I apologize if I've just overlooked the answer to this, but I've been trying to fix it since v(8-24). As new versions have come out, I've wiped my cache and ModUserData folders and installed the new versions. I've also started a new game, each time.

I'm also using the EUI (CBP v8-29).

(I'm 99% sure that's the current/correct modlist. I'll double-check it after this post and edit if necessary.) Seem to have missed one or two. Updated.

A large number of icons seem to be glitching out on me somewhat regularly:
  • Most of the notification pop-ups on the right-hand side
  • Religion icons in the city banner
  • Some icons on the tech tree, seemingly at random
There have been more, but exactly WHAT glitches out hasn't always been the same. I've found that deleting the LUA folder from the Compatibility files seems to cure these errors, but at the expense of some of the CBP-suite functionality, like asking leaders what they think of other leaders. (Said button is unavailable as an option with the LUA folder disabled). I have already deleted the LUA folders from CP and CBP in each version.

(By 'glitching out,' I mean that they are almost always black squares, except when they're black squares with red lines or simply don't render at all, leaving a blank space.)

I thought I had logging enabled, but unless I'm looking at the wrong log, it's empty, so I'm going to go turn that on and try to replicate the problem to give you guys some logs. Anything else I can provide?

EDIT:
Posting from inside the Steam overlay to note that we seem to have a mechanic effect, here. I go to reproduce the problem for the mechanics (you guys) and the problem vanishes. No graphical issues at all, so far. I'm continuing to play until I see one. Apparently logging was turned off, so I made the changes listed in the logging link at the top of this thread. I guess that was the panacea? I don't understand, but I'm not going to look a gift-horse in the mouth, for now.

And after 40-ish turns, I have my first glitch-out. This time it's the Engineer Specialist in the Royal Guardhouse building. I forgot to screenshot it before closing Civ V to post this, and upon going back in to grab the screenshot, it was fixed. Does this mean it's some issue on rendering side, rather than file-side?

Above, two glitching icons on wonders in the Civilopedia. Note the tooltip icon AND the main icon are blank and/or glitching.

Here, the empty pop-up notification is for the discovery of the barbarian camp - the circle rendered fine, but not the icon within. I've also had these pop-ups render the way the icons in the previous two screencaps did.

I've saved a copy of all my logs at this point, so just tell me which ones, if any, you'd like me to attach.

Sounds like it might be a direct x issue, or perhaps a video driver issue. I'd reload them and make sure that your civ install is up to date. If still messed up, enable logging and post your database and lua logs after starting up a game.

It seems to be that EUI is the culprit for the CTD, the game works fine when using all the other files and the non-EUI compatibility one. Would it have something to do with the research icon up there or some weird thing? It's the only visual difference that stands out to me.

It's odd, as I use EUI for testing and have never encountered the bug. It has to be a conflict between EUI and a non-CP/CBP mod.

I'll give it another go, the last time though it was all EUI and CBP + CBP EUI compatible mods and it still crashed. I'll check right now.

Try the absolute base set (CP/CBP/CSD/C4DF) and EUI and report back. If it crashes, I want the minidump file. I can't get it to crash that way.

Huh, looks like it worked this time. No CTD at all when brought up to the research top panel. Weird considering I tried it before with the same files and I crashed. I'll go through the mods I use and see if something causes the CTD again.

Okay, so this is weird.

It worked fine, I could use all of my mods and I didn't have any issues. Research top panel didn't give a CTD, fun stuff. So I tried another game and I got the CTD, didn't change a thing as far as I could tell.

I see two things.

Database:

Is this an IGE issue?

One of your mods is overriding the YieldIconManager of the CP. Lua Log:

IGE does have compatibility issues with EUI but I followed the directions to make it work from the EUI page.

As for the YieldIconManager, I'll try again and see what doesn't play nice. When I used the search bar to find other YieldIconManager files the only ones that came up were CP and the CBP EUI Compatibility files. Don't know if that helps.

Did you delete the LUA folder in CP?

Yep, LUA of the CP and CBP are deleted. I did forget to delete the CP LUA in that one before but even deleted and the cache and ModUserData to reset it still causes a crash. I'll go through my mods again.

Edit: Just using the CP mods and EUI I get the CTD again. Here's the lua and database logs.

Crimson, just letting you know I'm out here with the same problem. Just moving the cursor over the upper left area CTD's. I'm glad you've seen it occur without RAS as I use that a lot more than you :) So far I haven't found any consistent factor, but I haven't had time to look at it due to work :(

I'll post anything I can come up with to differentiate and help you guys maybe figure it out, but I wanted you to know you're not alone at least :)
 
I think this was reported as being a bug with the barbarian enhancements mod.

Yes indeed. I had actually uninstalled that mod, but apparently the bug was still in effect until I cleared my cache. :crazyeye:
 
You should always clear the cache and moduserdata folders after switching versions.

Edit: it is happening for major civilization cities also.

Will try running just CP, CBP, etc. to see if it could be a mod conflict.
 
It seems after updating to the latest version (9/1 No EUI), I've lost my top-panel icons for Health & Plague.
 
I have the same problem a few guys had the other day - moving the mouse to upper left corner causes a CTD.

Everything is up to date, Lua folders of CP and CBP deleted. Cache deleted. Ideas?
 
Barbarians can't capture city states. They are assaulting a city state and after attacking, the barbarian unit disappears.

The city state loses its remaining hit points then gains one hit point after the attack.

Edit: it is happening for major civilization cities also.

Will try running just CP, CBP, etc. to see if it could be a mod conflict.

To my knowledge, Barbarians can't capture cities unless you install a mod that specifically allows them to.

I did happen to have a video driver update waiting, so I grabbed that, but otherwise everything is up-to-date, as far as I can tell.

It's a slightly different modlist from my previous post, but I've been experiencing this problem over multiple different load lists. Essentially all of these mods except the Civs tend to be loaded if I'm going to play a full game, unless I forget something minor like aircraft anims or RED. If it would be helpful, I can start trying to single out conflicting mods, but as the problem is intermittent and does not seem to persist in the same place after closing and re-opening the game, this might get a little time-consuming - especially if you happen to update mid-stream. I do have the database and lua logs from opening a game with just a barebones CBP setup (i.e. just the stuff in the Install thread). I didn't have said run-through open long enough to find any errors, though. I can check that route, as well, if necessary.

And for good measure, a shortlist of my hardware:

  • 16 GB RAM total (I forget the model, but I think they're Ripjaws. I can check if anyone thinks it relevant)

  • DirectX 11 (or possibly 11.1; dxdiag doesn't differentiate, apparently. Nothing visible in my updates, though.)

Also, a baffling new screencap. I'm also getting lots of the black squares with red artifacts, but this shows one of the other kinds of errors I tend to get, though not as often:

I opened the Ideologies menu, then went back to policies, and that random background was replaced with a black square.

Maybe there's a LUA conflict somewhere? The fact that deleting the compatibility patch's LUA folder cleared all of these issues leads me to believe it's somehow connected to that, but I'm not positive at all. I think I'm going to test the barebones CBP game later today.

Try running just the highlighted mods, to see if we can figure out if this is a hardware issue or a mod conflict.
