C3C PBEM : Rise of Rome - scenario-based PBEM

All I can say for the battles this turn was...
1.) Thank goodness for the "no-animate battles" option!
2.) The paymasters and accountants of both the Roman and Carthaginian empires must be immensely relieved. The defense budget of each nation just got seriously reduced by unit losses. :p

@ironduck- What is your experience with switching gov'ts as Carthage? :scan: If you can tell now :crazyeye: .

Could you guys give a guess of the damages or the results?

I guess those neighbours got all too cranky, launching a major invasion after securing a beach head.. and also had to abandon New Rome (is there going to be a New New Rome?) since my remaining cavalry were all at 1 hp, so no use fighting and no time to escape :(

dgfred - I only switched once (to Republic) - it worked well.

I've lost about 50 cavalry, 10 Numidians, and 15 fire catapults in the past couple of turns.. The Romans haven't lost that many lately, but earlier in the game his stacks got dented quite a bit :D

I've been playing lately as Carthage and in my current game I switched to
Monarchy and got a 9 Turn anarchy. Which blew!

Yeah, I had a very long anarchy as well which was why I just changed gov. once.. it's no good being in anarchy when the Romans are piling up stacks on your doorstep ;) But it's a big improvement from Oligarchy to Republic.

*Sniff* The destroyed heartland of Rome. There were elephant droppings everywhere! Please note that the original Ceasar Augusta is still alive (barely survived!) with his now badly outdated Legion I units. (Not bad for a 300 year old guy!)

@and about Anarchy...It is bad enough in solo play. But it is exscruciating during PBEM play if you draw an 7+ turn anarchy and the game only comes around every day or 2...that's almost 2 weeks of no progress!

Great shots Rj :goodjob: . On that anarchy I have to admit the first time I
played this one, I got the 9t anarchy  and immediately quit  &
started over :mischief: . Excellent game by the way

Oh, that darn Caesar Augusta, I almost had him - both now and 300 years ago! The first time he was instrumental in taking over Sicily, this time he only killed a single cavalry ;)

Getting my galleys back home was every bit as much a gauntlet as I thought it would be.. probably wasn't too smart about it, alas.

Oh.. and the one good thing I note about the Roman foothold is that they're building a temple and not just getting it for free! ;) Ahem.. Roman wonders? Look in the history books my friends! :D

Yep. The loss of the Temple of Artemis and the Bacchanalia - the two best wonders in this scenario I think - profoundly impacted the Roman economy. I was pulling down 600+ gpt for rushing units before, but now I'm down to 250+ gpt due to temple maintenance and happiness tax.

You didn't have to rebuild temples in all the towns? I thought maybe the temples would disappear, only keeping the accumulated culture..

dgfred - how could you quit 'as soon as you got the 9t anarchy'? You can't know it's 9 turns until you've played through the anarchy, can you? Either way, anarchy is longer in C3C and also increases with empire size, so might as well get used to it.. definitely keeps one from changing it on a whim unless the civ is religious.

Hmmm... Macedon is making about 900-1000gpt cash. Without any happiness wonders. And thinking would 400HC be enough to kill the Persians. probably not... :)

I have the game but will play later today.

@ ironduck- I was just playtesting the scenario with each civ :mischief: ,
and had made 'many' big mistakes already with Carthage  (over-
rushing, starvation, battle errors, etc....) So I just started over. The
Game said 9t anarchy- I took its word for it :crazyeye: . Love this
scenario by the way  .

Just a lurker's $.02 here:
Temples built before ToA remain during the wonder, but are maintenance-free as long as it is in effect. Once it becomes obsolete (or becomes rubble... ) those pre-existing temples remain, but now cost maintenance again. The 'free' temples that were never really built do disappear, but as you mentioned, the culture remains.

As for Anarchy, if you go to the F1 screen during the anarchy, and watch your Domestic Advisor scroll through her ramblings ;) she will eventuall say something about "it's touch and go, but we should have things under control in # turns." That's how much longer the anarchy will last. I just found this out myself a few months ago  , so don't feel bad, it's not documented that I know of.

Turn sent to Persia.

Regarding touch and go, I'm currently having a 9-turn anarchy as Carthage in another RoR PBEM at CDZ. But Roma is already captured and Roman Empire is reduced to 4 cities. So, there should be enough War Elephants accumulated there to deal with the remnant. Still, nothing built for 9 turns... at least boring though indeed just frustrating.

Aye, I remember the 'touch and go' message now.. nice to be able to check.

Akots should have played Carthage in this game apparently - sounds like he is better at kicking Roman ass than I am ;)

Several of my cities starved down to 1 pop   , unacceptable!!

that's a bit extreme.. shouldn't lose more than 1 pop per city max..

where's the game anyway?

My last record was the 185 turn sent to Akots late Saturday. I will send it again since I can't seem to find his GPS, although I am pretty sure he sent it.
