Also one thing that hasn't been suggested before, it would be nice if you changed the "Native American" Civ to something that's not so retardedly named. Every other civ is an actual nation, a civilization. Sioux, Iriqous, Appache, just anything that actually can be considered a nation in it's own right seems more apropriate to me.
"Hasn't been suggested before"... are you kidding me? Read-back through the 100+ pages on this thread, and you'll see it's been suggested at least 100 times over!
A few points here...
#1) The Native Americans aren't the only "group" of people listed as opposed to a specific civ... the "Vikings" are a collection of people from various lands, not a specific civilization... so that's actually two, not one that are named in the same fashion. I've often thought about "officially" changing the entire civ name to Scandinavia or something, because I don't want to tick-off the Norwegians or Danes if I just call it Sweden... I can say Scandinavia and include all three.
#2) I'm one of those big jerk-wad, politically-incorrect people that firmly believe no North American Native American tribe is in what I define as a "Civilization". I've got this funny notion about founding permanent cities, forming governments and/or advancing technology as pre-reqs for the term "Civilization", all things Native Americans are pretty weak on. Don't bother coming-up with the 1,000 reasons why you think Native Americans are indeed a civilization, I've heard them all a thousand times over and I'm not changing my mind on the matter. Seriously, I won't budge... I'm that big a jerk on this matter.
#3) I recognize the fact that they should be represented... so while I shudder at the term "Civilization", I allow them to exist because they should be in the game... having said that, much like the Vikings, I'm not really fond of spelling-out the Sioux at the cost of the Apache... or spelling-out the Seminoles at the cost of the Comanche... or spelling-out Iroquois, at the cost of the Mohicans. Get the picture? We could play this game all day long here... no ONE Native American Tribe stands-out in my mind as being representative of ALL North American tribes. As an American, who spent many years in Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma & Florida I've had a lot of info about Native Tribes thrust on me... yeah, I don't classify them as "Civilizations", but they were many, many, many, MANY important tribes in America, and I've always thought those people that feel a huge need to name them as Iroquois or Sioux, then slap themselves on the back for naming one or two tribes out of over 100 then high-five each other is really insulting the Native Americans more then just leaving them as "Native Americans". Unless you're prepared to name every major indian tribe in America, I think it's just best to leave them as a collective civ like Firaxis did... because I think it's damn insulting to honor one or two tribes as a "Civ" at the cost of all others. Naming them after one is like killing the Cherokee nation all over again!
I feel very strongly about this... seriously... I'm NEVER going to change "Native American" to one or two tribe names and call it a day. I think it's hugely insulting to every other tribe in North America to diss them just because you guys feel a need to name one tribe as representative of all North American Indians. For those of you who can't sleep at night with the term "Native American" as a civ in Civ4, it should take you about five seconds to change the civ name in the XML to Iroquois or Sioux and tick-off the other 100 or so major native american tribes in one fell swoop.
For example... to me, naming the Native American tribes after JUST ONE tribe, would be like renaming the "American" Civ to "Texas". Don't you think it would tick-off the other 49 states? I'm not doing it... end of line.
I will, however, add some more native american leader heads to the tribe in the next release... I don't think Sitting Bull should have all the fun by himself... then, whatever leader you get, that will be the tribe of the game... start a new game, get a different tribe with a different leader.
