Bug reports and technical issues

Better settlement of the map seems to be a natural consequence of slower game speeds that's hard to combat.

Looks like the tech speed modifier for them should be adjusted, though?

I'm not sure honestly, I was tweaking with that before in the old RFC: Marathon and ran into issues of way underpowered non-Euro nations (and Germany). I've found the AI in the old RFC via WB seems to have nothing to do but run research in the High Middle Ages. They may to this in normal speed for all I know. Also their cities are often very high in population, the Philadelphia and Boston I inherited were 15 and 13 respectfully while London was over 25 along with several other European cities. I have no idea if this is because of access to new luxuries are allowing them to grow or the AI loves unhappiness.

I guess the safe bet is to just slow down the tech rate for now (10%-ish maybe?) and I can run a number sample to tests runs for you.

Thanks, I think I can commit the corresponding change tonight.

I was playing SVN revision 744 and Apostolic Palace wasn't built before Russian spawn so when Orthodoxy got autofounded it didn't get a Holy City and no one got Apostolic Palace. Also it seems that in this situation AI never builds Apostolic Palace (it didn't for hundreds of turns), but human player can do it. It seems odd not to have Apostolic Palace (and voting) or Ortodox Holy City at all. Is this a bug or a feature?

Uh-oh. I am not convinced that straight research rate is the issue, but it is worth a shot - I certainly would not be updating my SVN to play a game until it is proven.

Based on my 600 AD normal speed observations, it seems like Europe is a bit behind, and then at some point picks up considerably, probably a certain technology to where it is too fast. Based on England's relative success, my guess is that it is banking, a technology that AI England beelines. Here is my suggestion: Double the price of banking and corporation, 1.5x that of economics, and discourage these technologies in general compared to Astronomy and the culture techs (drama, music, and patronage, which seem to be afterthoughts for the average AI).
This should also help the trading companies happen a bit later, which will also slow down tech speed a little for the worst offender, and make the wonder situation in Europe a bit more competitive for the player.

You're absolutely right, and the 4 gold are from markets and grocers, here's the save from a slightly later date where the problem remains.

The castle problem was a mistake on my part, I thought I got engineering from trade but actually no one was willing to trade it with me because I didn't have enough to offer.
Okay, issue is resolved now. Thanks for providing the save!

Helle. There is a SVN bug it seems :

When I start the SVN version I got an Economic Advisor Screen at the beginning of each turn, then You have been defearted screen.

I have the most up to date version, renamed RFC Dawn of Civilization.

It would help me a lot if you could enable logging and show me your PythonErr.log file.

I have researched the error in the forum and it sayed me it was caused by a lack of RAM, and it is true I have a little RAM on an old PC.

So I have uninstalled the mod and cannot bring you this log.

Actually, I would've preferred to make sure that this is the reason :)

But you are of course free to do what you want.

Screenshots? Or even better, a save to reproduce the situation?

Ending current turn in this save triggers trading offer from someone and that message appears.

Awesome, thanks. Will give it a look as soon as time permits.

Hi all,

Forgive my ignorance, but I searched through the pages and couldn't find an answer here. I extracted V1.11 to the area specified. When I go into Civ 4, Load a Mod and select RFC Dawn of Civilization nothing happens. I mean, the entire game disappears. It's not running in the background or anything. I receive no error messages...the game simply disappears, and I go back to my desktop.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to the forum!

That's my development environment, so I'm sure it can work :) A couple of standard questions:

1) Have you updated BtS to 3.19?
2) Are you using the Steam version of BtS?
3) Have you tried starting the mod by clicking one of the scenarios in the PublicMaps folder?

Well I just crashed in mid-sim for an American start but I can't find the damn crash report. It totally didn't tell me where it was going to do the crash dump.

Thanks for the quick response. I must have missed the instructions for that. I currently have the Civilization "Complete" edition. Will I need to purchase BtS from Steam? Will this be compatible with the Complete edition, or will I need to buy the original+Warlords+BtS in order to install this mod?

I tried the PublicMaps with no success.
