BTS Roleplay Challange: Roosevelt

Alright, get the Temples (for happy), get the oricle (for Casting Sling), and after our brief stint in Religion, go for Tech Trading/Commerce? (Alphabet/Currency). Or for Iron, Enginiering, Construction, ect...well, industry first. I say a breif stint for Happy, then Tech Trading, but then back to the Industry!

I'll get to the next round of turns over the weekend, I think. If not then, then most certainly Monday. I'll post the round Monday/Tuesday...

REcycling centers remove all building unhealthiy ness....

It's a little hard to do back door domination without direct warfare (unless you count provoking the enemy to attack direct).

Grah...I like you restricts better for some reason. Just one mod, if I may? Allow for swapping between Enviro and Free Market in the Econ Civics. Enviromental Civic is just putting a slap on the "bad" things of industry.

And lurkers are always good to see, I think....>>

Yea....

Have round done. Need to do things off site/for work first, though....

Grah, It's gonna take longer then I thought. Must....remember...to....cut.....out.....screenshots....

(cue whatever music you want, as long as it's rock)

The sun rises on the small American Civilization. The warm light of the sun shines down on the city of Washington, to kiss the buildings and roads with warmth. But the streets will not receive it, the people will not receive it. There fists are in the air, rioting and rampaging through out the city.

This all started when a few people got the idea to start using criminals for the jobs no one wanted to do. And not just use them for that, but give them no choice in the matter. The few who thought of this brought the idea to council, and they came to a standstill because of it. And because they could not make a decision, the people tried to. And they could not make one....

Recap: We're in anarcy for a turn (Turn 25), going to research Myst and build a Worker as soon as we get out (Turn 26). Off to Coppertown!
---

Well, we come out, swap projects (Worker -> Settler), and send the First south-ish, near Coppertown. The Recon group goes east, runs into a village, and...

---
The banged up Recon group marches eastward. The natives had given them gold, which a (small) detachment had been sent to return to Washington with. The land was arid, but looked like it could support a city, given enough improvement. The remaining scouts wave to the elected leader, motioning for him to go and look. "Look, sir! It seems we are not alone."

Unlike the near-by natives, the skin of the workers on this land was darker and rougher. Americans had never seen these people before, and yet they were so close! The workers look up to see the scouts, and let loose a yelp at the sight of the beat up recon group. They had never seen the Americans before, and are just as suprised. Hurriedly, a meeting is formed with there leader...

FOundBabylon.jpg

Woo....Babylon. Haven't run into him in a game. Seems like a hybrid from what I know about the civ IRL. We make peace and move on...

DeadScout.jpg

...well, not that far.

We learn Myst, and then Meditation by turn 43 (hey, I'm doing this with a 2 day memory here!) and build a Worker on the next turn. Three turns later...

---
The burly men of the First March south. They have found a good place for a city just to the north, a place with a strange brown colored metal in the ground nearby. The metal looks like it could make better weapons then the clubs that have slaughtered lions.

As they search, they notice the movements of others. Olive skinned men, wearing bronze-colored armor and wielding long spears. Both the First and the strange men jump back, not knowing what to do. One of the Brigade drops his cudgel, a showing of not wishing to fight. One of the strange men drops his spear....

FoundAlex.jpg

Err....I've played AS the Greeks, but not as him. And I haven't found him as well. Oh jeeze. Well, our chopping has sped up our Settler, and without Writing, might as well try going north again...

FoundJustinian.jpg

WHAT?!? IT'S A ZOM----*cough*cough*cough*. Well, we found who got Buddha first. Religious head-case....at least it's not Izzy...

The Settlers are sent forth soon after, and to break the fog, the Brigade is sent to cover them. They settle one southeast of the flag, and....

Boston.jpg

Woohoo, Boston is born!

Round Two, Cont.
Now what?

Alright, it's turn 66 (Year 2350 BC. For anyone keeping track, yes, this is Epic.), we now have Boston, and what's this? A fifth resource? Woohoo! Boston starts on anti-Barb/Crazy Alex, and the First goes off searching.

Sometime around here (or maybe later, bloody....), we improve the Rice near Washington, and build a mine. But, gosh darn it....

Mines.jpg

After we got Priesthood, we go Masonry -> Writing -> Alphabet -> Iron ->Currency (current, just started). We trade for Archery and AH, and pick up MC via. the Oracle over the next 50-odd turns. We also open borders to Alex and Justain. And....

LookReligion.jpg

Buddhism spreads to Boston! We don't convert, but this DOES give us an opportunity to increase Happiness in our cities soon. Conversion + Temples = :) at last check, state or non-state.

We also build and settle a new Settler.

Providence.jpg

Four resources in the fat cross....SE, leaning towards Engineers and Citizens? Industry first! Or just straight out Cottage Spam? We are going to need moneys....

And the Barbs are getting tougher.

---
"For our brothers and sisters!"

The Third Brigade holds there ground against the mighty barbarians in the forests near soon-to-be-Provodence. They had killed the Second Brigade. They shall not kill again...

---

Attack-1.jpg

Yes, they win. And they get the guys who got the Second as well. Woo!

At turn 118, we learn Iron, and I stop. Other things to do called to me (like food, Persona 3, work.). And I was going to stop after 100 turns anyways....

World State:
World1.jpg

GRAH!!! World2 Screenshot is out for a minute. BRB...

World3.jpg

My, that's a lot of resources. And Hamurabi's getting a little close....>>

We're not going to be able to hook up that Copper as soon as we thought, but look at this...

Luckypop.jpg

Iron. Mmmmmm.....

Empire:

Err.jpg

Yes, you read that right. We've hit Washington's Happy-cap, and Boston's Health cap. Boston's less of a consern then Washington right now, as breaching the Health cap isn't as bad as breaching the Happy one.

Relations:

RelationsGlance.jpg

TechTrades.jpg

It seems Hammurabi and Justain don't like each other...and they both are willing to trade Poly for something. Alex has Sailing, but won't trade it. :(

Tech Tree:

TechTree-1.jpg

I'm reserching Currency, but I think I would rather go for, I don't know, Math or something....and if anyone hasn't noticed, due to lucky pops and someone beating me to a Wonder, I've been running 100% Sci the whole time. That's going to change soon, I bet....

So, counil members, where shall the Americans go next?

Are you building monuments in your new cities? Boston needs a border pop to claim the copper. You should have a monument as your first build there to get the needed border pop. Whip the monument when the city reaches size 2.

Prioritise getting a mine on the iron and a road from the marble to the iron so you can build better units.

You don't have any stone so I would have passed on the great wall. You do have marble and priesthood so the oracle would have been a nice build instead.

Since you don't have any happiness resources you can use right away, monarchy for hereditary rule would be a good choice to tech.

*points out Oracle is built, and claimed Metal Casting from it*

So...Washington builds something else...Scout? Grah....I really should post the save for shadowers....

I missed hte oracle/MC line also and was almost going to post about it. I agree with Njols though, you have three good cities. Get the culture to pop in the latter 2, and get the metal mines hooked up ASAP. Currency is fine to tech but I would be going after Aesthetics/Literature and get the great Library and national wonder ASAP. You have a good tech lead, set up Providence and Boston for military (I would not like Alexander to th south, I cannot tell where everyone else is). I would side with one of the zealots (I do not recall all the limitations) and trade for polytheism from the one you like.

I would take out Alex while getting the other 2 to fight each other.

Oh, and where the devil is New York!!!!

War Limits: Defensive (We defend ourselves, we defend friends).

Nothing stops us from taking the fight to them, they just have to swing first. ;)

Justain sounds...better to get along with, for some odd reason. It'll be easier to contain Alex with him being, well, right there. Hammurabi's to the East, and getting close. Justain's West, Alex South. Boston may need defenders, not that I think about it....

Since you're industrious and can build forges faster, and took MC from Oracle, I'd build a forge in Washington ASAP.

You need to connect your cities together and improve tiles with resources. Build more workers in Washington to do this faster if you need to.

Calendar's a very good tech for you so prioritise that as well.

"Yes, you read that right. We've hit Washington's Happy-cap, and Boston's Health cap. Boston's less of a consern then Washington right now, as breaching the Health cap isn't as bad as breaching the Happy one."

even pre-calendar i see options there:

health cap goes up by 2 in cities with granaries as soon as the wheat by providence is hooked up. for happy, there's gems south of boston that are great for you, +2 :) with your cheap forges. they're close to alex and far from your capital, but if you can defend the city and/or keep him nice to ya, it'd also force him north for ponies rather than in providence's direction. gems are a nice tile for commerce not even counting the :). there's another set right by hammy but i don't know if that's his capital or a new city so i don't know how culture clash would go.

i know you have a zillion things to do, but you need to get a fogbuster south of providence so that barbs can't sneak up on you. i also wanna see the terrain down there, but stationing somebody there to clear the fog and keep it clear is the main thing. until the border expansion we can't even see 3 tiles that touch our (future) fat cross ... not good. you're building a warrior tho, that is good. you said the barbs are getting tougher tho, here's hoping a warrior is enough.

justin and hammy are never going to like each other, they founded different religions and 95% of the time they'll stick with them. choose your sides wisely ;).

edit: a gems city south of boston would fogbust a connection between boston and your other cities. the best fog-busters are cultured cities, as long as you can afford and defend them they do the job way better than troops stationed near the edge of your empire. i don't know whether you can afford it yet, or what the whole terrain picture is down there, i'm just tossing out ideas. hmmz, once you get sailing you're connected by that river, and that path is nicely fogbusted due to the peaks, so that'll be okay actually.

A Zillion? I see four....Defend my cities form Barbs/Eventual Alex backstab or Religious Zealot, keep Ham and Justian from killing each other (to get to the other, they have to pass through me. Grr....), Fogbust south, and get Calender//Industry-type techs.

I'll go fogbusting with the First and/or Third, and get to spreading that religion (for temple happy) and hooking up/improving resources. We are gunning for Diplo, here....

well it always FEELS like a zillion to me ;).

i just loaded the save and saw that justin is directly north of alex. if we do that gems city i was talking about alex is boxed in. that might make him i dunno, feel antsy and want to fight his way out... OTOH diplo-wise, we have justin's religion. if we find the time, we can try to spread it to alex to help all 3 of us get along if we adopt it too? and that way if alex starts a war with us, justin resents him for it. justin may spread it to him actually.

justin is imperialistic, he makes settlers like crazy. i don't expect that we'll get to make many cities up north, he'll get there first most likely.

"Defend my cities form Barbs/Eventual Alex backstab"

see that's gonna be hard for me to give advice on. i adore the guy, never had a problem with him. i use him as my protector and attack puppy, so i can't related to that line of thinking, or tell you how to handle him if he does backstab ya since it's just never happened to me *giggle*. but i'm a terrible military advisor in any situation :crazyeye:

RP Challenge. We can't adopt a religion, nor any Religion Civic except Free Religion when we earn it. Seperation of Church and State, eh?

(but if this was a normal game, I'd a probably become buddies with Justian via religion, and of rushed Ham pretty soon. Grah, I'm stepping it up in my non-posted games now.)

ah sorry on the religion, didn't read first page again.

justin has monotheism, he's in OR. i wonder if he founded that one too. looking at espionage, if you shut off science and put your slider at 100% science and devote it all to him, 0 weight on the other 2, you could see justin's research after 2 or 3 turns of that. he's the only one you could do it in a reasonable amount of time. not everybody does it that way, it does mean losing 2-3 turns of science, but for me it's a huge payoff really quick. you wouldn't lose ground with the other guys since you're only earning 1 to 2 points a turn with each currently.

To be honest you cannot afford to be friends with any of the AIs. No religion, no Monarchy (Alex). Can teh Americans adopt Beuracracy? I think Hammarabi's Favorite civic is that.

actually i realized they changed alex. his favorite civic is vassalage in BtS. how dare they??? that's bad. he might not wanna be my attack puppy so easily any more. waaaaaaaaah. but he was fine in the only BtS game i've met him in so far. hammy's is bur, you're right. justin's is theocracy, so that's a no-go.

Thanks!! I did not realize that about ALEX.

Well, looks like you can get one of the Agressive leaders to become friendly with you. GOOD LUCK, your gonna need it.

Attack dog? YEY! (Woohoo! Jumping through loopholes since 1776, that's America for you)

Wait, wait waitwait....Alex/Justain's going to be tough (Theo AND Vassalage off limits. Grrr), but Hammy we have a chance? *runs off to check the civopiedia*

Oh, dear *insert favorite god/ess here*. I've a bad feeling about this. If we can survive long enough and with enough good will from those three, I won't need my "out" victory, Space....
