BTS Screenshots Repository

Why is it that Australia got it so early? Was there some big mistake made or something where we got it earlier by accident? I do wonder whether Firaxis is steaming about me putting these pics here. I hope it's ok.

I'm surprised no one has talked about the point I made about seige units collecting xp.

Ok I'm not going to make you a Civ hero yet again, even though you are pal. You know the reason as well as I do. For the 4th time in one waking day, BTS caused +100%:culture: in all Australian cities. You need it :mischief:

Watiggi, you are being so helpful! That post above is the longest I have personally seen in CFC. You have so many questions to answer!! Thanks for your help, it helps ease the wait. :D

Anyone with BtS can answer this: do you regularly get random events? Are some more serious than others? What's the worst so far? What kind of changes do they trigger?

I've gone 10-15 turns without a random event, then suddenly having two on consecutive turns. Some are minor (A farm got destroyed), some are not (albeit one does not come to mind at the moment), and some are dependent on other civilizations (Boudica sent me some aid). Most of them are just minor quibbles, like +6 food in a city +1 relations with another civ or something like that. There are also quests, and I've yet to complete them so I don't know what the rewards are. Anyone complete the quests yet?

There are also many events that make you decide between subtracting gold from your treasury or being content with the less favorable outcome. Most of them haven't seemed worth the gold, so I've ignored them.

None of the events I've encountered so far are thoroughly game-changing, with the possible exception that Portugal chose to gift Suyavarman iron during my war with him

Should I remove all ImageShack hosted screenshot links from the index?

No, they just cause a pop-up which is adware, its not spyware, but I detest both (obviously). It causes no harm at all, just you get an extra Internet Explorer (or Firefox whatever) window pop-up. Depending upon your security lvl, it may or may not ask if you want to allow certain cookies to run,.

Again, its not harmful, just annoying.

It should be perfectly alright. The release date in Australia is officially July 20th according to this: http://palgn.com.au/article.php?id=7978, but I'm sure it can't be an accident since apparently a large number of Aussies have purchased the game July 18th (it would be quite a coincidence if all australian game-shops made the same mistake :))

Thanks xfactor, sounds interesting. If you don't mind me asking, exactly what is a quest? Could you give an example?

Some whiny professor in one of your cities says it's his dream to make your civilization the crossroads of the world for education and learning and all that jazz. Then you're told to build 7 or 9 Libraries and you get a reward in the end, and a supposedly even better reward if you build the Great Library too.

Or your naval commanders can be like "Sir! We want to prep for war!" and you're told to build 9 triremes, bonus for Great Lighthouse.

I see a lot of capability for modding in this type of case. Greek civilizations could have more tasks to build Libraries as centers of historical learning/safekeeping, for example, or the Mongols could be tasked to build up Gers as part of a horseriding culture, or something. The possibilities are scintillating ;)

That sounds cool! And yes, I can see lots of modding opportunities too. I think random events are great - they should introduce a greater level of variety in each game.

I really love the idea of them too :)...someone said yesterday, he mined a hill and found truffles in a cave, which gave the hill +1 :food: and + 1:commerce:, which is nice, as that Fast Show guy used to say ;)

I just hope there are a large database of these random events...it can be a bit annoying when you get the same one too often!

Why is it so impossible to post some screenies from Next War Civilopedia as well?

Well, be appreciative of the time these people have spent taking and posting screenshots instead of selfishly playing the game and ignoring us! It takes a little while to quit a game, and load a scenario, so I can understand why they don't want to spend too much time doing that, when they want to play!!

There will be more than 150 events I think, and in a number of case you can decide the output. It will be repetitive only if you play a HUGE number of games. And by the time you will get tired, there will be some mods adding new ones.

Sounds good. I don't mind repitition if I play a lot (probably forget about it anyway), just I don't want the same thing happening every game or every two games. Maybe patches will expand the number of events too.

As for random events, I have taken a list from this thread: Random events - too uncommon?

- Mines losing productivity (temporary?)
- Things selling well on the market
- Research penalty because of a slowdown in research (for whatever reason)
- Forest fires
- Mine accidents
- Tornadoes
- Rats eating food
- Religious miracles
- War aid
- Hunger relief
- Forge destroyed
- Citizen anger over slavery
- Quest to build stables
- Slave revolts
- "Joyous marriages in the Buddhist tradition has forged new bonds between the Maya and the Dutch peoples, who both adore the new couples and are pleased with the behavior of the inlaws from the other nation."
- Markets becoming worldwide centers of global currency, bolstering profits
- Bandits wrecking havoc on farmlands
- Authorities from one civ catching a fugitive from justice from another
- Gold miners "have struck the mother lode"
- Thunderstorm/twister destroys farms
- Pestilence strikes farms
- Interrogate a foreign criminal for + espionage pts
