C2C: Promotions

I'm updating the Promotion List right now and some could use a renaming. For example, we have "Transport Fighters" and then "Transport Fighters I" "Transport Fighters II" "Transport Fighters III". Same goes for the other recently added transport promotions
Some like Shock are Shock -> Shock II -> Shock III
It should be Shock I there. And some sound quite similar like
Suppression Fire
Suppressive Fire
...
Also, why were some "Aid" promotions added an others removed?
 
I just noticed another one like that. Poisoned Arrows you can only get from an event. But it is identical to Poison Tips in all other ways. It either needs to be changed to give a different set of bonuses from Poison Tips, or it can be removed and the event can give Poison Tips instead.

Apart from anything else, given the name 'Poisoned Arrows', it should only apply to Archers, not to the 7 combat classes that it does now.

Poison Tips are obtained though a building that you pay penalties for. it also has a wider range of unit that can have poisoned tips.

Poison Arrows on the other hand are event only and are only to archers. If you get both then good for you otherwise you either need to be lucky (from the event) or penalized (from the building).

Oh I see - you can have both on the same unit can you?

The pedia entry shows the same 7 combat classes for Poisoned Arrows as for Poison Tips. Copy and paste strikes again! I take your point that the event is the only way to get it, and only gives it to archers. Nevertheless the pedia could stand to be a lot clearer about that.

The pedia can only report what is in the XML. You want the pedia corrected then correct the XML for the Poison Tips promotion.

Aid promos were put in but no code to support them - not quite sure how we'll finally address this in the end.

The naming on the Transport promos is very intentional. Shock I OR Shock -> Shock II etc... is just a matter of different standards being applied, yes. But the scheme you show in my naming of, say, the Transport Fighters promotions is very important and has meaning. The first one, the '0' point if you will, is NOT a part of the promotion line. What it does is not only add a cargo space and reduce strength a little but it also gives the unit the ability to transport Fighters like a carrier. Without this ability you won't be able to open up the Transport Fighters I + which ARE part of a promotionline intrinsically linking themselves together.

The 0 level transport options that add the type of transport cannot overlap on the same unit. There was cause, in this, to not have them be a part of the promotionlines they lead the unit to have access to. Kinda tough to explain how it all works out... just know that it is supposed to be named that way.

Yes, they can have both. And I hate it. When I redo the events next cycle, this one is on my list.
Eventually that event will need to be set to NOT be possible (among many similar others like Wootz Steel etc...) when the Equipment option is on. I don't mind that Archery is given the ability to get the additional version by event only for the core. Kinda makes sense.
 
AH ok then with the Promotion lines.

I wanted to chance the event so that it gives a free Poisoncrafters Hut or something like this.
We can also make the Wootzsteel event give you the free building required for this promotion once equipment is implented.
 
BTW with the equipment promotions, could we move the poisoned arrows, (fixed) poisoned tips and bamboo armour to that category for now just so something shows up on the pedia page.

Poisoned Arrows needs fixing, as the XML/pedia have it available to 7 combat classes when it's only available to one. Poison Tips is right already, n'est-ce pas?

I put the comma in the wrong place then. :D It has been one of those days. It started of with me hitting the key one to the left of the one I wanted.
 
I had another idea about the poisoned arrows thingy:

The Promotion given away by the building could be the normal strong poison.

The Promotion for Archers via the event could increase the capturing chance thus it would only be a temporary paralysis. Of course, it does not have to be limited to Archers then.

That's a great idea for an event, but it doesn't have to replace this one.

If it has been decided that units should not get both Poison Tips and Poisoned Arrows (not saying it has), then the easiest solution is for the "Poisoned Arrows" event to give "Poison Tips" promotion, but only to Archers. (Poisoned Arrows promotion could then be renamed and reused for your new event).

Of course there is a myriad of other options for other decision paths.

I would only add that the "Poisoned Arrows" announcement message currently states that the "<civ name> now have the most lethal Archers in the world/whatever". Which is wrong if they've just got the same strength poison that everyone else got from their Poison Crafter.

They are not supposed to behave as equipment promos behave so they should not be set as equipment or it may cause some unexpected problems or effects.
 
They would be replaced. In the meantime, they're not setup to be functioning like equipment (which REQUIRE a promotionline for the first thing that could create trouble if we indicated those promos as equipment...)
 
So looking though PAEV today there were some interesting promotions that we do not currently have.

Allegiance
Unit doesn't defect to enemies.

Trained -> Battle Wise -> Seasoned -> Veteran -> Elite -> Legendary -> Hero
Each give a bunch of stats but more so this seemed to be some sort of tier upgrade system. Similar to the Combat promotions. The icons were also Hero Green. From what it looks like is if a unit promotes enough along the path they can unlock warlord promotions and basically become their own hero.

Elephants Alley
A special promotion that gives +25% vs Elephants but -25% for City Attack and -25% City Defense. I am guessing some sort of event or something to give this since it seems to not be normally obtained.

There are a lot more of they specialized promotions. See the mod for them.

Furor I-III
This seems to give a boost to stregth and 1 strike but also increase the chance the unit suicides itself.

Jungle Fighter I-V
Similar to Woodsman but specializes in Jungle Attack and Defense.

Overrun I-III
A Mounted unit promotion made to be better vs Melee Units. Sounds kinda cool.

Parrying Axes/Spears?Swords I-III
Promotions to specialize in countering specific groups. I could see this being useful as a general concept. Such as a Unit specializing in Countering specific weapons. Sort of like D&D weapons focus feat. Or a Ranger's favored enemy.

Please note that some promotions like Elephants alley are formations (orange background in pae)
Formations are temporary promotions you can use them in one turn and change in another.
