Why go to war with them? Why not try going to war as their ally against a computer and then let them take every city of the computers?

This is actually my plan. I think the hard part will be getting them to conquer an AI city. Just by watching the way they wondered around aimless in the Japan Vs French war leaves me to believe they won't do much other than defend their land. That was at Immortal AI level too.

They were only wandering around aimlessly at first because they weren't at war with the French. Then when he bribed them into going to war, they marched bravely off and got exterminated.
