What the??????????????????

Well, it is a scenario in which you play through Arthurian Britain. It is rather fun, and it is for Civ3 Conquests (but Civ3Complete should play it, too).

Unless you were referring the the last few posts, in which it is just a load os spam, really. :p

Spam?!! More Spam!!!!
Spam, spam, spam, spam.

You must seriously be craving that stuff. ;)

So any news on the update?

Do thou needeth any help(eth)?

:D

I really have nothing to do right now.

So, where is Londinium?

Londinium is the greatest city in britain in that time. A leader to Londinium is Ambrósius Aurelialus. He govern this city and vilages for many times.

The cities of the Romans are "Rome"??? "Veii"??? if you need city names, I have!
And i have a lot of new civs names:

In the nort, if you look the map of "Middle Ages" you will found Orkney it's a city, but isn't a Viking city, it's a breton city diferent whit the others in the south, a leader to it is Lot. If you want to more details you can read The Mists of Avalon, a part it's true, that you can use. Other part can be discarted

Actually, Londinium was the Roman name and it could be argued that the city went into enough of a decline after the Roman withdrawal as to take it out of the great city status. Also, Orkney wasn't a city, it's a group of islands to the north of Scotland.

I have read The Mists Of Avalon. A very good book, even if it is a propaganda piece for feminist ideology. However, the focus of CAMELOT! is not to stick to one particular telling of the Arthurian legends, nor to make sure that all the various tellings are equally represented. Rather, it is a summation of my response to the Arthurian legends. So, there is much that many could say has been left out, or should be different. And they might very well be able to offer a convincing argument. But, Civ is somewhat limited in it's scope & magnitude, and CAMELOT! is the product of my imagination, limited as it may be.

Thank you for your input. And thank you very much for making your first post in the CAMELOT! thread.

Maybe you could add a resource called "Roman Ruin", much like Plotinus did in the Rood and the Dragon?

Well, I must admit, I've sort of put aside finishing the update. I became distracted doing other things, working on other scenarios (none of which I've completed either), and then getting hung up playing the fantabulous Medieval European Mod, and now the Historia Canada scenario.

However, seeing that there is at least one expressing an interest in an update, perhaps I will take it up again. Let me ask you, what would you like to see different? How could CAMELOT! be improved?

(BTW: thank you for rescuing the thread from it's languishment and putting it back on Page 1! [does 6 months & 6 days count as a bump?])

Well, as I posted last year in this thread, I think that Merlin's Hall needed to be made a less powerful wonder...by having it expire at some point probably rather than last for the entire rest of the game.

I had little other problem or complaint with the scenario, except the crash that would occur on my Mac trying to pull up diplomacy with the Eoganachts. So, here's the deal. I have been getting a masters and was playing Civ much too much, thanks in no little part to my great fondness for Camelot! I sold my C3C, but have now graduated and just purchased it again and can't wait to dive into Camelot! again. I was very grateful when you made the random map version of the biq, which gives the game even more mileage for me by far. I hope you will offer one of those for the upgrade too.

I'll have the game in a couple days and will play Camelot! again. There has been a patch for the Mac C3C which should have fixed those path bugs like the one that caused my game to crash. I'll let you know any other thoughts or ideas for improvements if or as they occur.

Sounds like I need to check out the Medieval and Canadian scenarios. And you say you have been tinkering with other scenarios? Like what?

Meanwhile, who else still loves this scenario and has any thoughts or encouragement?

As promised, here is some of my feeback, advice, requests for a revamped Camelot!, having played a number of games (on random map) recently.

...

As noted, Merlin's Hall should go obsolete before long. It's way too powerful otherwise.

Palisades are made obsolete by Construction, but Walls can only be built where a Palisade has first been built, which means you cannot even build walls after Construction if you don't happen to have a Palisade already in the city.

Aqueducts aren't needed. Cities grow indefinitely without them.

Pollution should be turned off. It's highly annoying and quite illogical in this context.

Money and production become insane by late game, most things taking one or two turns to build. There are perhaps a few too many superfluous buildings adding happiness and science in the late game long after they are needed.

Are Stables' and Marketplaces' effects cumulative or redundant? I believe they are redundant...you can have one or the other, but having both is unneccessary. This leads to wasteful building of both in a city. I'd change them in some fashion to make them unique and non-redundant.

I can't tell you how much I love and employ Grande Trebuchets. They are a great weapon of war in general, and can save your tail if you don't have access to horses for knights. They are kind of overpowered, but I'd hate to lose them. The AI does not consider them a potential offensive weapon, so does not put them to good use like you can offensively.

I STILL have not been able to win this game on the Grail Quest. I'm still not sure what I'm trying to do except explore everywhere with Great Knights and hope something becomes apparent somehow. Someone always accidentally happens upon the quest fulfillment before I can. Very frustrating. Granted, I am playing a random map now, and it's probably better implemented when controlled on the Britain map.

Oh, I fixed the Eoganacht-related crash I mentioned. I play on a Mac. Apparently the accent over the e in Eoganacht did not render properly in my keyboard mapping and in the Pedialicons.txt file, I did a find replace, to properly render them again, and voila, no more crashes during Eoganacht diplomacy.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on these suggestions. I expect some have already been mentioned, planned, or implemented, however far along the revision has come. I'd encourage you to finish it up, and please be sure to include a random biq with it again, if you don't mind.

Cheers.

Here's a listing of all the changes that have been made so far for the version 2. Many of these are minor, but I think most of your suggestions have been addressed. I made these changes many months ago and then sort of got away from CAMELOT! doing other things. It's been hard to get back into it, but I have played a couple games recently just to see if it's ok to release. I think it's close, but I'll make a few more changes.

As far as not being able to find the Grail, well there's a trick to it. The idea is to..., well, maybe that should stay secret. I'll pm you.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Hi there! I just played it through on monarch and want to give some feedback:

1) This hurried production makes the game really fast, especially at the beginning. I like it :goodjob:
2) After a while, i could research at full productivity (4 turns per tech) while making a plus of 100 up to 800 gold per turn!
3) I could build all wonders myself (except 2 or 3) but this one is due to the low difficulty level
4) Everytime i build the pendragon, the game crashes :( without even giving an error. It just crashes.
5) When i build an embassy with some tribes, the game crashes with a eroor message about something, including Eogabracht or whatever this tribe is called.

Are you playing with the custom music?
Sometimes the music files don't come through the download properly, they become corrupted. When there's a problem with music, the Civilization will crash straight to the desktop without any kind of error message.
But having said that, I am pretty sure that it's not a music problem, because building wonders or establishing embasies do not have any custom music with them.
So, I'm not sure what the problem might be. Especially as this has not been reported before, and I have never experienced it. To compound my cluelessness, I haven't actually played CAMELOT! for a long time. I've been taken up with playing MEM and with constructing a CAMELOT! version 2.
I'll run through a game and see if I can come up with anything.

Did you find the Holy Grail?

well, no, because I can't build the pendragon and i'm quite sure that if i don't build it someone else will and then make an election and i will lose. That's because of my crappy diplomatic skills ^^, i'm more a conqueror and punisher of the unworthy

anyway heres my sav data maybe you find the problem (after you press next turn and the ai moves, the game crashes)
