C2C - Tech Quote Thread

To me it breaks the immersion a bit. If this were a comedy or a parody, it would be fine, but having quotes from there is just as bad (to me) as having ones from Spaceballs. I suppose it's not a big deal.

I'll check Drugtrade again when my game gets that far along.

Oh, yes, I do view them there from time to time. But as I'm recording the ones without audio, I've found that the best way to determine that is to hear (or rather, not hear) them in game. It also breaks the monotony of just writing things down endlessly.

what is the status on the quotes search? is anyone doing it anymore? if not i could search them, i did this once for the AND mod

Feel free to look for unique quotes for any of the ones listed as being duplicates. Do try to find ones relating to what the Tech actually does, and not (for example) a modern viewpoint decrying it. For that matter, if you could find a new quote for "Skinning", I'd appreciate it, as the current one might be appropriate for a modern tech where furs start losing popularity, but (in my opinion anyway) it has nothing to do with what that specific tech actually does in it's era. I've been meaning to look for one myself, but keep getting ... distracted. I'd be more than happy to record a new quote for that one, and perhaps a few of the other early ones as well. Thanks.

So here is the tech quotes, i am pretty sure i found all the duplicate ones, if anyone would want to double check, it will be great.

As for Skinning, this one is the best i could find, the rest where anti-skinning modern quotes about animal rights etc., the hardest was the futuristic techs, it took so long because of those.

If i missed anything, or if you need quotes for other tech you would want to add in future updates, let me know, i'll be glad to do the work.

Wow, that's a lot of quotes. Haven't looked at most of them yet, but the one for skinning you have is decent. Not really directly related, but better than the current one. Looks good to me, anyone else have an opinion on it?

i missed the shelter building tech, so here it is:

“I have now got a bombproof shelter into which I retire when I sniff the coming portrait or its trajectory.” - John Singer Sargent

or

“Do not call the forest that shelters you a jungle” -

African Proverb

The second, because it fits better with the era

cdman you're doing great work so don't let me discourage you. Still, I don't think either of those quotes really relates to shelter building by Homo Sapiens. A simple quote from an information source like an encyclopedia would be better imho. This feels like the easiest way to get a quote that's really appropriate.

It doesn't seem to be that easy admittedly - the best I've come up with is this:

"It has been theorized that ... families lived in small settlements made up of moss-covered huts during the winter..." (attributed to) John Pfeiffer, Smithsonian Magazine, Oct 1986 (found at factsanddetails.com)

I also find that hominids were building shelters long before 50,000BC, so I'm not sure what 'innovation' the tech relates to...

What was wrong with the quote we have now?

"A home is not a mere transient shelter; its essence lies in the personalities of the people who live in it." - H.L. Mencken

Oh, nothing - I was just commenting on the suggestions made - didn't realize it was one that already had a quote.

That's a quote about "home" and has an implied modern setting - it's really not about "shelter", certainly not prehistoric shelters or shelter-building.

There is nothing really 'wrong' with the existing quote except that it's a duplicate of the quote on another Tech. I think. Part of the point is to get unique quotes for each and every Tech. I do agree that the quote should be relevant to the Tech in question where possible, but I do realize that it's not always feasible.

That said, a "shelter" can become a home if the people live there long enough and feel a certain way about it. So I suppose the existing quote isn't really that bad.

Well the first one that cdman1990 seemed more "modern" than that one. Also The 2nd one was less about shelters and more about "to shelter" than "a shelter".

I quite agree, which is why I made my suggestion. And if you don't like my suggestion (feel free but so far there's been no feedback on it either way:scan:), I also suggested that an encyclopedia-style entry on the subject would probably yield something appropriate. (Only not Wikipedia, as it doesn't seem to help much...)

didn't know there was already a quote, must have added it by mistake, when i did the list of missing/doubled quotes it was late and shelter building appeared on my list.
anyways any news on the next update?

I don't think anyone has taken ownership of this so it does not get done. Either that or is gets confused with the recording of the tech quote.
