Civ Accurate Maps

Thanks for telling me, i've reuploaded it.

:high5: :thanx:

I'm getting CRC errors now though after downloading. Will try re-downloading and another extractor.

Edit: Downloading again with IE fixed it. :) I was using Chrome before, don't know why it caused problems.

Minor quibble: Germany of the era would be called "Deutsches Reich" (the -es adjective ending is appropriate because you're omitting the "das"). The word "reich" doesn't directly translate into English; we use "Kaiserreich" today to distinguish the Second Reich of Wilhelm II from the Third Reich of the Nazi era. Someone during the Wilhelmine Era would think you were stating the obvious by saying "Kaiserreich."

Before the 1996 spelling reform, Russia was Rußland, not Russland (at least, if you're German. Austrians and Swiss Germans would have spelt it Russland, as far as I know.)

Also, Fraktur would definitely be the way to go for the font.

The correct latin name for Jerusalem is "Hierosolyma", not "Lerusalem" (Roma-map).

And the short form of "circa" in german is "ca.", not "c.a." (Germany-map).

Hey I found many spellings out of order in your India Map. I thought I can help you,
here are correct spellings-

Afghanistan - अफघानिस्तान
Lahore - लाहोर
Pakistan - पाकिस्तान
New Delhi - नई दिल्ली
Kathmandu - काठमांडू
Bhutan - भूटान
Calcutta(Kolkata) - कोलकाता
Mumbai - मुंबई
Are you able to see these hindi fonts?

These corrections are absolutely precise, as per my knowledge of Hindi lang.

I'd like to point out that the roman map would be more accurate entirely in UPPERCASE LETTERS as lowercase letters didn't exist in them days :)

Also, Us should be Vs.

It should be IMPERIVM ROMANVM

The maps for India and Rome (all capitalized and "U"s replaced with "V"s) have been corrected and re uploaded. The preview images will be uploaded shortly.

I'd like some input, would you rather see Modern Hebrew (closest thing to Aramaic I can get) or Modern Persian for Persia?

There's some TrueType fonts here which include ancient Aramaic (which isn't right), but also Nabataean, which might be a nice compromise.

EDIT: Actually, the Late Semitic Hebrew (a la the Isaiah Dead Sea Scroll) from here looks much closer.

Thanks I'll change the map for Persia soon, I'll have to convert the font for the Hebrew alphabet first. (it's replacing the English alphabet at the moment)

Anyway, for now, I've updated the preview image for Rome and India, and added the Ottoman Empire (Mostly modern Turkish with the Ottoman alphabet) and Persia (Currently Modern Hebrew).

Beautiful work, these look a lot better.

Just to nitpick, but I noticed that for Japan Kyoto (京都) is somewhat in the wrong place. It should be a little ways to the North-North-East and not on the coast. The current location is for Osaka which should probably be written as (大坂).

At any rate, much better than the originals!

Meh...Russia: its not Российская...its Русская. That should be the right spelling. Its just that the first one is "Roseeskaya" but the correct word is "Rooskaya". Just saying...

Wikipedia says otherwise, however.

Soooooooooo, 'you going to do "Gods & Kings" ?

Don't worry, I'm working on it, so far, I've finished the Celts, and The Byzantine Empire, When I finish Carthage, I'll upload the first version! (I've also got a little bonus for the Celts)

Done! For now, we have Byzantium (Greek), Carthage (English written in the Phoenician alphabet) and the Celts (Welsh). The Celts also have an alternate version, based of a map for a Celtic Civilization mod I made before. To use it, just replace the dds. files in the main Celt folder with the files in the Alternatives folder.

It probably just "Russia" and "Russian"

So the map says Russia, and the title says The Russian Empire

Two things:
1. You are correct about Russia - it should be "Rossiyskaya" and not "Russkaya". The difference between the two words is that "Russkiy" means "Russian by ethnicity" while "Rossiyskiy" means "of the Russian State". You can compare it to "Uzbek" vs. "Uzbekistani".
2. I noticed a minor mistake in your Persia map: the city of Gordium is supposed to be גורדיום. On your map it says "הגורדי" (haGordi), which means "the Gordian" (like in "the Gordian knot").
Hope it helps.

Added Sweden and The Netherlands.

I've also fixed but haven't uploaded the maps for France (badly done), Germany (minor errors, corrections by vcutag), Siam (badly formatted with overlapping vowels), and Persia (thanks for correcting me IgorS!).

The corrected maps with be uploaded later tomorrow.
