Civ III Site Update

I stand corrected!!!

At the advent of the last screen shots, I said that I was disappointed. Upon a more detailed look at the new screen shots (I'm pulling my foot out of my mouth) my opinion has taken a 180!

I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Why can't a colony become a city in time?... that's what usually happens in our world. (Or don't I understand the culture motif of the game at all?)
rouli, I think colonies were just added to the game to give us the ability to access resources not within our city's borders. That was thier intention. I don't think that they intended the colonies for any purpose besides that. But I could be wrong. Hell, if the game reflected real life the colonies would probably declare independance! Hope you get a more secure feeling on the "motif" of the game. There is a lot to be revealed yet and I am still analyzing these facts from yesterday. -BP

The fact that the colony dissapears when your borders have grown large enough seems to suggest that borders can't get smaller when you lose certain city improvements, etc. Cause that would, well, suck

I think Ron Jeremy said it best: "OH yeah, oh baby, oh yeah, oh baby, ooooo!"

Bring it on baby! Anything I have previously said about the graphics is out of the window now. Man those graphics are sweet. All the changes sound cool, how am I supopsed to wait another six months?

It seems a little silly to me to see the mighty Dan Magaha represented by a piddly warrior - Hey Thunderfall, how about making his icon a Diplomat? (since that's kinda what he is to us here at CivFanatics)

I second the notion, also lets shower him with gifts until he arranges for sid to come and browse the boards for an hour or two

Wait are we actually suggesting having to build city improvements to make a city grow? You can't just build units over and over and expect the city to grow?

Ok, thats the end of sarcasm

I think it's a great idea for improvements in a city to be mandatory for growth. This will create some balance to the game that wasnt there in 2.

I like the bells and whistles so far, but like Palehorse said, screenshots don't satisfy my curiosity enough..how about a downloadable demo or tutorial?

I believe that Sid Meier and his team will do it again - Sid Meier's Civilization III will reach the top of strategy gaming, no doubt. To read about Civ III at this point - it is still early, remember - just get me more and more excited to see a demo. WHEN WILL WE SEE A DEMO!!!

Keep up the good work, and you will succed!

I like the idea of making Dan's icon a diplomat Magnus. Mongul Horde, how do we know that Sid doesn't browse these boards occasionally already? I think it's more likely that he would want to see what his followers are saying about the game he is building. I bet that there are lots of Firaxians that browse this site. Maybe even some of the posts here are by Firaxians to gauge what the reaction will be for an idea they are thinking of implementing in Civilization III. Makes you think, doesn't it?

Very, very cool. I, too, am changing my mind about the graphics. I don't know if they are making subtle changes to them, or if I'm just getting used to them as I see them more, but the terrain graphics are definitely growing on me. Given the extreme strategic importance roads will have, I hope there is some provision for guarding those roads in a Rebuplic or Democracy when having troops outside your city causes unhappiness. I really don't want to spend a bunch of time building forts everywhere.

I'm still waiting for some SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS!!!!! How can I know whether to pre-order if I don't even know if my machine will run the game! Dan, help me out here, please!!!! (BTW, the diplomat icon for Dan is a great idea)

If the resources are in another civs borders, will you be able to constuct colonies there, mabye only if you have a certain agreement, or will you have to trade for them?

The way I see it if you build a colony there (on the resource in your opponents territory)and have your troops on it you can "steal" those benefits as long as you have a road connecting it to your capitol.
This assumption is made based on the fact that if you put troops on your enemies resource in Civilization II they can't assign a worker to that resource.

If the opposing civ has borders that encompass a resource, they control it and you can only get that resource by trade or by force (i.e., capturing the city). That's why the borders (and by extension, culture)are so important.

I take it that this means that you won't be able to build a colony within enemy borders?

How come you can't send a force to capture the resource that would make good sense to me.

if you capture ground with uranium inside your opponents border and the you get peace with him, will you be able to keep it as an enclave or must you give it back?

I suggest you wait for the tutorial that comes with the game when it's released...but then that would kill the thread...
