I just had a look at all the glowing review links on the front page and gee, isn't amazing how none of them mention that the game is unplayable for a lot of people because of the bugs. I can't play the game for more than about 20 minutes without the whole thing slowing down to the point of uselessness. When I see reviews like that it seems obvious that the pathetic writers haven't played to game for even an hour before they wrote their 'review'

Reviewers that lazy should be put in stocks in a public place where passers by can urinate on them at will.

Slowing down is because you don't have an updated computer. Buy some better graphic cards, etc., and maybe you may get better results :)

In fairness, several articles have mentioned the furor on the forums. Most probably can't speak from personal experience, however, because they've got great machines.

Its not the fact that there are bugs that annoys me though, its the lack of communications between the developers and the community. Surely they must have known that the game wasn't ready. Therefore instead of closing there eyes and hoping that everything was going to be alright they should of been out on forums like these admitting that there were problems and promising that they would be fixed. Its this kind of blunder that has caused the most anger, not the bugs themselves.

Seriously, does every thread have to have this post in it? No, this game isn't as buggy as many others have been, but clearly there are many problems. There's no need for posts like this.

Yeah, all you have to do is go spend MORE money to get boss hog hardware to run a game that says it meets the specs of your computer. :crazyeye:

I love how its stated so casually by some people. (not neccessarily aiming for you here Royal.) "Oh, just go out and spend another 60 bucks. Thats all.

:vomit: <-- How sick I am of hearing people act as if this is not BS.

What? Did you say something?

Sorry, I was busy playing Civ4...can you sum it up for me?

There are console systems for people like that. ;)

I myself don't expect to run the latest game at the highest resolution. That is just the way it is with PC games. The game is very playable on a Duel or Tiny map, IMOSHO, even on a low power system.:goodjob:

My specs for my 2-yr-old-PLUS PC are in my sig... The game runs fine for me, even on Normal and Large maps.

And by "Fine" I mean that I have not been plagued with the problems that people with much more expensive machines have been having...

Well, my comp meets even the 'new' specs and this holds true. To me this states the game was not ready for release. As even the reviewers mention "Though this will probably be patched by the date of release." OR "Hopefully, by the time your reading this, it will have already been corrected." OR "Being as the game is yet to go through QA it will most likely be fixed by the time of the release"

Even the reviewers will probably admit that the 'precious' game was released poorly.

I guess it goes hand in hand with the milliard of repeated posts saying "the game is unplayable for a lot of people because of the bugs". :mischief:

You lucky dog :D
This does point out that the 'buy the best stuff' solution isnt even neccessarily a solution so much as a desperate attempt that can leave you broke with little effect other than that.

I wouldn't say hand in hand. The ideas behind both dont correspond even as polarities. Also "the game is unplayable for a lot of people because of the bugs." has truth in it.

"Slowing down is because you don't have an updated computer. Buy some better graphic cards, etc., and maybe you may get better results." Can be made true by adding "Also, it may not help at all."

EDIT: Taking the icing off, and getting to the blunt fact helps

Perhaps they are playing the game just fine. I'm playing for hours on end and don't have time to read the reviews and the one's I have read are spot on, great game.

Having read about 4 reviews and having played the game myself, I would say the the reviews are pretty good...slightly high maybe, but mostly accurate. I think I would give the game a 8.5/10...not a 10/10 or 5/5, though.

I built my PC *2 years ago* and it far outstips the recommended hardware and I have no problems at all other then slow wonder movies once in a while.

2.8 ghz P-4
1 gig RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro-128meg

First of all -- a number of posters in these forums have older machines and report no problems with the game.
Second of all -- I think that the fact that most reviewers report few personal encounters with problems says that, for the bulk of the buying public, there have been few problems noted. Thousands of copies of this game must be out there by now and the great majority of people are likely satisfied or else the returns and bad press would have reached the mainstream media by now.
Third -- the people who frequent game forums like this one are the most rabid, most devoted, most picky and most vocal of all purchasers...and not all of us have reported problems here.
Fourth -- forums are a furor magnet. Even if there are only a minority of problems, the vocal and motivated individuals who have them will tend to find out about these forums and will ventilate.
Fifth -- THERE IS NO WAY TO PRE-TEST A SOFTWARE PRODUCT WITH EACH OF THE THOUSANDS OF POSSIBLE PC CONFIGURATIONS THAT ARE OUT THERE. Only a public release will put a product in front of a statistically significant number of trial cases so as to bring out all possible eventualities. Even (and perhaps especially) Microsoft, with its billions of $$$ in the bank, cannot sit on a product forever to beta test it to 100% reliability.
Sooo -- take a deep breath and chill. There is no great conspiracy of game reviewers in cabal with 2K and Firaxis to deceive the public about the game's imperfections. We are seeing a normal phenomenon. The game will be patched. This time next year, all these folks will have moved on to other issues and the "Great Civ 4 Scandal" will be a dim memory.

why take it out on reviewers who probably didn't have any trouble at all. Like it or not, this is a part of PC gaming we have to live with. For me civ4 is one of those game run very well right out of the box. I expect more bugs since they built civ4 from scratch with a new engine.

Yet I also had some bad experiences from games right out of the box so I understand how you feel. It worst in this case since you are missing out of a great game so let's hope this patch will solve your problem. On my end, I totally agree with the reviewers rating.
So IMO the reviews themselves are anything but bogus.
