can't trade resources, why??

I have looked for an answer to this, both in these forums and in the manual but am stumped.

I am on a continent with 4 AI opponents - India, Eqypt, Germany and Aztec. I am far enough along in the game to have alphabet.
I have friendly relations with all but Aztec
I have roads connected to AI cities, EXCEPT Aztec

yet I can not get see any indication of being able to trade resources with anyone but Aztec. the f4 screen will show the tech advances that all 5 of us have and which ones they would be willing to trade. all of my resources are listed at the top of the resource tab under f4 but only the Aztec show any resources.

what am I missing here. I am pretty sure that I have resources that they would want and it looks like they should have some excess resources I could use. why is nothing showing up as being available??

I do not see any tech being needed, like alphabet for tech, to open up resource trading

AI may have asked to others AI not to trade with you.
Otherwise: Perhaps they have already traded the ressources you own between them.
AI rarely trade their ressources if they are at (1) too .

you need a river, road, harbor, airport link to trade ressources. I think it is is surely the reason.
You don't need this if you trade technologies.

Soudns liek you are missing a trade route to them Its indicated by a 3 arrow traingle near the civ name by their score. It means you have a trade route to that civ and can trade resources.

checked that, and all 4 civs have the trade triangle by their names

is there any way to see what they are trading each other?? I know I have some same items that one of the other civs should want in trade for resources that I can see they have multiples of. but possibly one of the other civs has already made that trade so they both have everything I have.
