Characteristics for Balkan and East European races

Then how about Uskoks as their UU with the amphibious flag checked? Anyone got a suggestion for animations that would fit? Stats?- Med infantry, amphibious, dont need Iron ( no heavy armour) ?
Would this be even close? Either this or the knight replacement (suggestions for names?). But I already use Winged hussars for Poland and horse archers for Hungary. Would like a non cavalry UU.
Senj was a very heavily fortified city right?

The other "Yugo/Serb" unit I can think of it is the JNA (Yugoslavian Peoples Army) cadet, but they never really accomplished anything spectacular for Serbia & Montenegro.

True, true :D

Not only Senj, Knin also and other places in Krajina. This was military area, even they called like that "Vojna krajina". Yes,Uskok's like med infantry will be just fine, it's a good idea. :goodjob:

For Doc M:

I think You mixed some facts, Hajduci operated in Serbia, central part was there zone, Uskoks was operating in Croatia, and Yes, they have been a part of Austrian army. Austrian tsar gave them a huge autonomy, even for their religion - Ortodox. :)

Thanks Srdjan,
Got a list of Serbian city names and great leaders while I've got your attention?

Yeah, I'v seen that You already gave some names. Sorry to disapoint You, but, Osijek and Belgrade are not Serbian. These citiys was Hungarian in medival era.
Here some city names:

Nis, Ras, Novo Brdo, Nerodmlja, Skadar, Dubrovnik, Prilepnica, Ser, Skopje, Velbuzd, Krusevac, Zvecan, Smederevo, Pec etc.

for Leaders:

Milos Obilic, Knez Lazar, Toplica Milan, Kosancic Ivan, Jug Bodan, Marko Kraljevic... all of these names are from medival history.

And I think that Russians are not for Balkan scenario, better to be Bulgarinas, and Byz too.
:)

Thanks for the names Srdjan, but I'm confused. I didn't give ANY names, or mention Osijek, Belgrade or Russia:confused:
Have you got me mixed up with someone else? I just joined the thread to find out about some Serb history. I thought I was better to ask a Serb than look up a website that might get everything wrong, be biased etc...
I was interested coz I want to add Serbia to a Personal Mod, I'm not the one who started this thread.
Anyway, thanks for your help.

You are right, my mistake. Sorry :)

Dubrovnik is in Croatia, he was independent, but they had to put Ottoman flag.
@Srdjan:

Hey gang,

Thanks for all of your feedback! I've added in the Serb city and leader names to my game. (I'm going to work on adding the units later.) In the meantime, do you guys have any suggestions for Romanians and Czechoslovaks?

Ja znam da je Dubrovnik luka u Dalmaciji, i zato pitam se sto si stavio u Srpski city-list.

Jedino sam spomenuo Makedoniju jer si stavio i "Skopje" medu Srpske gradove. Ali znam vise o Dubrovniku nego Skopju, pa mislio sam da mozda imas nekakav razlog koji ja nerazumijem.

Edit: Either way, Calgacus and Luca Brasi have already made a Serbian city list that afaik is pretty accurate.

Except for Tito. Calgacus, WTH is Tito doing there?

Here are my suggestions for the romanian UU:

Dacian Falxman - 100 BC/100 AD - The Falx was a weapon like a long curved sword, sharped on the inside of the blade in order to inflict damage by pulling effect. the warrior needed the both hands to use it and thus he didn't carried any hand-shield unlike the other warriors. This weapon had a feared reputation among the Roman army (the Dacian wars 100-101 AD and 105-106 AD between the Emperor Traian and The King Decebal), in fact because of the Falx the Romans had to change their helmets by adding two metal strings that crossed on the top of the head (ear to ear and from the back of the head to the front).

Romanian Dorobant - 1877 AD - was the most popular military unit during the Romanian Independence War in 1877 against the Ottoman Empire. Here is a picture of a Dorobant and a picture of the attack at Grivita near Danube at the border with Bulgaria.

Romanian Dorobant (Chivalry) - 1860 AD - The Dorobants (among other military units as Curcanii, Plaiesii, Slujitorii, Cordasii or Potecasii) was also the military unit composing the Light Chivalry of the National Guard in 1860 as horsmen with rifles...

Mikai... what you wrote sounds very intersting, but could you make sure the pix show properly? Would love to see what your suggested units look like!

and hey, what did a serb Hajduk look like?

No idea, but here's a picture of a Croatian Hajdul:

@Mikai

Thanks for the city list but why not include Sarmesegethusa the ancient Dacian capital? Didn't the Parthians fight with the Dacians against Trajan? Theres animations for a Parthian Cataphract in the units forum that would make a cool flavour unit for Romanian knights.

Also shouldn't the Checks and Slovaks be represented by two Civs instead of one.

Sto se tice ovog spiska, ehm, vecina tih gradova su moderni gradovi, malo njih ima srednjevekovne korene, recimo Loznica se pre nekih sto godina zvala Soko, a Pristina nije ni postojala. :)

I think that even though the Czechs and Slovaks are very different people for the purposes of my scenario I have to lump them together. I just don't have the space on my map. It's only 80x80. Right now I've got the Serbs starting out in Belgrade; the Hungarians starting out in Budapest, the Romanians starting in Bucharest, the Czechs & Slovaks (Sorry Slovak people) in Prague; the Russians (more accurately Russian Empire) starting in Kiev. (Sorry Ukranian people).

I also created a big concentration of Barbarians in Transylvania with fortresses and resources for the civs to fight over.

In my test scenarios I've found that the Serbs nicely expand all over Yugoslavia and start moving into Southern Hungary (when the can); the Romanians take over Wallachia and Dobrogea, but don't really go into Moldavia. The Czechs and Slovaks start making their way into Poland and a bit into Slovakia and the Russians take over Ukraine, start heading into Ruthenia and slightly into Poland. It seems no one goes into Austria or Moldavia.

Since my background is Hungarian, I decided to set it up so that it is played as a Hungarian scenario. I'm thinking that I will open it up to more choice though. That way people of all backgrounds can enjoy kicking the others' butts. hehe.
