Religion, as opposed to individual spirituality, is just the paint with wich we colour the philosophical and cultural house we're living in. If Civ4 introduced the paint, then Civ5 seems to focus on the house.

Think of it this way; In real life, what part(s) of our culture or national character moves us into founding or adopting a new religion? Are we traditional, peaceful, warlike, fanatical, open-minded, zealous? Do we exhibit cohesion or individualism, are we being liberal or conservative regarding our own way of live? Do we like other countries and cultures because of certain aspects of their culture despite their different religious colour? Are you a christian or a muslim but still fond of Tibet? Have people of the same religious colour fought each other due to opposing philosophies?

Should Civ5 have the religious paint as well? It could I guess, it's not an insignificant aspect, but it is difficult to implement in a good way and how culture and philosophy affects diplomacy is much more important IMO.

I anticipate that Civ5 will be taking a big step forward towards a better, more realistic, more advanced and diverse gameplay.
