Civ Design Challenge III - Alternate History

Theres a difference between a design based off the possible outcome of events to a deisgn based off the outcome of events which simply didn't happen.

Example to such events:
Louis kicked the ball in Ernie's direction. Ernie could possibly move, so that the ball won't touch him, by he didn't.
Benjamin Netanyahu flew to Atlantis, where he was appointed golden dragon of the KKK. Should he not fly to Atlantis, he wouldn't be appointed as the Golden dragon of the KKK.

How do you get from Britain to Australia in 2 years, if you are driven by the power of a storm which your wooden ship can't withstand...

1. Cross the Roman Empire until you get to East Africa
2. Moonsoon Tradewinds.
3. ???
4. Profit.

Didn't the Roman Empire send an envoy to Qin China IIRC (possibly Han China but my memory is rusty)? And it did manage to arrive there within less than two years if my memory is not wrong.

That means reaching from Britain to Australia isn't impossible.

Also, Magellan-Elcano's voyage puts Spain to Indonesia in less than two years.

Natan, funny thing is, he's actually correct in his timelines.

By land (Well, at least to get through the mediterranean-red sea division), and through well established trade routes.

Uhh yeah the Roman Empire may well have sent several envoys to China but these envoys would have made the voyage from the Red Sea into the Indian Ocean, a relatively well known and calm route, or by land through Asia, also a well travelled route. That was, theoretically, possible in classical times - however being blown from Britain around either the cape of good hope or the straight of magellan would have been totally inconceivable. Not to mention the fact that being blown that far without hitting any land but Australia is also pretty much impossible. Had they taken magellans route they would have hit south america long before Australia and being accidentally blown around the cape of good hope without hitting Africa seems super implausible.

And even then, TinyLittleBirdy claims it took 1 year to get from Britain to Australia in small, fragile ships designed for calm Mediterranean waters. Magellan took seafaring, large vessels and it still took twice that time. I don't see how any of that proves that he's actually correct in his timelines.

We're all having fun and I'm not criticising TLB, his design can be as implausible as he likes, but its still pretty absurd to say he's correct, coz he isn't.

EDIT: damn it tars pls

The key thing we're missing here is that after the literal Shitfire, The Doctor showing up, freaking alien probing and a lot of really implausible designs you guys get hampered on is an impossible shipwreck.

Like I said, I wasn't criticising the design, merely your implication that the design is plausible ;)

I mean, it isn't completely impossible, just overly unlikely. It would require continuously incredibly good currents and winds.

Not impossible, just borderline.

Which is completely fine given that I genuinely had The Doctor show up and save the Romanovs.

FYI Shitfire is actually a real thing
my brain does that all the time

(I got hampered on it because he made a bloody journey log. Also why my comments always cause an international debate I should stop behaving like an Israeli pm)

Shouldn't we be ending now?

Yeah, reckon so. Turns out my idea... wasn't really feasible. And I couldn't be arsed to go through with my plan B (Uru), because when I was doing some research? Wall to wall frelling racism. Not something I'm comfortable with. So yeah, not getting anything out of me, which (given what I've splurged out so far) is probably for the best. =]

..Can we vote now?

I'm voting for Urdnot, because reasons...

Uh...

That's not how the challenge pans out, I'm fairly sure.
