I started a game where Ethiopians had some sort of horsey unit that seemed too advanced for them (sorry, I didn't pay attention to the name of the unit...but the icon seemed like it wasn't just a regular horseman or anything), and then a few turns later, they had a landship.
After that game crashed to desktop, I decided to play another, and within a few turns, the Romans had the same advanced horsey guy.
I don't have any logs (at the time, I blamed the problem on Cultural Diversity or some other mod...plus, the games keep crashing in the early turns), but it seems like there is something that is causing AI to have advanced units, and which may be upgrading them to even more advanced units.
I'm getting a crash when hovering over the top panel research area. Using EUI, all downloaded from the latest version. I've cleared the cache and mod user data.
It's the Russian Cossack. It comes from ExCE's Cossack Tribe, which allows you to build Cossacks should you have that Tribe within your borders. When the game begins, it selects the strongest available unit. Normally, this is the Warrior, but in ExCE it is the Cossack. I had made a cheap workaround for this, but it appears to have broken (with or without CBP, I'm not sure). However, I've implemented a better workaround in the next version - I just need to finish that version before updating. For the time being, I recommend disabling Tribes in the included user settings file.
CulDiv doesn't really change gameplay. Most of it's features are configured and applied before game start, so it shouldn't be the source of any crashes. I don't know about ExCE, but I've had very stable games with it.
