C2C: Promotions

@Hydro: I was just looking through RI, and they have a LOT of promotions that I have not converted yet for C2C. I think that now I am going to go through and convert all of them for C2C.

However, I know that RI has some odd mechanics that don't exist in C2C, and so wanted to ask you if there are any promotions you would like for me to skip in this process. Thanks in advance.

Some I don't think should be converted since we either have them already under another name or they just don't fit our mod.

Which promotions do you have in mind?

That's just it is that I want to convert all of them, with the exception of the ones we already have or ones that don't fit. I was asking mostly if you had a list of ones you didn't want converted, and I'd do all of the rest.

Well there are actually not that many left. Some are pseudo-promotions that are just given to units in order to give them them a line of promotions. The reason is they are given by wonders which then in turn unlock the line (much like how only our Law Enforcement units get the Police Promotions).

Off the top of my head we already said no to the "Fire" line of promotions.

In short I think you should start listing promotions you think should be converted and I will let you know why or why not and what should be changed.

Alright, I found a few good ones to convert. They are;

  • Artillery Promotions (ap, counter, supp)
  • depthcharges
  • Drill V
  • guidedmissiles
  • projection 1-3

How do those sound? These are their code/icon names, not their acutal names, which I did not bother to find. :rolleyes:

I will have to double check them. We don't already have a "Drill V"? If not then that sounds good.

I am sorry if I am not quick in checking but I am in the middle of tracking down an error for new Dieselpunk buildings. And I have to re-load the game adding one building at a time since with all of them it makes buildings T to Z disappear and CTD errors from hovering over the new buildings.

I already checked the code and they aren't promotions taht are connected to RI-exclusive mechanics or anything like that. I'll just go ahead and add them.

@ls612

What about Guided Missiles in C2C? I swear we had some promotion named or close to that.

Also make sure you convert it to the appropriate C2C unit classes. We have some they don't have and they have some we don't have. Or have similar ones under other names.

Sorry to interrupt, but what is the "RI" mod? :)

RI = Realism Invictus

Ok in C2C under Guided Weapons we have ...

- Heat Seeking (Basically good vs machines with exhaust)
- Improved Radar (Basically interception and better against aircraft)
- Precision Bombing (Basically better city bombing and vs other units for Bomber aircraft types)

EDIT: I can confirm there is no Drill V yet, just Drill IV.

Currently there is no way for guided missiles to get promotions in C2C (or RAND). They should get them from buildings because they are one use units which don't survive combat to learn from mistakes.

Some clarification for DH's excellent summary :)

I have some thoughts about the animal hunter and barbarian hunter promotions. I know that right now they don't work as intended if you have dynamic experience on. I think that they actually work pretty well together as they are right now - Here's why. First consider the following:

If the dynamic promotions worked as intended, then earlier on in the game, if you forget to give a troop a animal hunter upgrade (and to a lesser extent the barbarian hunter promotion), that troop would be stuck at very a low level relative to other trooops that have the promotion - in other words the animal/barbarian hunter promotions are too critical early in the game when you are mainly fighting barbarians and animals.

Now consider how those promotions work now. When dynamic experience is on, not having those promotions limits great general points but not experience. I think this is actually a very good thing. Great generals are a very nice boost, especially early in the game. I still pick those promotions a lot just because of that.

So my proposal is to have the animal/barbarian hunter promotions limit great general points, but not experience points, just like they do now with dynamic experience on.

As a side note, I wonder if the AI ever chooses those promotions. If not, that gives a significant advantage to the player.

Side note 2 - Just a reminder that I don't think that dynamic experience is working properly when a great general is attached to a troop. The +100% experience makes this worse. With both of those promotions you can attack an animal with 100% chance of victory, and frequently get 3.00 experience from the battle. That seems like way too much - I would expect something between 0.50 and 1.00 experience.

That will require SDK work as there is noting in the XML which would allow this.

Most people have been complaining that the AI is choosing these promotions too much. :) I changed it so that these promotions require the first woodsman or gurella promotion. I have not had any complaints since but I don't know if that is because the AI is never choosing these promotions or not.

Also I suspect that the AI is not taking into account the Outcome System bonuses when choosing a promotion. For example the extra percentages on capture of animals.
