CCM1 (epic mod)

well I guess it is time to go back to chieftain. It's like you don't play this game, you just watch it.

I must be missing something - It takes 20 secs for my turns and 3 mins for the AI on turn 45. What is the problem - is it my old comp?

Hi darski,

on my old 2,6 mhz pc with only 256 MB RAM, the AI-turntimes for CCM on hughe maps with 31 civs were only some seconds until about 2/3 of the techtree in era 2. Than the AI turntime mounted considerably. So if your pc should be less than these specifications, I think it can be your your old pc. If your pc has these specifications or above, 3 minutes for turn 45 is very long.

So darski, what are the specifications of your pc? If you you post the save-file of your game in turn 45 or any other turn, I will give that save-file a run on my current old laptop with a 2,26 mhz pcu and 512 MB and will tell you about the AI turntimes on that laptop.

For all cases here is a screenshot from the CCM download thread about the proper installing of CCM:

I got the info for my computer and will post the pic when my comp is free from Civ for a moment.

I don't keep saves so I can't get you one. I have tried going smaller with fewer Civs and it did make a goodly difference in time.

I have to get used to the major differences from my usual play style. i am going to keep at it but I'm a slow study. Don't count me out yet; it just takes me longer.

Is it possible to change the graphics for terrain and such?

When playing with fewer civs, you should have an eye, that there are at least two civs with christanity, islam and buddhism, so there is some competition for the religious wonders.

Is it possible to change the graphics for terrain and such?

CMM comes with two very common terrain types in its mainfile: SnOOpy´s terrain that is the standard setting for CCM terrain (the graphics files exist in the arts/terrain folder) and the Ares terrain, existing in the TerrainAres folder. Here is a screenshot about the structure of the arts-folder for CCM containing both terrain types:

If you want to change CCM from Snoopy´s to Ares terrain, simply rename the folder terrain to terrain1 ( or any other name) and than rename Aresterrain to terrain. CCM now will use that terrain. If you want to use another terrain you should rename the folder terrain (containing SOOpy´s terrain to terrain1) and than give the folder containing the new terrain you want to use the name terrain. If you want to use the C3C standard terrain give me short post and I will give you a biq allowing to use this terrain without copying it in the CCM/arts folder.

So I finally got round to downloading this. Been meaning to for a long time. Started a game and all the civs start off right beside each other. Why?

What do I have to do to stop this? Looking for the answer but haven't found it yet.

Hi nick, I think this is a conflict when too many civs are pressed by the random map generator in a map that is too small for them and with distances that are too big between the single cities of a civ. The AI tries to place the civs on the map with the distances between them that are given in the settings of a scenario and compresses the civs that are left one near the other. If you choose the hughe map with 31 civs and continents as setting, I hope this shouldn´t happen.

nick, what were your settings in map-size, number of civs and earth-type?

I see. Well it was a huge map with 31 civs, but the problem was that I set 80% sea, arid, cool and 3 billion years, so I had the minimum possible locations for cities since mountains, tundra and deserts all can't have cities.

I did a few tests and it seems that with these settings the game tends to clump togther and about 4 or 5 civs. If you decrease the amount of sea to 70% though it doesn't seem to be a problem.

EDIT: Oh and it was a continents map.

I had the minimum possible locations for cities since mountains, tundra and deserts all can't have cities.

Yes, this was it. :yup: 80 % sea on continents with a huge map and normal conditions never was a problem for 31 starting civs (so 70 % is better), but when subtracting big parts of the 20% landmass for settling by setting desert (or icetime) conditions, there is not enough place for the random mapgenerator to place all 31 civs well and such starting concentrations can happen - not only in CCM but in all other mods with terrain that is forbidden for founding cities, too.

I got this pic of my specs. They seem to be better than what you posted in memory and processing.

However, I have found that this comp is very greedy on using memory. When I just turn it on it is at 40% usage frequently. (I use fast defrag a lot)(I also have a lot of image intense files)

I don't usually pick Civs, I like random for the interest factor. I'll have to see what fits where then.

Yes, darski, normally such a pc shouldn´t have any problems to run a 31 CCM civ game without problems in era 1 and most of era 2. Your pc has better specifications than my old one. But with the memory problems you desbribed it´s the question, if you will have much fun with CCM, as in the last third of era 2 in CCM, the AI turntimes are raising.

I am determined to learn to play this game... I just need more crochet on hand to fill in the wait times  :mischief:

I've tried 3 games and this game is unplayable on my machine. I even used End It All to free up memory and it was at 75% usage on turn 42.

I'm going to play with the biq and see if I can get it to be playable. It would be a great game if I had a chance at it. Hit Enter and wait is not my strong suit.

Excellent work on this mod - just not on my machine. <<sigh>>

darski, thank you for your kind words :), so it´s a pitty that your pc can´t handle that mod.

I am trying to work it out so that I can use this bigger computer but Win 7 CANNOT read a .biq file. does anyone have a suggestion for a workaround?

This comp should be able to handle this game were it not for this stupid Win 7 garbage.

What do you mean by not read it? I have been running Win7 for about a year now, with no problems.

Do you mean that you start C3C and get a read error on the file? I would make sure I installed
C3C running the installer as admin. The mark the conquest exe properties to run as admin.

When you add CCM run the unzip as admin to allow it to write in the x86 folder.

The game works just fine but I cannot install a .biq file anywhere. The editor, which has the same icon as a .biq, does not work at all. I can open it but nothing after that.

Yes, C3C -and of course mods like CCM- run under windows 7.:) I´m playing it under windows 7 (64 Bit) for nearly one year without big problems. I have a colour distortion in some menues and the x86 folder is a little bit tricky as when changing some files there must be done some additional procedures. So I consider to place Civ 3 -other than the automatic installation tries it- in the normal programs folder.

I will post some screenshots how C3C and CCM are placed on my pc.

Actually I am not sure about finding the biq with the editor, that may work. It will just not be able to write it back to x86. By install what do you mean? Do you mean you open the editor and select open and do not see any biq?

If so in the menu right click and select run as admin. Then open and you should be in the x86 for infogammes. You should see the file types as biq. If not the what does the open box show?

Too bad you are outside of the US, I could call you. My landline is free in the US.

Here are some screenshots of C3C and CCM under windows 7:

A screenshot from my current desktop showing my Civ 3 starting icons (and some others):

And here is a screenshot of my scenario folder containing the CCM biq and the CCM folder. The path in the screenshot is underlined in blue. Take care for the folder in the redlined square. Here windows 7 frequently hides biqs and other stuff. May be your missing biqs are in that folder.

I have Vista 64bit so I probably shouldn't put my two cents in but anyway, when installing the game to Program Files (x86) I always turn UAC off first and then install C3C. After installing C3C I right click on the Infogrames Interactive folder and select properties, then security, edit, and check Full Control for CREATOR OWNER, SYSTEM, Administrators, Users, and TrustedInstaller. Then hit Apply, OK, and then I install the CCM mod. Then turn UAC back on, reboot and play. Works great for me. I hope some of this might help you. :)
