Popping this just about every turn starting ~1740:

I am curious, why did it say that Greece and Ethiopia converted to Orthodoxy, when neither civilization exists right now? I did peek in world builder, and they are definitely not there, nor did they collapse recently. I actually destroyed Ethiopia a while ago, and then Greece lost a war with Rome and collapsed. Do they convert automatically so they are Orthodox if they respawn?

Was it after Orthodoxy was founded?

By the looks of it, orthodoxy was never founded, but randomly popped up in the Vikings cities--they were all orthodox suddenly. I don't have the exact save to pinpoint the exact change for this unfortunately, just saves close to the date. I built the apostolic palace in adbju in about 1000ad and got no Orthodoxy event; I built the CHS shortly after as well. Did my very inhistoric playthrough change this? The Eastern Roman Empire never spawned. Egypt(me) is currently alive and well in the 14th century in Australia for instance, and I brought down the Ethiopians and held back the Greeks and Romans long enough that the Greeks collapsed late, and Rome never gained Byzantium.

I also had weirdness, though not similar, when I settled Babylon in Australia. But that was ages ago.

Well, that's a New Kingdom of Egypt indeed. :p

That's easy to check. Has the Apostolic Palace been built around that time?

No, I had built it in Australia in the 10th century (Well, actually 997ad), while this orthodoxy spawn in the Vikings city (with no holy city) occurred in the 9th century. There weren't any classical civilizations in Europe alive after the Arabian spawn. The exact date it says Orthodoxy spawned is 804ad, and as I said it just popped up in the Viking cities without any holy city, and civilizations that no longer exist converted. There is no Hagia Sophia. Also I got no Orthodoxy event when I built the AP, but I did get the Catholic holy city. I also should note I am playing on the easiest difficulty level. I was trying something so out of this world, that I wanted a few practice runs, so that helps explain why I am still alive and stable.

EDIT: I also just noticed that Islam doesn't have a holy city anymore.

Holy Cities disappear if you world that religion away from any city.

Holy Cities disappear if you world that religion away from any city.

I don't recall worlding Islam away from any city. I did a legit persecution in Aksum though.

EDIT: OH nevermind. I remember adding Islam to my capital to see how much instability I'd get from religion disunity, and then I worlded it out. Maybe all my tweaking and testing caused this entire Orthodoxy weirdness, even though I never did much beyond that...

I recently played a Russia game (V/N/600). Even after building a few cities in Siberia, the victory screen insisted that I did not build any. However, when I built my seventh Siberian city, it declared my goal accomplished, even though I did not have a Trans-Siberian railroad (I didn't even have a Siberian port or the Railroad tech).

:goodjob:

Worlding is a good word.

With such divine powers, we are alpha and omega; we have the power to world entire cities into agnosticism.

Leoreth I went back and played the same game from an earlier save, this time without worlding anything. The most I did was looking at the map. No religious tweaking this time.

The game played out slightly differently than last time. I didn't take make peace with Rome or Greece, so the wars with Rome and Greece continued much longer this time. For some reason this allowed Rome and Greece to last longer, but they still collapsed by the 8th century. I got a gem event in Australia, and still gave my core cities to Rome before the Arabian spawn so I wouldn't get hit too hard by the flip.

Anyways nearly the exact same thing happened, but on a different date. Ethiopia (which has been dead for hundreds of turns) converted to Orthodoxy, and Orthodoxy popped up in the Norse cities. Greece, which converted last time despite being dead, did not convert this time. The ERE still didn't spawn, I believe because Rome never conquered Byzantium. The AP hasn't been built yet--I intend to build it soon.

So it seems what I did in my last game didn't really matter. The bug was reproduced anyways.

I uploaded a save right before and right after this happens. I use the latest SVN.
