CITN Update - Civfanatica News Thread

Aphex Twin is dissapointed at the paranoid manner in which investigations took place. We deny all accusations. Nandrolone, Hippie Heaven, Buddhas Followers and Mannered Criminals are all friends of mine, who are connected to the same ISP. We each have one nation in the UN. This is not a case of multiple accounts, but the frustrations of the Federal Empire. If it continues to sustain the Federal Empire, Civfanatica deserves it's fate.

Aphex Twin willfully renounces all ties with Nationstates. I have no time to argue extensively, since I will be having some exams real soon.

The Federal Empire was expecting an apology from Aphex Twin. Instead we get this:

So you got four friends to register accounts using your computer for the purposes of endorsing you so that you could be UN delegate? Even if this version of events is true, over which there is some doubt, I believe that most would agree that this is unacceptable behaviour. These are definitely not independent players. If we all decided to get our friends to join and endorse us there would be chaos.

And if you thought this was acceptable behaviour, why not declare it so everyone is aware of the situation? You clearly stated that you knew nothing about multiple accounts.

Aphex Twin is dissapointed at the paranoid manner in which investigations took place.

Hmmm you're disppointed that you were caught and weren't allowed to continue cheating? Well, you would be wouldn't you?

If it continues to sustain the Federal Empire, Civfanatica deserves it's fate.

You would have been caught by the game eventually, The Federal Empire simply moved events along. We will not apologise for exposing a cheat.

This is not a case of multiple accounts, but the frustrations of the Federal Empire.

The Federal Empire was the clear democratic choice of free nations. Without the support of your satellites you would have had only 12 endorsments to our 16. So yes, we were frustrated that a cheat was able to steal the delegacy from us.

Cilpothian National News Network (CNNN): Cilpot had to abandon his visit to the University of Port Nelson due to the recent discoveries by the Federal Empire. Cilpot will return to his chambers in Cilville to meet with his top advisers, but made a brief comment on the latest events:

"First and foremost, this is a sad day for Civfanatica. Not only has Aphex Twin III been cheating with the endorsements, but our region will also lose one of the most active and respected members when Aphex Twin III decided to leave.

The entire region owes The Federal Empire gratitudes for exposing Aphex Twin III. The evidences presented are unmistakable.

I will now return to my chambers to meet with my advisers before commenting further on this issue."

Veronica Goodnews, CNNN, Port Nelson

Gauta Amalis will add the following:

He is saddened that relations between two of our most prominent members have deteriorated so drastically.
He won't comment on the allegations, as he feels it is hss duty as the founder nation not to side with a delegate against a member without misconduct having first been proven.
He would also add that he does not believe that Aphex Twin III should be expelled, although he makes no comment on the nations allegedly under his control.

A Speical CITN Report from The Federal Empire

Celebrations have been taking place all over the Empire to mark Empire Day. From the Southern border to the Holy Silk Mountain, cities, towns and villages have been marking this day in their own fashion. The day began with Church services all across the nation. Later on huge parades have taken place in all of the major cities.

But none of the celebrations have matched those in Littlewood. An estimated four million people have travelled from the densely populated midlands to the tiny, isolated capital for the biggest celebration the city has ever seen. At midday, almost fifteen thousand soldiers from the 3rd Infantry and 1st Armoured Divisons paraded through the citadel square, watched over by the Lord President and the Regional Defenders. There was even a fly-past by two squadrons of Badash Interceptors and the Imperial Airlines' new supersonic jet, the Dagger.

In the afternoon there were numerous concerts around the city and then, at 6:00pm, the gates to the citadel opened and two million people poured into the citadel park to hear the Lord President make his Empire Day speech. It was followed by what is believed to be the biggest firework display ever in Civfanatica.

parade2.gif

Many people were surprised at the scale of the celebrations. Empire Day has traditionally been a low-key event to avoid inflamming inter-region tensions. But it seemed that people from all over the Empire, from whichever region they came from, were intent on enjoying the day. David Moaler (87) from Centracia said "I have never seen anything like this in my life, it's trully amazing." But perhaps the day was best summed up by Patricia Hays (49) from The Easterns: "Well, it makes you proud to be Imperial, doesn't it."

The current resolution before the Civfanatican nations may mean that the armed forces of The Federal Empire will, at some point in the future, be called upon to provide a military contribution to a joint Civfanatican force. carrier.gif

The two ships we are procuring will replace our current two small VTOL carriers, INV Victory and INV Vengeance.

The standard air group on board each carrier will consist of:

8 Sea Vulture Jump-jets
30 Sea Badesh Interceptors
2 AEW Cobra Helicopters
3 ASW Cobra Helicopters
10 Jaguar Transport Helicopters

The Sea Vultures and Cobras are already in service aboard the existing carriers. The Jaguars will be transfered from the Imperial Air Force. 30 Badesh Interceptors from the Air Force will be converted to Sea Badesh standard and transferred to the Fleet Air Arm, while a further 30 Sea Badeshes will be purchased new.

The total cost of the Alliance project will be $8 billion, including $6 billion for the carriers and $2 billion for the additional aircraft required.

The Defence Minister will now take questions from the Senate.

Defender of Badesh: What will happen to the existing VTOL Carriers?

Defence Minister: INV Vengeance will be paid off and likely stripped of its weapons systems and sold to the highest bidder. INV Victory may be converted into a large troop transporter, although this is only in the early stages of planning.

Deputy Defender of the Holy Silk: Does the Minister not believe that taking 30 Badesh Interceptors from the Imperial Air Force will be detrimentantal to operational efficiency?

Defence Minister: The 30 Badesh Interceptors being converted to Sea Badesh standard are currently assigned to naval protection duties. Our lack of carriers has meant this had to be a land-based force, but we are now able transfer them to the Fleet Air Arm. At the end of this upgrade there will be 30 more fixed-wing aircraft then there are at present in the armed forces.

Senator for South Metropolis: Does the Fleet Air Arm have the personnel required to operate these large air groups?

Defence Minister: No. Pilots and support crew will be transferred from the Air Force with the Badesh Interceptors.

Senator for South Dunnerland: Would this $8 billion not be better spent on increasing the man-power in the army, which has now slipped to 110 000, including reserves?

Defence Minister: The $8 billion is a one-off cost which will provide the Imperial Navy with force projection capabilities for the next 40 years. Once the carriers are in service they will cost little more to maintain than our current VTOL carriers. If the money was spent on forming an additional infantry division, more money would have to be spent every year.

The geography of the Federal Empire makes a land attack almost impossible. Any wars we are likely to fight in the future will require a first class navy - that is what we are creating here. These two carriers will help to make the Federal Empire totally secure.

Defender of Metropia: What will the two carriers be named?

Defence Minister: Nothing is confirmed yet, but it is likely that the carriers will be called INV Invincible and INV Indefatigable.

OOC: you just gotta love what that puppy looks like :D

BIC:

Following the release statement of the Federal Empire, the NRI senate has decided that, in time it might be wise to issue a sister statment to that of the Federal Empires', and list, at least the majority of, the NRI republics forces. The list itself would be...large, as the NRI has a compulsory military service, in which a person enters basic after high school, and serves in the military for two years,m after which they may go on inactive duty until the age of 60, or stay in the military until they see fit for retierment, in other words; dont be shocked by the figuers, easilly 1 million out of every 5 million serves in the military at any one time.

Prime Consul of the NRI republic,
Tiberius Atticus Millaveii

Great shock has greeted the news of the Federal Empire's Resignation from the United Nations. The Lord President made the following speech.

I would like to thank all nations who supported the Federal Empire through its delegacy. It has been an honour and a privilige to serve Civfanatica, and it sad that events beyond my control have led to the end of this period. However, I am sure that the next delegate will go on to serve Civfanatica in a exemplary and diplomatic manner.

Over the past six months, the landscape of Civfanatica has changed. New nations have joined, some nations have left and some have faded from existance altogether.

Our political analysts and cartographers have become historians, and now the record of our past is mostly useful to academics. Great masses of history have gone unrecorded. The world has changed, but our region is probably nearly as strong today as it was at the height of our glory.

At this moment, Civfanatica is composed of 47 nations, 21 of which are UN members. A lively discussion of our plans to launch an International Space Program is underway. There has been talk of adopting a universal currency for the region. And most importantly, the development of a Civilization 3 scenario based on the region we have created seems to be picking up steam.

The time has come to leverage our new-found energy to reinvigorate this thread. In the next few days I intend to use it to debate UN resolutions that are in discussion. As your delegate, I wish to use the extra voting power you have vested in me to reflect the will of the majority in the region.

Also I wish to establish bonds with other regions, especially those who were once part of Civfanatica but have moved on. I would like to update our web-site to include mention of allied/associated nations and regions.

I think that updating our web-site and engaging in a more involved conversation on CFC will increase the number of member nations in Civfanatica. And by establishing Civfanatica as a prescence in the NationStates world, opportunities for a more dynamic and involving experience will present themselves.

This is just a note to myself, for eventual inclusion in the updated CFC web-page should I have the opportunity to update it...

Former members of Civfanatica:
Cockbill Street (presently in Kelwana)
Ketosh (presently in The Realm of Ambrosia)

Civfanatica and the UN.

Currently Civfanatica is home to 21 UN member nations:

BaconKing
Bourgatov
Byzanz
Civfanatica
CivGeneral
Coeus
Gothiscandza
Jurimaxistan
Mescovia
Mojotronica
New Plexia
Novus Roma de Italia
Ovia
Phantomlordia
Spicelands
Terricca
The Great Doughnut God
The Potentate of MAV
The Spartan States
Vincia
Wipania

The UN member nations primary responsibility is defense of the region. There exists the constant threat of a hostile takeover by enemy forces, and subsequent mass banning and possible dissolution of our homeland.

Therefore the UN Members in this region empower a Delegate, who monitors the region for hostile activity and can take action to ban attackers in the event of an organized assault. The more endorsements the Delegate has the more difficult it will be for an enemy to conquer the region.

Furthermore our Delegate is given extra representation in the UN. A delegate gains an extra vote on issues being debated for each endorsement he or she has. So for example my vote on a UN issue has the weight of 14 votes from a non-delegate: mine, plus the 13 vested in me by your endorsements. Our region may not have much clout overall in the grand scheme of things, but the more member nations in our region, the more clout we could have.

I intend to vote by consensus, so you will have a voice in determining how I vote. I can accept a resolution, reject a resolution or abstain from voting. As a UN Member you will have to live with the resolutions that pass -- they may impact your economy and social freedoms -- so you should have your say in shaping the UN.

I encourage more nations to join, and once you join, to support me or whomever is our acting Delegate with an endorsement. This will keep our region strong without having to resort to password protection or other defensive measures.

Also I encourage you to have your say in the current UN resolution issue. I will state my opinion on each issue, but always vote with the majority.

The current UN issue:

***

Equality For All
A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.
Category: Human Rights/Strength: Strong/Proposed by: United Middle-Earth

Description: My nation is host to many different types of races and civilizations, all of whom live symbioticaly and respect eachother's cultures and right of existence. We ask that all member states of the UN adhere to that policy as well.

-All living beings no matter who or what they may be, have the inherent right of existence.

That they may live as they see fit as long as they do not cause harm to another. In simpler terms "Live and let live." If a nation employs slaves for labor for example, we submit that they must end the practice or leave the UN voluntarily.

That the aparthied inspired classification of sexual preference be erradicated from being used within the confines of government terminology.

We propose that all nations under the UN charter respect the very essence of life and vow to preserve and protect it, in all its many forms whether human, or otherwise.

***

This issue will be open for voting until 19-Nov.

I support equality for all, but have problems with the use of the EXTREMELY BROAD category "all living beings." I believe that the author intended this to cover "all intelligent lifeforms" so he or she could include Elves, Dwarves and Hobbits in the resolution. But (as worded) it has the potential to be interpreted as a statement an animal or even a plant or amoeba protection act. I am afraid that it will have unintended consequences if passed.

I think that it needs to be re-worded before I could support it, so if it were up to me I'd vote No. So far I've been ignoring it.

What do you think? Should I accept it, reject it or ignore it?

Just FYI, right now it's failing by a narrow margin -- perhaps others are concerned with the wording too. (Votes For: 6539; Votes Against: 7829)

NRI wishes to states all of its colonies have been absorbed into the republic prima (they are all "dead" in nation states terms"

I interpreted the negativity of the advanced terms for economic/social/political development to reflect the excessiveness of those systems -- in other words, get past "World Benchmark" or "Powerhouse," and your nation has moved to a stage where the liberty is making your nation an unpleasant place to live.

A "Frightening" economy is one where nukes are available retail, or slavery is legal, or where the value of human dignity is secondary to the economy. "Excessive" or more civil freedoms means that child-adult marriages are legal or similar scary developments. And a place with absolute political freedom paradoxically becomes ruled by the mightiest -- the government has ceased to exist.

Just my thoughts on it. I know a lot of you are proud of your high-end liberties, but don't you think that the negativity of the superlative implies a negative result?

I think BaconKing is running the most balanced gov't overall -- he's up there in every category, but not too far gone...
