Civ Design Challenge III - Alternate History

Right, right, let's fire it up again!

What if... Napoleon had conquered England?

Prompt's simple, start off!

M8, that's unfair. I wasn't home for three days!

Nevertheless:

Spoiler :
For more then 50 years, Western Europe was dominated by the French Bonaparte destiny. There were no government officials that didn't have some connection to that family, whose branches strangled millions of people. Napoleon's legacy, especially the Napoleonic code, didn't hold much ground after his death... The territories he conquered, ranging from Scotland at the north to Gibraltar at the south didn't revolt, but there were daily robberies, especially in the big cities. Many Soldiers lost their lives in the British isles while fighting robbers and other criminals, just to be replaced by another contingent tasked with restoring order, which simply wasn't enough to do so just like his predecessor. The French rulers, needless to say, didn't care much for the citizens in their vast empire...

But that situation couldn't last for much longer. At 1887, former French soldiers, hired by Russian agents, killed the French emperor during a Parade. This event sparked anarchy across the great empire, with the local garrisons being unable to deal with public unrest especially in the areas who were already plagued by robberies and occasional murders. This anarchy allowed the remaining European powers, mainly Russia, to regain the territories Napoleon had conquered from them years ago. For about a decade, French rulers were unable to restore order and to take control of their burning empire.

But finally, at 1897, Napoleon V became the French emperor. Soon after, he reformed the law enforcing forces, increased the payment of soldiers and officials and made sure that there are present in every part of the empire. Few months after that, as the situation in the empire was improving, he attacked Russia. The Russians, already fighting in central Asia, didn't expect this. The garrisons they left on the French border were soon defeated by the massive forces Napoleon the fifth gathered from the many countries he still ruled. He also defeated the Polish legions that now sided with the Czar, and despite all of his victories: he abounded his campaign. He retreated to Paris, and made another Surprising decision: he chose to move his capital to London. This was what finally brought order back to the British Isles.

The return of order allowed for new liberal reforms, who gave greater freedom to the conquered peoples of Europe. Those reforms also allowed for major scientific progress. The government became less centralized, and allowed local governors to invest more in local culture. Decentralization brought stability to the empire... But that stability was one of the results of cutting the military salaries. The other result was many angry soldiers, feeling betrayed by the government they served for the most part of their Lives. Most commanding officers were nobles living in the now royal city of London, even though the soldiers were mainly french, living in villages and small towns, areas which the new administration hardly invested in.

Paul Wilson, son of a British Musician and a French woman of the Bonaparte family, wanted to become famous. Being a scientist, his only way to do so was to invent something remarkable... He found particular interest in experimenting with firearms. The Governor of London, however, didn't like hearing gunfire all day long, and neither did Wilson's neighbours. He cut his founding. Furious, Wilson immigrated to France, where he found someone who was interested in his experiments. After a few months, Wilson came up with a most fascinating innovation: dynamite.

Wilson's life changed very quickly afterwards. He started secretly producing this powerful materiel, and rumors about his work spread like fire across military personal. He became a popular figure amongst retired soldiers. Cooperating with other scientists that were abounded by the government, he started performing more experiments, and researched the effect of organic materials on the human body. The scientist had a deadly arsenal of knowledge. Soon, more people joined them, including soldiers and businessman disappointed by the government's actions. This group grew larger and larger, and at 1923 they decided to act, finally: they launched an attack on Paris, quickly overcame the local garrison and made the city their new capital. After a year, France came under their control. The Bonaparte's capital was now cut off from their other domains, and their disorganized forces in mainland Europe were no match for the coordinated scientists' war machine, fueled by more innovations. After a few years, all that was left of Napoleon's empire was Britain, his nemesis...

United Sovereign Scientist Republic (Paul Wilson)
UA: Knowledge is Power
+1 :c5greatperson: great scientist points in the :c5capital: capital, and +1% :c5greatperson: great scientist generation for each city connected to it. Conquered cities grant a small amount of :c5science: science when you upgrade units, and increase the cost of new technologies by half of the usual amount.

UU: Experimenter
Replaces great scientist. When born, grants :c5gold: gold for each technology you've researched, doubled if born during :c5war: wars. Using it for a science boost will boost the HP of all units, while using it to found an academy will grant :c5production: production in all cities.

UB: Experiment Facility
Replaces Laboratory. Unlocked earlier, at researchable parts, and costs no maintenance. The Facility yields only +33% :c5science: science by its own, increasing to +50% :c5science: science with a :c5trade: city connection. It grants +2 :c5science: science from engineer specialists, and +2 :c5production: production from :c5greatperson: GP improvements.

I count six designs, more than common for this challenge

Right, the voting starts now! Ends Friday, and it shall start again in the next monday!

I vote for Tarcisio's design this time. Liked the UB.

Don't think Tars posted here.

LOOOOOLLLLL

Sorry for that! I got confused by the Icons.

(P.S. get a proper voting post up next time... please)

I was way too tired.

I vote for Cyphose; many of the designs had a few wonderful components but Cyphose's uniques were all interesting. My favorite was the UA, a very fascinating concept, creative and well designed.

+1 for Cyphose here! I really like the UA! :D

Cyphose is having another landslide, perhaps we should just call it?

Maybe we should move with this challenge to have a model more like the others, and let Cyphose choose the next scenario.

I'll wait for confirmation either way as to whether the winner can submit the next challenge before I attempt to do so. I suspect it's NiaoMeow's decision considering it's his thread, but considering I'm new to this thread, I'm not entirely sure who the authority is here.

It's mine seeing as I'm running this now apparently. You won!

GPuzzle's authority; as GPuzzle founded the Mechanic Design Challenge, the first one to implement victor decision, I think he wouldn't mind, although of course it's his decision.
