Bugs1 - The League of Ordinary Gentlemen

It looks like Scout gets to lead our D-Day invasion.

I think we should probably save the leader for ToE.

I doubt our leaders can rush great wonders, when i interpret this quote from Gengis:

9-(570)--- Elite sword kills an archer & suddenly the whole getting sneak attacked was worth it. This brings up an interesting question, can we rush wonders?

IT- Archer & Jag tag team our horse & kill it.
Egypt signs Rome into the war with Persia.

Spokane riots.
Atlanta: spear>horse

10-(550)--- In short, no. Vet Sw kills archer.

Italics by me
Post from here
When i'am wrong at this, Gengis may correct me ;).
Otherwise we should decide between a small wonder and an army.

@ Yoshi - nice eye! I'll wait for Gengis to weigh in ... but even if I do make an army, I'll leave it empty. We don't even have Cavalry yet, do we?

While we're waiting on GK and Bede to offer comments, I'm going to see if I can't scrounge up a little "mood music" for operation silkworm...

In that case, I like Scout's idea of a Military Academy to use Armies as a pre-build.

I'd say build it in NYC since it presently has 20 uncorrupted SPT and that will get better with rails.

Edit - Now that peace has taken over - We're starting to catch the PTW team... They're at 1325 AD, we're at 1100 Ad.

Hey guys this is an awesome story thread I've been following it for about a week now and checking in on the saves. You know you can make an embassy with Persia now, right? I'm not trying to give advice really since you are all so much better than me I just was wondering if it even mattered to you.

By the way....what does MM mean?

Keep up the great work!!! I think I'll try a normal game along these lines!

Armies make great pre-builds, and are also a neat way to transfer production to corrupt or shield poor locations for those times when the cash situation makes cash rushes tough. You take a hit on the conversion but it is sometimes useful when you have nothing more useful to do in your MilAcad city.

So if we have a leader use it for the MilAcad in our shield richest city. We have already built Heroic Epic, no?

Good job, Bugs. And, Isabella in her new frock is just stunning!! I'd dance with her in the Party Lounge!

InRhino, welcome to the adventures of this motley crew. and MM stands for micro-management: the art or science, of assigning citizens to those tiles that make the greatest contribution to the objectives for a particular city. It plays a really big role in Conquests because of the power of the specialists, although it is crucial in the other versions as well.

Though this is a "got it", I'm listening to my "mood music" and will probably check the thread again after my pre-flight check...

I have settled on the soundtrack from the motion picture Glory (performed by the Harlem Boys Choir). "A Call to Arms" is playing at this writing... after which I will skip forward to "Preparations for Battle" and "Charging Fort Wagner". No gentleman could listen to this music without something stirring deep within his soul....

It appears the League has reached a consensus that it would be appropo to rush the Military Academy in a high-shield city, most likely New York. Although it seems blasphemous for General Lee to found this institution in New York, it does seem fitting that the young gentlemen of our civilization are afforded an education in the profession of arms.

Edit: @ Invisible Rhino: "MM" refers to "MicroManaging"...

So rename New York to West Point, "Marse Rob" graduated from that fine institution, IIRC.

What is the strange building you keep speaking of, this "Military Academy", we of the PTW version have preferred to play a more gentlemanly game, with only an occaisional thumping of the local bully (Shaka, Monty, Toku, Caesar, Otto & Abu). We will soon find it necessary to remove the barbarian Xerxes, to prevent him from badgering any of the lovely maidens. Then it will be time to offer the ladies a ride on our shiny new spaceship.

The Military Academies produce fine gentlemen. Congress even approves of their gentlemen status. I happen to be a product of Canoe U on the Severn. I guess that shoots that theory full of holes doesn't it.

If you guys are such gentlemen, can you explain why the Queens view you with such suspicion?

Officers and Gentlemen, we are. or will be.

It's those lies and fabrications spread by those ruffians we disposed of, they tainted the fair maidens opinion of us, but with gifts of furs and gems we will win back their favor.

Apologies as to the aspersions on the fine officers and gentlemen who matriculate from these fine institutions, it’s just puzzling as to how one acquires the ability to build theses structures. I’ve heard rumors of large groups of men who fight battles as unit, but they require wasting a valuable Great Leader, who has proved much more useful to us in attaining Wonders of the World. Of course that mighy mean you actually prefer the engagement in armed combat to the pure pursuits of science and the arts. :D

As always (with tongue firmly planted in cheek) best of luck in your battles

I think it is due to the plethora of leaders we had due to the numerous battles we fought defending the honor of the fair maidens.

Boy, now that's a dubious endorsement if I ever heard one... :p I should be careful...because there's a story of an Executive Order and a "funny hat" in my checkered past...

Why are we still researching at 10%? Are we going to crank this up soon?

Okay - Pre-flight check... Joan is the only one who will trade us Military Tradition, and she wants our WM, our treasury and 80gpt. We're gonna have to wait on that one.

Treasury at +97gpt, research and lux @ 10%, Steam Power in 36 turns.

City Check

Brownsville, Univ. in 3, hire a Scientist...scratch that...move a citizen to a riverside tile...
St. Louis mm citizen to mined plains for bank 2 turns faster
Wilmington, similar move, aqueduct 2 turns sooner
Pittsburg, cut 5 turns off Market build
Cut 4 turns off market build in Chapel Hill
Hire a couple of tax collectors in Mexico City
Shave 1 turn off Cathedral in Washington
Shave 3 turns off Bank in Halle
Shave 5 turns off Market build in Southend
Shave a turn off the library build in Des Moines
Pensacola Beach is maxed in population w/o an aqueduct, only one citizen working coast.. corrupt. Switch Harbor build to market.
Shave 2 turns off bank build in Coeur d'Alene
Everybody is Happy in Atlanta... building Cathedral...hmmm...
Shave a turn off the market build in East Rutherford
shave 2 turns off bank build in Seattle
Cut Library build in Annapolis to 11 turns from 22. Go Navy. Heh. Plebes are illiterate here...
Cut Library build in Rockaway Beach to 12 turns from 28

Some of these moves will slow growth in a couple of cities, but many of our cities are at or near capacity. I hope the long and short-term boost to the the treasury and research helps. We're now at +100 gpt, and we're going to get a few markets and banks sooner...

That one kind of answered itself. I imagine we'll be able to start self research soon, but for now it is actually cheaper to buy from the AI.

If you get enough $$$, you might be able to get a two or three-fer. Buy steam, then resell it to someone for medicine, and someone else for Mil Trad, and a fourth party for Nationalism (this last one isn't likely since nationalism is very expensive.)

Fellow Gentlemen,

Although I have not yet actually played my first turn in this round, I feel it is imprortant to inform you all of an upcoming party that I have organized on your behalf. It seems that our dear friend Joan has had a falling out with her next door neighbor. In the IBT before my first turn, she announced that she and Xerxes were officially having a lovers' quarrel.

I apologize in advance for the libations, I fear the gin must be bruised a bit. But since this promises to be a rather raucous party, I felt the martinis would be better served shaken rather than stirred.

Recognizing an opportunity to improve our standing in the community, I have taken the liberty of organizing a small drop-in party for the jilted X-man. The party is to be held at his house. Please review the attached invitation and let me know if I have neglected anyone of standing before I send these out.

Please accept my apologies for sending these invitations with the weekend upon us, but as a great bard once said "There's a mighty thin line between Saturday night and Sunday mornin'!"

I enclose the invitation on the next page for your consideration. Please RSVP to the soon-to-be-built Military Academy, New York.

Yours very truly,
-Scout

Did you remember to invite the guy hiding under the table in the corner? I'd hate to see somebody get left out. Oh, it's Abu, isn't it? Well, he can't drink martinis anyway
