The Toltecs were a civilization that existed prior to the Aztecs in Mesoamerica, figuring in Aztec mythos. Although they were long gone by the time Columbus reached the American continent, I thought they would be a nice addition to Civ4Col.

This is based on strategyonly's Civ4 Toltec Civ; the Topiltzin leaderhead was done by Amra.

Looks great! Such a contraversy surrounding the Toltecs. Were they a real ethnic group like the Aztec and Maya? Or were they a class of people representing the upper class "educated" people? Or were they an ancient tribe that split into a few different tribes? Seems there is a lot of evidence to support all views in traditional history and science. :)

One complaint though, his name is backwards. It is actually Topiltzin Cē Ācatl Quetzalcōatl (Our Prince One-Reed Feathered Serpent) if you look it up. :)

Thanks :) Aye, there is a great controversy around their existence. Like you mentioned, some consider them to be a term for a class of highly skilled men. That term seemingly was really used by the Aztecs in that sense, though I imagine they could have called skilled people "Toltecs", by associating them with a sophisticated previous civilization. Much like "Byzantine" can mean futile sophistication for westerners, associating a stereotypical vision of a society with elements of our own society that resemble that stereotype.

I just looked it up (in google) and got some results as "Topiltzin Ce Acatl" and some as "Ce Acatl Topiltzin", with wikipedia using "Topiltzin Ce Acatl". So I don't know which to use :p

You could use the simpler Quetzalcōatl. Though note that just using the last name can get confused with Quetzalcōatl the Aztec God.

EDIT: Actually, better usage would be Cē Ācatl Quetzalcōatl, since Topiltzin is more like a title in western terminology: Our Prince.

I think both Quetzalcoatls are supposed to be the same, with the ruler being divinized after death (according to some hypothesis, of course, there is no certainty) which wasn't too uncommon an occurrence in many cultures.

Anyway, I'll change the name to Ce Acatl Quetzacoatl in a next version.

Nice, but do the +300% treasure and 1/2 time in village apply to their units/captures or if you live/capture them?
