Canada

Indeed. Peaceful country. Lovely.

(compared to my former... let's call it country, where civil war is about to break loose...).

Well, compared to anything, in fact... lovely.

LoL! We also honour treaties and trade agreements... :mischief: I am guessing the americans on here haven't even heard that the USA is defiying its trade agreements with us and are not willing to listen to the organizations it helped to found... not something the US Media would let them know about.

well, thank goodness you are here to inform the ignorant masses!

What is the point of this thread?
It seems to me that all you are trying to do is start a fight with Canadians. Take the argument to a "What civ will never be in Civ 4" thread

Read all about it. My guess is that you don't understand that the current leadership doesn't listen to anyone not from Texas.

What are you talking about? Yep all we hear about is how the people of Iraq welcome our troops and how amazingly coordinated the federal governments response to Katrina was. Certainly with this state controlled media, its no wonder the presidents approval rating is an outstanding 39%.

 You're Welcome? :p

Edit - to say something related: Canada SHOULD NOT be a civ in civlization... imho - we are a spinoff of the british empire and so is the USA... I think civ should allow a group of cities to form splinter civs :) don't know how this could be done in game tho... random chance when an empire gets to be a certain size?

Ooh! A border dispute!

Let me suggest where this thread is going.

1. Canadians say something self-righteous about the United States.
2. Americans say something about Canada being populated by out-of-touch liberals and socialists.
3. This somehow leads to an argument about the burning of the White House and the destuction of York, culminating in a heated exchange about who won the War of 1812.
4. Tensions ease.
5. Canadians say something about still kicking backside in hockey.
6. Americans say something about still being able to kick backside, period.
7. Canadians and Americans have a jaunty laugh about the whole thing.
8. [Canadians secretly grumble about how ignorant Americans are].
9. [Americans secretly grumble about how self-righteous Canadians are].

It's too much fun to skip.

Hey The US won the warr of 1812 - most of which , I believe was fought in 1814, by the time honored way. WE Cheated and took New Orleans some months over peace had been declared. Thats an attitude I can admire - not letting peace interfere with Victory in Civ3 it figured heavily in my strategy.

Um, what's a prat?

Good question. I've been in Australia too long.

Answer: Buttocks. Buttocks, I say!

Hilarious, though, because the question one would expect (but for my poor choice of diction) is, "Who's Don Cherry?"

I love it. It's so rare to find a self-deprecating sense of humour akin to my own... LOL. Top marks, elderotter. You remind me of a very close friend of mine.

If you can call the dismal failure to take Canada despite larger numbers and despite the fact that Britain was too busy dealing with Napoleon to do anything a victory

The only US victory was managing to avoid getting thumped out of existence in the counter attack.

PS I can't believe I walked into this sterotypical American/Canadian debate but damn it I just couldn't resist.

I'd concede that the war of 1812 was a stalemate at best.. the USA was young, and paranoid about the British to the north.. but they did win the overall conflict, as they still exist..

perhaps someday we'll see how Canada fairs in a war after it gains independence :p

OMFG!!!! Noway! Canuk is like haxx0r! USA pwnd ur @$$ like so bad n 1812!!!!

(Parody)

This link is now a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I think they timewarped Arnie to 1812 and he won the war while looking for john conner... so they call it a "draw" :mischief:

I call it a stalemate (as do most historians, I might add) because of the objectives of the war.. the USA did not want to conquer Canada for giggles, they wanted the British out of North America to preserve themselves

They did fail in expelling the British, as they are still there to this day, but self preservation was achieved.. of course changing ones mind about an objective hardly makes it a draw to begin with.. so I can see the counter-point as well

civ·i·li·za·tion

1. An advanced state of intellectual, cultural, and material development in human society, marked by progress in the arts and sciences, the extensive use of record-keeping, including writing, and the appearance of complex political and social institutions.
2. The type of culture and society developed by a particular nation or region or in a particular epoch: Mayan civilization; the civilization of ancient Rome.

As much as Canada deserves to be there they arent allowed. The name of the game is Civilization, and well.. Canada hasnt been around long enough, or generated old enough cluture. Well this is my veiw but argue all you like.
Remember thats where mods come in.
