Casey Anthony found Not Guilty

I think it's kind of silly comparing this to the Duke Lacrosse case. Casey is about as innocent of murder as O.J. Simpson.
I wasn't comparing this to the Duke Lacrosse case, much less the OJ Simpson murder trial. I was merely pointing out that this particular pundit has been guilty of jumping to similar conclusions in the past.

Anyone willing to take this bet?

$20 bucks says Casey Anthony does porn within a year.

if true,

$20 more bucks that she goes on Entertainment Tonight to justify it along the following lines, "No one will hire me :( :( :("

I heard that a book deal is already in the works, and there's talk of who will play Casey Anthony in the (direct to video, I'll wager) movie.

Going by looks alone I'd root for Sarah Silverman to play Casey but seriously, that would be pretty weird.

I would be surprised if a publisher would want to touch her. That's risking a pretty big boycott.

Wait, she was convicted of felonies, no? She can't profit from that. Son of Sam Laws. haha!

Nope. she wasn't convicted of any felonies. In fact that she is spending any time in jail now is pretty much BS.

And on that note, can JR or someone here explain this whole BS with maxing out one the 4 charges? And the State trying to sue her for court cost? Those 4 counts of lying to police all happen on the same day. http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/07/07/florida.casey.anthony.next/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

I'm going to guess this is WAY out side the norm.

In a normal case, the 4 misdeamors would be served concurrently, not consecutively and perhaps wouldn't be maxed out. From a practical standpoint, I think it iis for Casey Anthony's own good and safety. The more days that go by, the more the frenzy will die down and the less likely that someone will try something stupid once Casey Anthony is released. I would bet good money that she is released a bit earlier than whatever date ends up officially scheduled so that they can get her out of there without some nutcase ready and waiting.

As to the motion for costs, that is fairly standard procedure, though at the hearing, I am sure the defense will try to mitigate down to what she was actually found guilty of, not the entire cost of the trial. In my juridiction, even indigent defendants represented by public defenders get hit with attorney cost reimbursement which they are expected to pay off prior to their probation or parole period ending.

I had no idea. This is really sick. Not only do they typically get much worse legal representation than affluent defendants, they have to pay for it? What if they are found to be innocent?

I wonder what other developed countries take this approach to so-called "Miranda rights".

If they are found innocent, then they are not billed. What typically happens in my neck of the woods is that the prosecutor overcharges the case, offers a deal better than what even an innocent person is likely to get before a jury in a conservative Texas county, and as part of that deal, includes reimbursement of what the county shells out to the defense attorney. If the defendant takes it to trial and loses on even one count, you get a motion for reimbursement.

So they are essentially financially blackmailing indigent defendants to plea bargain their way out of trumped up charges?

Even if they're not indigent it's a lousy system. I don't mind someone guilty of the serious charges having to reimburse, but someone found innocent of all but the most minor charges?

Sounds corrupt.

That is really lousy. It's hard enough to turn your life around and be barred from most employment without also getting stuck with a serious debt.

Out of curiosity what lawyers did she have? They seemed like good lawyers, not your run of the mill public defenders. Who paid for them?

Her lead lawyer was very run-of-the-mill, but he got $89,000 in fees when she sold some pictures to the media. Then she got claimed indigent, but the State of Florida caps lawyer fees to $15,000, not even enough to cover a proper defense in a high end felony case, much less a death penalty case. The lawyers will get paid when Casey gets paid for publicity. They also raised their profile, so their practices (especially the lead lawyer) will improve.

what is the csi effect and why do people keep posting one liners about it every page like they are the first one to bring it up?
