Earth: A vile cesspool of environmental catastrophe and sickness. Irresponsible individuals thinking only about the now. It was difficult for humanity to realize a problem that was gradually unfolding. There was no big bang or huge single event. It was a gradual decline. Some called the Floating Bridge a cult, while others felt they were the last rational group of individuals, scientists, and artists to exist.
The Floating Bridge advocates a completely sustainable, green, environmental existence. Vegetation, plants, trees, wildlife- all of these things are more important to the Floating Bridge than any thing else. Even humans. To the Floating Bridge, humanity is a scourge, a leech of sorts, brought from the depths of Yomi, or hell, to destroy anything and everything. It is the Floating Bridge's goal to purge themselves of their humanity completely, to meditate and see outside of themselves and become one with nature. To become part of the natural world.
Scholar and advocate of sustainability Kaito Musashi was the one to first officially found the free state of the Floating Bridge. While many appreciated the existence of this group, the conditions for actually becoming part of this state were extremely arduous. One had to empty oneself of all humanity, as it were, to achieve a higher state of being. To do this, an individual had to undergo massive amounts of meditation and long journies through some of the most intense wildernesses found in Asia. Kaito Musashi began his "free state" on a small island off the coast of Japan known as Naoshima, which was once a large artist colony in the Seto Sea.
Eventually, the movement gained such a following and devotion that the Japanese government recognized his achievements. Kaito Musashi had, with the help of his committee, developed clean technologies and had extensively helped the Japanese people, asking for nothing in return.
Naoshima became a beautiful island filled with advanced arcologies and modern sculptures. It was truly a testament to the technology and society that Kaito Musashi had invented and long been a supporter of.
Yet of course, as time went on, people forgot about the Floating Bridge's good deeds, and corporations began to see their existence as a threat to good old-fashioned money-making. The Japanese government dropped support for the free state due to their affiliation with powerful Yakuza lords who were tied to the corporations. Kaito Musashi refused to resort to violence while Yakuza and government plots unraveled the foundation of the Floating Bridge. Even Naoshima was in danger.
This is where we find the Floating Bridge now. Unable to find peace on Earth, and unable to escape constant persecution by powerful, omnipresent corporations, and unable to find an understanding public under the constant pull and sway of government propaganda, the Floating Bridge has arrived to Tolima with great optimism. It is their hope to create a completely sustainable, eco-friendly society, in which Tolima is worshipped as a being within itself, much like the Earth was.
