They had no leader, and there was no point in trying to break into Jerusalem with no great tactician to lead them. Most of the German knights only went because of Barbarossa anyway.
How would one do the map for a Europe/mideast NES, though, would it be a modification of something like Stormbringer's map for his 1815 NES, with 1150-ish boundaries? If we get that far, how would we include the Mongols?

you just get euratlas.com maps for 1100, take whatever chinese dynasty there is, then google all of the nations of the time, and then peace it together on a map.
