@Zinc, Yes. Getting Conquests gives you all of PtW: the civs, units, wonders, etc...

So, does this mean that C3C pretty much obsoletes PTW itself?

Also:

I just got C3 Conquests. Does anyone know if I need to apply the vanilla civ or PTW patches?

daufoi

Any answer?
Also,
In the same vein, when one is installing C3C, delete (= uninstall) PTW and earlier patches, and install over Civ3, or delete ALL, and do a clean reinstall of Civ3 and then JUST C3C? Or just install over PTW?

IF so can you still play the stuff that came on the PTW disc?

THanks!! for any light that anyone can shed on this.

I installed C3C. The installation does not overwrite vanilla civ and installed both PTW and C3C. So, I guess you can play all three if you wanted to. Also, I ended up applying the patches for the vanilla civ and PTW.

Don't know if that's the way to go but worked for me.

Yes C3C is in addition to C3 and PTW. Once installed you can play any one.

So, if you install Civ3 original, and then JUST C3C, does it automatically pull in all the earlier patches- don't have to do anything else to have all the bug fixes applied?

Thanks to all that help!

Have any of you guys here ever try to add a unit to a random map but when you play the map the game crashes.I think that Firaxis changed the unit creation thing again, can somebody help me?

My Civ3 original is v1.07. Sure I patched it from time to time, so last version was 1.29.
Then I just installed C3C over it, w/o any de/re-installation of anything.
Works fine.:)

So in your case, patch Civ3 to 1.29 (if you haven't patched it before), then install C3C.

edit: some guy reported 'missing file' probs if civ3 is not patched (to 1.29?), but I just noticed you're subscribed to that respective thread anyways...

@vbraun- Thanks for the info!

@Grille- Thanks also. Actually it was that other post about 'missing files' that had me panicing ... I HAD patched up to but not including PTW, and wasn't sure if I needed to istall PTW and THEN C3C, but it sounds like I will NOT need to do so, just install C3C.

Thank you all again for your kind help.

I noticed under the Atari foulder in the program files menu thing (start menu) that PTW is also in there. It seams as if you can play PTW with out buying PTW and just buying C3C and C3.

Can anyone conform this?

Anyone that did not buy PTW check your atari foulder and see if PTW is there.

You're absolutely right, vbraun.:)

I didn't have PTW and installed C3C over vanilla. My folder isn't named Atari, but a filled PTW folder sits there now somewhere.

Pssst, the fact that C3C includes PTW is top secret...:mischief:

How would the shops avoid the remaining PTW copies being shelf-warmers?
j/k

This is rather well known for ages...:D;)

Actually, I have had PTW for a while, and installed C3C over it. Conquests works fine. However, when I tried to load PTW to play another game that has been going in PTW, it needed my PTW CD, and would not load with the Conquests CD. I would be interested to see if a plain Civ3 install, followed with Conquests, will allow you to run PTW with the Conquests CD, but it looks like mine won't. (Which is frustrating, as I wanted to try MP with my son, we have two networked computers, I thought it would be convenient to have the PTW CD for one and the C3C CD for the other one).

Well I just gave that a try as I installed conquests over the plain vanilla civ3. In my case the conquest's CD was all that was needed for me to play PTW.

So it would appear to be that if you installed PTW from the PTW CD then you need the PTW CD to play PTW. But if you installed it from the Conquest's CD, then you need to use the conquest's CD to play PTW. Which does make sense.

No luck I try and launch the PTW.exe and it asks for the PTW CD and i have the Conquest cd in there. it dosent work!!!!!

Where are all the new luxuries they promised ? I can't find Exotic birds for example. I just tried the basic game in C3C, not the scenario.

Wow!

That's enough said right there. Battling against 18 different AI's, plus a reall cool unit tree (units varying from 1/1 and 2/1 moving up to all sorts of combos, 4/7 or 5/4/3 or 7/7/2.

I was afraid that it would be all combat and no infrastruture, but in fact, expansion is key, or you'll never get a large enough army to take out a rival civ.

I haven't played any of the others yet, but I'm really, really impressed with the Shogun.

I won this scenario by taking out one other civ early on, and then fighting another for some space later, but then I just dumped all my resources into powering up my research, got the War Council, and then just gifted off all my techs to every other civ a turn before holding elections

I have just vanilla [civ3] and loaded C3C. I couldn't find an option for playing PTW games. Is it available with C3C or are we going to have to go out and buy PTW to play those? If it is available could someone provide some direction?

Edit - Please disregard. There is a folder called Civ3PTW and it's in there. I'm a dope

Does the AI still utilize "Stacks of Death" (SODs)

For new players, this refers to the tendency of the AI to accumulate large numbers of units. When at war, the AI will wander through your territory with stacks of sometimes 50 to 100+ units. Often, when these are stacks of "defensive," like infantrymen, or obsolete units the AI will not attack even though with numerical superority it could easily win.

thanks

Last night while playing, I decided to attack the Babylonians (They were just having a major attitude problem and I just didn't like them too much). So, I rolled in a few tanks and some infantry units and took over a bordering city. The Babylonians had a good railroad system in place. Over the next 3 minutes or so, I watch unit after unit after unit pile up next to town while my tank fired at each one as they went by. There were well over 100 units stacked up when it was finally my turn. Most of them spear units or the Crusader units they had. There were a few TOW units and a few regular infantry units in the stack, but most were older units. They took their city back and a few of mine before I had the chance to beg for peace.
