Bug Reports and Technical Issues

I'm installing it on a new computer. The mod is not showing up, although I haven't done these instructions of yours: " ; Set to 1 for no python exception popups
HidePythonExceptions = 0
[...]
; Enable the logging system
LoggingEnabled = 1 "

The reason I can't do them is because I can't find civ4 config link in beyond the sword. Here is where I go to search for it: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword

Is that where it is supposed to be? I'm not seeing anything that says _Civ4config.

Am I looking in the right place?

Thanks!

I'm never sure with the Steam installation of BtS, _Civ4Config is in the Beyond the Sword directory for the DVD installation at least. Can someone with Steam help out? Otherwise, you might find the same file under the name of CivilizationIV in My Games/Beyond the Sword/.

But if the mod doesn't even show up (I assume in the mod selection menu?) then you have other problems where logs won't help.

Have you already updated your new installation to version 3.19 (patch is here on CFC)? Also, the last point in the FAQ in the OP of this thread might apply to you.

Issue got resolved on my own, I apologize for wasting your time. Apparently I was looking in the wrong folder or something. I simply went to file explorer and typed in "beyond the sword". It searched my entire computer and finally found several different files by that name. One of them happened to be the correct one with the config file. This resolved the issue.

So I suppose I have one final question, although this one is less important since it's more of a convenience thing than anything else:

Is there a way to get yourself an icon on the desktop and start Dawn of civilization without having to boot it up from Beyond the Sword, so it will load the game automatically?

Yes, just make a copy of the normal shortcut to Beyond the Sword, then edit its Properties by setting the Target entry to: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod=\RFC Dawn of Civilization

Assuming your location from two posts prior is correct.

By the way, how did you download the mod? The default download for version 1.13 comes with an installer that offers you to create the shortcut automatically.

Playing 1.13 not latest updates or anything like that.

With greece, when the turks arrive after beating them, even capitulating still my forces walk over to them... some turns later...

Wait, so the Turks are at peace with you and capitulated, but your units are still defecting?

That isn't WAD? Then I should probably mention that you'll still get defectors even if you destroy the civ they're defecting to, and that this has been the state of affairs since at least 1.10.

Also, a small issue with civ dynamic names - Phoenicia's dynamic name when its capital switches to Carthage is currently "CarthaginianCarthaginians City-States".

One more thing. Was Harappa being changed from player-only to always existing in 3000 BC intentional? If not, well, they always spawn in the 3000 BC scenario right now. If that is intentional, then there's an issue that needs to be addressed. As is, Harappa's culture spreads to Delhi's tile before it gets a chance to spawn, thus preventing it from existing when India spawns. It then appears as an Independant city on the turn that it would normally flip to India (and no, it doesn't then immediately flip - or ever flip, except possibly via culture-flip to Harappa).

So it only ends if you normally make peace? Or not even then?

No, that's not intentional. Probably a consequence of my work on making the Rise and Fall code easier to maintain.

Alright, I will fix that.

Love what you are doing Leoreth. I downloaded the 1.13 version and I love all the new additions. My one problem I do have is that I'm never am able to found a city through the congresses. The AI do it all the time, but I never get the option.

Thanks!

Your options depend on how many cities there are you have a claim on, if there are enough they might override founding options. There is also a factor of randomization in there, but generally city claims have precedence. So it's probably a combination of your game situation and a part of chance.

Noted, I'm surprised I missed that.

I was playing the Thai with a flipped Angkor from the Khemer, and it seems such an "Ayutthaya" 1E from where it is normally found does not compute into the second UHV goal. It was the most populous city, yet the goal failed even while showing "most populous city: Ayutthaya".
Could be it's a little too strict in the tiles it checks for a particular city, unlike for example the checks for the Turkish UHV which allow 2x2 or 3x3 positions for the relevant cities IIRC. Could it be updated so it allows at least either the Angkor tile or the sugar tile as locations for it? Or is there a possible abuse to avoid somewhere?

Capital goals are generally strict for a reason, it makes them easier to balance if the options are limited. That said, I don't think the Thais should be penalized for flipping Angkor on spawn.

Is it be feasible to allow UHV capitals to be anywhere in 3x3 area centered on the current designated capital tile. That would naturally make forced razings unnecessary.

It is, but as I said, it is deliberate that you are confined to one specific tile.
