[BTS] The History of Three Kingdoms

@Shiggs

I think archer barrage would be great. Huang Zhong already has that though it would be interesting if reguar archers get 1 square and Huang Zhong gets two :D

I'm not familiar with DCM, so what is battlefield effects and active defense like?

Liu Bei is really fun. Try moving out of your starting area by going to Ru Nan, and then give your cities to Cao Cao and Sun Ce. Then attack Liu Biao and take Jiang Xia and other cities then go into Shu :D

battlefield effects adds basically just that. The tiles which battles have taken place on, there will be plumes of smoke ect. for a few turns, like this;

active defense....hmmm i meant opportunity fire. my bad. It allows siege units to automatically barrage enemy units which close on their position.

both are pretty darn cool.

On a side note, I had something quite strange happen in this Liu Bei game. I made Liu Chong my vassal (along with a couple others), but eventually his capitol was so overrun from Cao Cao's culture that eventually it just became ruins. I had already played a couple turns before I realized that I lost a vassal and he was "DEAD" from being culture bombed.

This is a somewhat strange effect, not sure if its WAD, but just thought I'd report it.

also the Advisor Mansion (Revival) is spelled wrong, it says Rivival... some of the other revival buildings have the same problem.

Ok, I uploaded a release 2.01 exe installer that incorporated all up-to-date changes.

However, anyone who is fighting a great war in the game should still use patch C instead, because using the installer will break all your previous Saves.

Cool! Keep it up!:thumbsup:

Are you sure domination is impossible? This is a dire news. I mean after a specific stage the only challenge on the map is the map itself.

Anything is possible with Cao Cao, but by vassalizing your foes (Liu Zhang capitulated after the loss of 1 city which had most his advance troops against Zhang Lu, and Liu Biao capitulated after losing 2 cities), you only have half of their land which counts as yours. In most domination games, founding cities on empty land is important, but founding cities is currently impossible with the huge map. Right now I have 34% of land. I'm going for Meng Huo and Sun Ce next, then it's Shi Xie and Gongsun Du last. If I don't have domination by then, I won't have it.

Essentially, conquest becomes easier than domination.

Anybody interested in a succession game? This would bring more attention to the mod for those not yet converted.:lol:

Also, I think that getting rid of settlers basically makes certain civs unwinnable, besides wasting a lot of good land up north and south. (E.g. Shan Yue, Nan Man, all the different Zhangs and Gongsuns). Can we make settlers available after, say, Nine Bestowments? (Right now I count only 6 bestowments) :lol:

I hope the UHV system is implemented next, because as of right now, cultural win is the only possible one for most civs. (Yuan Shao and Sun Ce are probably the only other ones that can do domination or conquest) It would make a whole set of succession games more enjoyable.

E.g.
The Reconquista of Liu Bei (control the traditional lands associated with the Han Dynasty; depose Cao Cao and rescue the emperor)
The Civilizing of Meng Huo (attain certain techs and culture for the barbarian)
The Coronation of Yuan Shao (vassalize Cao Cao, adopt Emperor and Imperial Academy by year x, have at least 8 vassals)
Zhang Lu the Prophet (spread Religion to 50% of population, have at least 6 civs adopt Religion as state religion, build 3 Regional governments for Religion)

Hopefully the team will like it enough to include it in their mod in future releases

AP - you could always play "custom scenario", and turn settlers back on. I only play custom scenario's, so I can disable time and culture victories.

Really random thing just happened.

Playing a multiplayer game with a friend, on turn 81 we suddenly met every civilization on the map. Now, he was Kong Rong and I was Gongsun Du so to suddenly have 22 civs contact you and want border agreements was very annoying 0.0 Any idea why this happened?

Also, Gongsun Dus starting position is horrendous. You could at least give him one worker consider there is so little natural production around his tiles.

Love the new cleaned up interface though, thats very much appreciated.

Also, what is a succession game? :P

Cao Cao tend to build the imperial palace which will trigue a national-wide election, this will cause the situation you described.

AP:

With proper strategies and skills, Liubei, Lv Bu, Liu Biao can also do conquest in deity. In my current game with Lv Bu, I managed to conquer Liubei, Cao Cao, Yuan Shu, Liu Chong, Zhang Xiu, and took most cities from Yuan Shao and Liu Biao before May. 199. So I assume I can win conquest before 202.

Here's the trick, rush Liu Bei and capture Guan Yu:lol:
With elite infantry 5 and attacker 4 upgrades, his legion members have 3 moves and can attack triple times. Literally, you can destroy Yuan Shao with 3 anti-calvary batallion.:lol:

Confirmed: capturing the emperor will allow his palace to be built, which functions like the UN (except for the election part). In my current game Cao Cao already tried twice to be voted Diplomatic Victor, although he is now 4th in score.

About including some DCM components, if you would you should also allow them to be turned on or off, especially the notorious battle effects.

Actually I like these. (With turn period of seasons/months battle effects aren't unrealistic; even army movement may have a terrain effect in real life, as armies need to feed off the land - forage - or be provisioned when on the march.)

Thanks.:)

I will link it to the first post right now.

BTW would you check this: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=310415 and see if you'd like to include the code for it. I think it would be helpful especially for those who seek to build the ultimate legions ever. One piece of info that is so interesting is the one telling how many xp points you may get if you win the battle. Another info that is not in this component but would be of interest is how many GG points you get. GGs are quite a valuable asset now.

I think one of our big partners--the Bug Team (the other being Better BTS AI), is currently looking into including that component into BUG mod. We would better let the specialist to do the better job. I would propose to them the GG stuff too.

I am seriously thinking of giving this mod a go (I only say that because I'm a modder myself and it takes up a lot of my civ time, not because I have my doubts about it). But I was wondering if you put any thought into using some Chinese-flavored units (which are out there) or some of Huayna Capac's great LHs?

I think this would give it a more distinct look. Although the LH images you have are pretty sweet.

Lu Bu is just straight up invincible now with legions. I know the AI dies early with him usually, but under human control its just insane. I don't even need siege weapons. Cao Cao died as quick as possible with little resistance... Yuan Shu, same deal, except I left him one city so I could get a tech from him. Now with 5 legions and emperor support it seems like conquest is quite feasible, and I'm still in the warring-state age. Now to kill Kong Rong and Liu Bei and it'll be all but over once I get Guan Yu.

Maybe just me, but seems like the legions are a little overpowering either that or the AI's just don't use them to their full potential. I know it would be a drag on the system, but I think if they regrouped their legions more often it would be better. That, and focusing in one area, like making their legions really good at certain things and ignoring others.... I know its a bit complicated for AI but they do lack at it a bit now. And thats on emperor level, normal speed... I may have to amp it up next time.

Also the great generals should be "champion" instead of "champions" I do believe. Its also kind of strange that the GG use the same text as the legions, if I recall they are both vaguely named "champions", so the first time I popped a GG, I thought I had popped a legion, but unfortunately he wasn't as cool as Guan Yu, or Zheng Fe...

either way, both the text are in plural form, when it should be singular.

I have an idea for a future release if you would consider it;

Use some of the DCM (dales combat mod) features.... not all, just a few, like archer barrage, battlefield effects, and active defense. Adding those 3 features in my opinion would greatly enhance gameplay and the feel of the mod. Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic mod, just trying to offer suggestions to improve it even further. :)

I'm having a fabulous game right now as Liu Bei ;)

Yes, should be singular for sure.

About the DCM idea: the component you mentioned are all pretty cool. But the question is not whether they are cool or not. The question is what's the best thing we should focus on right now. I think it's balance the current legion system and improve AI performance to provide better challenge for our players. If you want really want archer barrage, go grab Huang Zhong for now.:)

Actually I like these. (With turn period of seasons/months battle effects aren't unrealistic; even army movement may have a terrain effect in real life, as armies need to feed off the land - forage - or be provisioned when on the march.)

It is not the realistic aspect of the component that I don't like it is simply the graphical impact of it. I imagine on the huge map with all the battles fought, the game will become almost unplayable.
