Civ V Steam Workshop and beta patch: how to get access

the SDK beta finally allows direct edition of dependencies, references and blocks !

That's a great news for compatibility between mods :D

Really doesn't look like much has changed [version is 1.0.1.674 for those interested]

combat is still based on 10hp
the only differences I have noted so far:
options menu has a check for Quick Movement (both sp & mp)
advanced set up menu has check box for Quick Combat AND Quick Movement

I'm sure [I hope!] there are other changes, but this is it so far ...

What are quick movement and quick combat?

Intro Graphic is a welcome reprise from the video but it still needs a quicker animation to appear to show you it hasnt just hung.

Performance wise Im not sure whats happening.. Never had any probs before but I am getting the very odd pause now where it seems confused which unit I should be working on (bizarre). Could be because this is a saved game and every civs been flipped.

Steam workshop looks much better controlled than how the mods used to work..I like it and the new mods active info screen.

I noticed a nifty improvement;

When I use single player autoturn, the game actually pauses when a barbarian runs up to a city so that I have time to blast it with the city defenses. Before, it was an exercise in fast reflexes to nail the sucker before the next turn kicked in.

Ha alright so I asked this elsewhere but I guess this is the place where people are actually looking.

Any idea if this patch/steam workshop addition adds mod capabilities to mac versions fo Civ V?

Odd.. I use quite a few mods from the old system or direct from here (prob with the old system is it can be so out of date) on both sytems and the macbook is fine with them..

:( my game now crashes! I can't even get to the main menu.. the first three logos flash (2k, Firaxis, Gamespy) the game then I believe attempts to play the Main Intro before it skips it and then the Loading screen starts with the background music (oh how I loathe thee).. but after few seconds the game simply crashes!
D:

I would like to mention that whenever I had the movie turned on the game did also tend to crash.

Try this:

Get on Steam, select Games List from the View menu, right-click on Civ5, select Properties from the dropdown list, click on the Local Files tab, and select Verify Integrety of Game Cache. I was having trouble with the game crashing at startup a while back, and that fixed it.

I already did that, it came clean, no bad files.. despite my game still "Completing Installation" when I launched it after that!

I am seriously hm.. releasing red bricks! Because I am seriously scared that this will NEVER go away, I know this is beta and all, but I don't think this is because it's beta!

Try waiting til it completes installation before launching.;)

If that doesn't work you can opt out of the beta in the same dropdown menu where you signed up for it. You won't be missing much (I already have!).

the game never starts without completing the installation first :|

But it's not the beta I'm worried about.

Like I've said before, the intro always caused troubles for me because the game kept crashing, and I always turned it off.... but if the game will crash even with the option turned off, then I'll NEVER be able to get the game going again! I am praying to whoever is up there that this is nothing but a BETA issue and nothing more! I'm seriously scared!

UPDATE : So all of a sudden the cache found a broken file!? What the fudge!?

UPDATE UPDATE : Still crashes.. this si getting rather obnoxious!!!

Steam Workshop will be amazing, and I cannot wait for this!
Gods and Kings will be my next purchase as soon as I can rack up enough money haha.
Will there be any decrease in prices to the other DLCs?

I have a different problem, form time to time, which appear to be random. THe game makes one of the cores go bananas, it shoots to 1.3gb of memory and hangs. I need to go to the task manager and close the process. it didn't do it before.

Regarding turn times and AI improvements:

I started a new game (Huge M. Continents+, 22 Civs, 28 CS, Deity). With increasing AI unit numbers turn times take _significantly_ (almost exponentially) longer.
I might accept this as a result of AI improvements.
Unfortunately, there are none. The AI is as dumb as ever, no improvements to naval combat at all etc.
In conclusion one can only hope that this is debug code at work and the announced AI improvements are at least part of G&C.
If the same behavior (longer turns, AI still incredibly dumb) can we observed with the expansion as well, well...

I did tried this. And after one game (played until 272 turns - standard pace) I did de-installed this beta.

For developers: At the beginning it was smoother than previous version. I specially liked the way how the turns now end and how pop-ups for technology researched and such were easy sliding into the screen.
The map that I played were better than any previous. Is this just coincidence? Or some works were done on that area too. Map looked more realistic and with “nicer” positioned starting location (CS included). I think AI act different too (Again, it’s hard to explain by words, in English, for me) like they were more clear opinionated toward me, liked me or not. It might be just the seed of the game again, but the filling was different. I can also say all this, since after beta, I played again with the old patch and everything turned as usual.

And than it turned for the worst. It got slowly and slowly until it was almost impossible to play. My biggest disappointment were one aesthetician part of the game. Trading Posts! Why, oh why you changed it. And since you did - why you change it to such an ugly huge building that does not fit anyhow to map or scenery at all. Please make an option that we can also use old graphic style, that was (although not perfect, much better than this ugly monster that hurt my eyes whenever I looked on the map with trading post on it). Big minus for this from me.

I am back to my favourite CivV (1.511 I think). For now.
