I have been a big fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender and now the Legend of Korra. While this is a fantasy setting I was thinking it might be interesting to have a "Nanobender Dojo" in the future where people could use a brain-machine interface to control nano swarms like they do with the elements in the cartoon.

This would be a technological way to do "elemental bending". I could see them not only used for a cloud like swarm but they could be used with say electricity to send a "shock swarm" or other such applications.

Note that the density of the nano swarm could make it appear like other elements such as the famous "gray goo" could appear like moving water (or at least liquid) and an earth-like form could literally shape the terrain to however you wanted.

I have some questions ...

1. What's the difference between the existing Holographics tech and your Holograms tech?

2. What's the difference between the existing Imaginary Physics and Futurisma Physics?

3, Animamaterials while cool I think the application is a bit backwards in how retro the units seem. Simialr units could be used with a graphics makeover to make them look futuristic rather than Avatar-ish.

Also we may want to have TB review the techs before we add more.

4D as in what? Time? Or as trans-dimensional? Note that 4D trans dimensional comes WAY later on the tree.

We should wait before adding later Techs until we add a substantial amount of buildings to existing future techs.

There are two technologies that are era changers, that is Online Community/Digitization and Artificial Intellegence/Cybernetics. Those techs are society disruptors and change society forever.

There are many Techs we could put in the game after Artificial Intellegence/Cybernetics but that requires a discussion of what is possible to add in the game, and the general "lore" of Caveman 2 Cosmos.


Technically Transhuman Era in my opinion should be divided into two Eras; Digital and Cyber. Cyber starts with Artificial Intellegence/ Cybernetics. We can keep Galactic as one. Again These are Caveman 2 Cosmos lore discussions, and will take time.

There are also Alternative Timelines we could do:
dystopia
Utopia
Nanopunk (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanopunk)

The future down the Future Era the more imaginative we can be, so that requires discussion.

What I'd like to see is answers to these questions (when proposing a tech):

1) What exactly is the tech? What does it mean? Define the discovery.

2) How does it's prerequisites make sense? What about them becomes the key to unlocking this discovery?

3) What is it leading to? We're inserting a tech wherever we work on the tech tree so then the question of 'why is this tech critical to unlocking the next ones that stem from it?' should be addressed.

4) What would this tech add to a civilization? Buildings, units, promotions, civics? Other enhancements? Even just some suggestions so there can be some discussion on those suggestions and further brainstorming would be good.

5) What might it obsolete and why?

6) What needs would inspire the civilization to develop the tech? This is asking about the needs of the citizens and the needs of the nation which are two differing things.


Try to answer those and I think it might make new tech developments make more rational sense in a very explicit manner to any who would seek to review. I find most of the time I can infer what Azure is intending and I usually think its pretty cool. But if those questions were answered with each proposal, I have a feeling others who may not so easily read into the purpose of the tech and its cause for inclusion might have their concerns laid to rest before they even become unsettled.

It would also ask for the kind of thorough thought and delivery that would help to keep MrAzure's powerful source of creative inspiration narrowed down to an applicable degree of focus.


EDIT: Just wanted to mention something I'd thought the other day when reading through here... those medically advanced Organ implants sound like an awesome set of equipments. I'd love to have some serious cybernetic implant equipment concepts to work with for that era eventually. I think that'd just be pretty cool.

Also: intending to make EMP weaponry have a powerful effect on tech but minimal at best against personnel, though if said personnel were highly cybernetically enhanced, they too would become more and more susceptible to EMP weaponry. Something to give some consideration to for the Combat Mod of the future...

1. Agree , one Technology at a time is best for design and planning, since members are also working on other projects. I can add a summary of what it is, buildngs, and applications, following your guidelines.

2. Thanks for the Technology template. This will help explain things better and help alot with collaboration.

3. With cybernetics we can be as Abstract or specific as possible. We could have Cybernetic Lungs that allow land units to travel in water since they can breathe underwater. Maybe we can have magnetic telekinesis that moves metal units.

4. When I added EMP stuff originally it would have attack bonuses against androids and cyborgs. The counter would have benn reprogrammable or crystal based electronics. Plenty to add to combat mod.

I am very familiar with Cybernetics and Battletech /Mechas. Usually the are very module based but we can classes like Sniper, Assault, Heavy Defense, Bombard, Medic, Scout, Command, etc. If possible we could have modules.

I Remember Empire Earth's future eras.
 
1) What is the maximum Output for :science: at the moment? I think I reached it. For no reason, I only have 19 :science: in my city (OCC).

2) There are several buildings that need to be adjusted / changed in the late Modern /early TH era. For example the "old" ones like Clone Lab. They don't get buildings from techs. I recommend that after we finished adding stuff to the TH era we should rebalance and adjust all eras. At least the buildings.

3) I think the Replicators comes WAY too early. They are one of the techs that advances to the TH era. Like Flash Memory.

4) The Space Stuff is definetly missing. Hydro, I think you mentioned a primitive way of multi map earlier? Just having a map several viewpoints on it. I think the problem was/is that the Mapgenerator can't handle it. If I'd make a scenario, you COULD start to add space stuff like moon labs etc. Do you think this is usefull or should we hold it up completely?

5) Please post some more building suggestions until tomorrow 7 AM UTC. I have to spend a loooong time in the train tomorrow and need something to do ;)

3. Hmm where should it be moved to? Note this is a leftover from RoM/AND so its probably not in the right spot.

4. This is a complex question but I will try to answer it.

a. Multi-Maps are in llimbo I think. I think they can be done, but I think the people who can do it have either been busy or burnt out on doing it.

b. Compound Maps were a single map makes many types of terrains on one map and are separated by void or space tiles. These maps have been done in the Future Mod and have to be toroidal maps. All maps are turned 90 degrees so the top and bottom of the maps wrap around and then each tile map is parallel to each other with north an south poles to each other. While this is great in that it gets all maps into one map it totally messes up things that depend upon map locations such as animal spawns and how far north or to the equator a building is.

However if multi-maps eventually end up being impossible then the compound maps will have to do.
