CIV Gold!

From Wikipedia:

The Moche cultural sphere is centered around several valleys on the north coast of Peru – Lambayeque, Jequetepeque, Chicama, Moche, Viru, Chao, Santa, and Nepena. The Huaca del Sol, a pyramidal adobe structure on the Rio Moche, had been the largest pre-Columbian structure in Peru; however, it was partly destroyed when Spanish Conquistadors mined its graves for gold. Fortunately the nearby Huaca de la Luna has remained largely intact – it contains many colorful murals with complex iconography and has been under excavation since the early 1990's. Other major Moche sites include Sipan, Pampa Grande, Dos Cabezas, Pacatnamu, San Jose de Moro, the El Brujo complex, Mocollope, Cerro Mayal, Galindo, Huancaco, and Panamarca.

just played my first game a few hours ago. wow, the loading time took me back to the days of elite on the C64 :)
i'm getting red blobs with the pictish cruithni, but i've just d/l the latest driver for my card so hopefully that'll be sorted later.
further note on the picts: i've changed pictland to alba, the actual pictish name for their kingdom. just cosmetic. but i'm wondering how to change the uu. they had a genuinely uu in their crossbowmen, possibly inventing the crossbow. so:
1. how would i make the crossbow the uu
2. would it be over-powered if it didn't need machinery(?), just an earlier tech? or
3. should it be boosted with the required tech? add a guerilla promo?

lovely intro screen too! cheers all at civ gold.:goodjob:

If you want to create a new UU, you can make your own choices. The basics of UU creation:

- which unit does the UU replace?
- what is the uniqueness of the UU compared to the UU it replaces? (promotion, tech prereq)
- what artwork represents the UU?

In your case, the idea of an earlier crossbowman could be the uniqueness. To achieve this, you could let you crossbowman replace the longbowman, by setting the tech prereq for the custom crossbowman to feudalism. Then you would have 2 crossbowman in the game though, so you need to differentiate with art work.

that's something i might try out (with some fear and trepidation!). btw, my forceware update sorted out most of my leaderhead problems (some still show purple), but not the unit ones. it could still be my ageing card isn't up to it.

What card are you using?

Some of the XML files are missing from the Mod file, is there anyway you can only upload that file?

Cant get this mod to load right. It gives me multiple xml did not load errors. I have tried for 3 days to get this loaded and can't get it to work. Can anyone help?

Forcystus and FOF13,

I got your PMs as well, so I will answer both of them.

But for those reading the thread: all the XML files are present, none of them are missing. (if they were missing, the mod wouldn't work)

And to load the mod, here are the steps:

1 - download CIVGold 4.0 (it's an exe file)

2 - double-click the exe file and DO NOT change the default path. This path should go to Program Files/Firaxis/Civ IV/Beyond the Sword/Mods

3 - the directory for CIV Gold will automatically be created

4 - download the patch (v2) and apply it in the same way

4 - start CIV IV and Load the mod

NOTES:

- you must have BtS version 3.13 to play 4.0

- the mod will take anywhere from 3-10 minutes to load when you play. This a HUGE mod with literally thousands of files being loaded, and 100s of MB of new artwork

why is it when i start civ gold it still only has the old civ's none of the new one's like australia are there .help please

Very true - that's often the culprit.

Terrybozz,

Make sure you have these lines in the Civ4Config file in the BtS folder:

If you have updated BTS to 3.13, you don't have to make this change anymore. The modular loading ini-setting is already in the mod ini and as of 3.13 this overrides the ini-setting of the main config file.

I did as instructed. But when I download it does not self extract. I have to save it and extract it with 7-zip. When I extract it routes it to the mod folder in my games, so i changed it to the correct mod folder in the firaxis games file. IT extracts a folder named $[31]. When loaded it does nothing, just the stock civs show up. Inside the $[31] folder is a civ gold folder. If i put this folder in the correct mod folder, it will show up to load, so i load it and that when the xml error shows up. I have 2 friends that downloaded this and it worked just fine. I thank you for trying to help me, but I just don't think I'll ever get it to work.
