Buce01: The Slavemaster

In general it was a quite set with some wasted time and effort. We are researching at 4 turns per and need only a few specialists for beakerheads.

I spent a ton of cash on improvements. Cities above pop 7 seem to gain from courts and police stations. Metros get about 6 uncorrupted gold regardless of corruption. I built a bunch of hospitals to utilize our land. Once built, those cities can benefit form courts, libs and police stations. We can always sell off some tech if we need more cash.

I panicked last night thinking about the perfect space shot and researched Genetics so I think we have about 12 or 16 turns before we win. I'd like to see us build the ship the same turn we research the final space tech. Manhattan will come in about 8 turns from now. That, with the 6 turns that we will need adds up to 14 turns. Some choices will have to be made about tech research and/or research pace to time it correctly. There might have to be some terrain adjustment needed as well. Once Manhattan comes in, I think that we will need to start our pre-builds. ICBMs and Apollo take 500shields and there are 2 components that need 640s. If Athens can squeeze out 2 more shields we ca get the big build in 10 turns, if not 11 (Rhodes can do it in 8 turns). Thermo can do Apollo in 10 turns. The rest are between 6 to 7 turn builds. The Math is easy and by building from wealth with pre-builds, I think it should be relatively easy to time. The next set will have all the decisions to make.

After the pre-builds are set up, there are about 5 more cities with strong production for any military that we may need and a number of mediocre production cities that can rush military builds cheaply.

Set Log:
Spoiler :
1650AD T0
Wow. This is a big Empire.
Change some builds but not as many as I had planned.

IBT SETI comes in

1655AD T1
Some builds come in and go fix some specialist reassignments

IBT

1660AD T2
Found a couple of cities

IBT Stealth Comes in

1665AD T3
clear some pollution
Continue the war with Willie
Trade Mass Production and Electronics to the Arabs for Furs, maps, 1380g and 109gpt
Trade the same to Osman for 880g, 151gpt and maps
Trade Mass P to Egypt for 80g and 36gpt (all they have)
Realized that the MMing has been overlooked so did the tour. It's interesting. We have some cities that are so big some of those builds that don't usually pay off have some effect so start some police stations and hospitals -- more for fun than anything else :).

IBT Huge cultural expansion

1670AD T4
Take Sippur
Trade Electronics to Egypt fro Maps, 20g and 57gpt

IBT Zzzz

1675AD T5
Realize that the governors have made a mess of the tour last turn. Turn them all off and start from scratch.
After a long MMing session, got us down to 20% research from 40%. (Sorry, I said 10% when I posted but I was wrong)

IBT Builds come in.

1680Ad T6
Raze the tundra Dutch city in the South. Destroy an invasion force. Start sending a landing party to the Eastern Dutch island.
Unfortunately, all the MMing was for naught as we are still at 4-turn research. At least it gets us more cash on the turn before research comes in. I suppose that we are at 89gtp with 100% research and all the builds: up from 36ish.

IBT Inca and Iroquois go to war

1685AD T7
Change the research to genetics (for pre-builds). I lost a turn of research but can keep the shields that have been put into the army, The army would have come in before we could switch it to something else and we lose the turn but keep the shields.

After some input I realize that much of my MMing was wasted. At least we are geting +246gpt with 100% science.

Get Rhodes on Manhattan

IBT Zzzzz

1690AD T8
Finish converting all but 14 cities to farms.

IBT Inca and the Turks go to war.

1695AD T9
Take a Dutch city and found a new one on the island in the middle of the Atlantic.

IBT Zzzz

1670AD T10
Change specialists to taxmen. (326gpt)

The save is too big for the attachment. How do I do this again? I recall you had a similar issue before Buce.

Use the Upload link in the forum menu. It lets you upload files as big as 10MB (your file was just over 0.5MB, IIRC), but you have to copy the link from the upload page into your post.

Do you not realize that we're the only members of the team still posting on Civfanatics, in this and GK? However, I'm not entirely opposed to the idea - GK in particular is far from won - but another couple of reliable players wouldn't hurt.

I dunno, I thought Phaedo might still be posting occasionally.

A couple of new players would be a good idea though.

I haven't seen Phaedo post in a long time; damn shame, it would be great to have him back at CFC.

I think 'Slavemaster' is a foregone conclusion, but I'd be interested in reviving 'GK' if we can get some help - even a three-hander could work if we weren't in a hurry.

I'm still around. I just have been playing Civ IV more lately. I actually don't have Civ III on my pc anymore. I could easily install it though. I would be up for finishing up at least one of the games.

I was interested in finishing off Slavemaster just for form's sake. GK is by far the more interesting situation between the two.

Do either of you fellows mind if I run an extended Slavemaster turnset up to victory?

I had to go waaay back and re-play my last turnset from 2007 due to lack of more recent saves :(

@ Buce - don't worry about it. I learned a lot from this game in spite of any disagreements.

Before Turn 1: One Uranium source exhausted.
IT for Turn 1: Decline UN elections
Turn 3: Synthetic Fibers->Nuclear Power
Change Solar Power plants to other stuff.
Start building Modern Armor in several cities.
Turn 5: The Dutch destroy the Incas.
Turn 6: Try to plant a spy on the Iroquois, fail, and they declare on us!
Turn 8: Renew the lux deals with Willie.
Turn 10 (1650 AD): Destroy the Iroquois.

Edit: Today I got up to 1685, working on researching Robotics (with more MM, I'll get it down to 4-turn research )

Arabs declared war on us -- we had a trade deal that was too expensive for them. I signed MAs with most of the other AIs but left Willie out of it - I didn't want to enrich him.

I'll play more on Friday or Saturday when I'll have time to do some proper micromanagement on the empire -- I REALLY want to hit that 4-turn research time on Robotics.

I finished it off.

Last few turns:

1756 took Bukhara.
1758 Took Yamama.
1760 Dutch demanded Incense and declared war when I refused the demand.
They did a lot of bombing but didn't cause riots in Rhodes, where the last SS part was being built.

LAUNCH!

We're remembered as Alexander the Magnificent!
