That's fairly straightforward, but for armor I'm really at a complete loss. It seems like I'd need more stats regarding how each piece will affect my Dex bonus to AC.
The lower the AC number the better.
Since you are a fighter you have no restrictions regarding armor and weapons.
Your best choice is to get the strongest armor you can buy with the money you have.

What's best for me too?
Would I look good in a helmet?
Can I just have inneffectual armor that just makes me look sexier?
Ill post restrictions per class at the end of this post.

I could do with:
A dagger - 2gp
Leather/studded leather armour - 30gp/40gp (OOC: Do I have proficiency in studded?)
Studded Leather is the best armor for your class, you dont have any proficiencies for armor only restrictions per classes.

@Raisin: I believe this is what's best for a ranger? If you can offer any suggestions I'd be much inclined
Yes but I would choose a stronger armor.

Restrictions per class:
Fighter and Ranger : No restrictions on weapons and armor.
Cleric : No restrictions for armor class but only allowed Blunt weapons.
Mage : Cannot wear any armor. (robes only) Dagger, Quarterstaff, club and slings.
are the only weapons allowed.
Thief : Leather or studded leather armor allowed. Short sword, dagger, club, slings and shortbows allowed (darts also)
Bard : Leather, studded leather or Chainmail allowed. (you cannot cast spells with a chainmail on but you can with studded or leather armor.) Any weapon is allowed.
Mage, Thives and Bards are not allowed to wear helmets and Gauntlets.
I added the sling in the choices. I forgot to put it yesterday.
@Ummmmmmm........ I calculated your AC with a half-plate and it would bring it to
AC 2
