Inspired by the Copenhagenthread...

Which one is it in your opinion. The one you're most familiar with, view as biggest or some other reason.

I would say Oslo, because it is the capital of Norway, and geographically it would be quite fitting.

Amsterdam !!!!!!

Pancakes need more be said?

I don't really see any of those as capital material.

Perhaps Roskilde in Denmark for its music festival.

Going with Oslo, because I've always been partial to Norway.

My Civ2 advisers say that Trondheim is the capital of the Scandinavians.

Helsinki and Reykjavik are both cooler, but I think I'll go with Stockholm

edit: How about Nuuk!

Reykjavik, of course. Which place has a cooler name than that? Except maybe Petropavlosk-Kamtchatsky.

Some Sami village in N. Finland.

Well, if it's the Great Nordic Union reborn, maybe on the Island of Åland, right between Finland and Sweden (and both with historical claims on it), for a small but efficient administrative capital?

We could turn it into this federal area of the Union, and the respective great cities could go on to take care of the various national institutions, and compete between each other for being biggest, or coolest, or whatever.:)

If it's just the Scandinavian countries, why not Gothenburg? It's never been a capital. It was founded in the 17th c. on Swedish initiative, but with Dutch capital and know-how. It's a big port city historically always oriented towards the British Isles, operating on private enterprise and capitalist altruistic sponsorship of public institutions — very much unlike the existing captials of the Nordic welfare countries. It's also roughly equidistant between Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen (actually furthest to Stockholm iirc).

It's even big enough (just shy of half a million as it is) to be able to accomodate the influx of govt. and admin. people flowing into it, providing them with housing, entertainment etc. It really is a nice city to boot!:goodjob:

I always saw Gothenburg as the potential Scandinavian capital too.

Stockholm! In the middle, its big, bad and swedish!

No really everyone saying Oslo being the geographical one does not think of Finland in my opinion. Its to far west, Sure Oslo may have easier to trade through the water, but if the question would be about that i think Gothenburg would take the price.

A lot of people don't consider Finland to be a part of Scandinavia.

Well this thread has helsinki in it so I should say that in this voting it would be in scandinavia. Otherwise this will all turn into a argument about it no?

Technically it is, although what you say is true. I always fail to remember what the actual members of Scandinavia are, but mostly Sweden, Denmark and Norway are meant, when people refer to Scandinavia.

And what about Iceland ...
