C2C Italian translation

@AIAndy I found the files that cause an error, do you want me to fix them?

Never mind, I fixed the platyping gametext. I did the italian transations and put the english one to german, spanish and french (some entries were blank even in french). Now all the languages are working fine

I intend to change the reading code in general to avoid that kind of issue and allow additional languages.

New translations done

I've started translating Hydro's stuff and, wow, it is a LOT of stuff to be translated; just the first file I did is more than 6k lines (in comparison, RoM_objects, which has a lot of RoM gametext, has 18k lines..)

my congrats to you, Hydro

I just realised there is no point in me doing these, Hydro constantly overwrites updates on the SVN to his folders, ie he ignores any work don on stuff in his folders by others. He will have to do these.

Naw I have been much better. Both when people have warned me and when they haven't. If someone wants to update my text files with translations on the SVN go ahead.

EDIT: I will update those though. No need to wait on me next time.

Continuing to translate text in Hydro's folder..... by the way I noticed two things

I) @DH at rev 5314 you modified lumbermill into lumber mill, but you used an old file and you erased my italian translations; I have reuploaded Hydro_craft_gametext with my translations and your modify (let me know if its all ok)

II) @Strategyonly (this is not linked to Hdro's stuff) at rev 5315 you added a new version for the iroquois civ; unfortunately, you didn't upload the gametext for that civ (or at least, it's not in the same folder)

Hi again =)

I almost finished the tranlations for Hydro's folder. The "almost" means that I wanted to traslate also the pedia entries, but I didn't have time to do them. Anyway, every building present in Hydro's folder has now at least the in-game and strategy text translated =)

I'm sorry to say that I won't be able to translate anything for at least two months from now on, but I plan to come back somewhen at the beginning of october

See you again, and keep up your good work =)

Can't you just cooy the italian Wikipedia article?
It's not excactly the same, but the pedia is only to get an idea what something is, and therefore, this strategy is absolutely adequate.

As I said, I don't have much time =( ; I thought that it was more important to have the in-game test translated first (the strategy text is often "standardized", so using notepad you acn translate more than a line at the same time)

copying the italian wikipedia means that after that I have to "clean" the article, which takes time; more or less in the same time, I can translate the english pedia entry with an internet translator and correct it.
In short yes, using the italian wikipedia should be faster, but I'd like to have to have a translation more similar to the original. I understand your point, though

I also don't just mindless grab wikipedia. I usually take a short snippet rather than the ensure article and format it so it don't leave weird spaces and stuff.

Grazie! :goodjob:

Yeah, I meant an abstract from the article to be correct ;)
I usually take only the first or maybe second paragraph if they make sense.

Hi all =)

I finally found the time to collect what I did in the last month and uploaded it. I basically translated all the files in .../Modules/Custom_religions
I also added a few strategy text which were labelled as "not available yet" for languages different from italian (especially for some old RoM and BTS wonders, such as Wudang Mountain, Nara's Buddha and so on)

EDIT: I just realized I uploaded the femalemissionaries gametext,which is broken (see attachment for error); merge it only if you can fix it, otherwise I will re-translate it

Just a question: if you upload his files, won't this remove the text for everything that was added after he downloaded his files to edit?
Or is there a way you can merge it?

I do a merge by hand to ensure things are OK. Although I missed a couple of duplicate lines this merge.

I just started translating stuff in DH's captive folder. I found something like this:

Spoiler :
<TEXT>
<Tag>TXT_KEY_BUILDING_SLAVE_COMPOUND</Tag>
<English>Slave Compound</English>
</TEXT>

My question is: the good way for add a translation is A or B? (see below)

Spoiler :
A)
<TEXT>
<Tag>TXT_KEY_BUILDING_SLAVE_COMPOUND</Tag>
<English>Slave Compound</English>
<Italian>Baracca degli schiavi</Italian>
</TEXT>

B)
<TEXT>
<Tag>TXT_KEY_BUILDING_SLAVE_COMPOUND</Tag>
<English>Slave Compound</English>
<French></French>
<German></German>
<Italian>Baracca degli schiavi</Italian>
<Spanish></Spanish>
</TEXT>

I ask this because I don't know if Civ reads these entries by their "tag" (italian, french and so on) or by their position (english is 0, french is 1, german is 2...)
Another doubt: instead of having <Spanish></Spanish> is it good to have <Spanish/> (or is it the opposite, </Spanish>)?

A is fine. A and B are now equivalent in C2C as order is no longer important except that the first is the default if the language you are playing is not present.
