecuadorian, or Venezuelan national anthems and I have issues using the Argentine anthem.
 
Question - is the front page still up-to-date re: this mod not really being balanced yet? I've been watching it for a while but am hoping to hold out for the finished version. I'm excited to see that it is still very actively being worked on :)
 
Aliens also need to be balanced, they almost always fall behind. For an advanced alien race, they have pretty crappy tech, and can never go beyong mediocre on any game.
 
Even though the aliens get three powerful UUs, they still can't seem to get good. The problem is that they always have to spawn next to another civ, usually late in the game. This means that they often set up in the middle of a resourceless desert flatland with mediocre tech, making it impossible for them to even become a slight impact in the game. They definitely need balancing.

Also, I don't understand what's the deal with the female Korea leader and the imperial looking Chinese leader. Is the female Korean leader supposed to be an nth generation North Korean dictator, because she sure looks like it. Does China return to their imperial ways, because the Chinese leader who's dressed fancy looks like he's some kind imperial bureaucrat.
