Semantics? From you, EL_M? Why I am shocked. The GOP was 'formed' out of the remnants of the Whigs, Nothern democrats and the free-soilers in 1854, six years prior to Lincoln becoming President.

Was Lincoln involved with this party before he was president? I dunno. I'd think the president resulting from their name-change had something to do with them.

Regardless, you've been tilting at 'founded' for a couple pages now. If you want to tilt at 'formed', go ahead. It just bothered me to see an argument where someone was being forced to defend a statement that was misrepresented.

So, are you glad that the Patriot Act is being used to hide something (which was lied about) from Congress? Was it worth the pork required to get it passed?

As I already pointed out, Lincoln wasnt their first Presidential nominee.

In regards to a political entity founded and formed = pretty much the same thing. If Unser felt the need to clarify then let him. He didnt, so perhaps to him, like me, the two words are essentially interchangable in their meaning in regards to the arguement.

Of course there was pork attached to the PATRIOT Act. Otherwise, some Muslim terrorist would have had it for lunch by now.

Nevertheless, it is good to see that the Act has be heroically used by the Administration to enable it to replace the 8 terrorist U.S. Attorneys that were originally appointed by Bush.

Senior Justice official resigns
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Justice Department official Monica Goodling, who had raised controversy by invoking the 5th Amendment in her refusal to testify before Congress, resigned her job as counselor to the attorney general late Friday.

In a brief letter to Alberto Gonzales, Goodling gave no reason for her resignation but said it was effective April 7th.

"I am hereby submit my resignation to the Office of the Attorney General, effective April 7, 2007. It has been an honor to have served at the Department of Justice for the past five years," Goodling said.

"May God bless you richly as you continue your service to America," she concluded.

The resignation came suddenly just as the Justice Department was closing for the Easter weekend, and with no warning.

Hours earlier, officials said she continued in her status of being paid while on regular leave.

Actually, she was Abu Gonzo's aide, not a Bush aide, but is is understandable to miss that point since they seem to think they are working for Bush and not the Justice Department.

Since she went to Pat Robertson's law school, it is interesting she would pick Good Friday to self-crucify. I wonder what stain this Monica has on her dress? She can't claim the 5th Amendment unless she is afraid she may have done an incriminating act that would be revealed if she testified truthfully.
