Civ4 BTS v3.19 Patch

- Collateral damage modifiers, collateral damage immunity, and air defense modifiers, multiply instead of add

Patch notes:

Ok can someone explain this to me? Does it make collateral damage more powerful Or does it make the barrage promotions for siege units more appealing (contra the popular CR promotions)

If you give a unit promotions that gives it a total of +100% collateral damage does it really double the exact damage per collateral damage attack?

Air defense modifiers: What are these? Does it refer to the sam inf. modifier vs helicopters or the promotions that boosts air unit interception?

Hi,
After having more or less succeeded in reading with difficulty 40 pages of messages in English in connection with this Patch, I regret to announce you my increasing disappointment on this anarchistic system of evolution of the game.
Personally, I erased at once this 3.19 at the time of his automatic installation (I had for that my 3.17 on another disc) when I realized that it prevented me from playing Mods which I had so laboriously worked out on the preceding version. I found that anti-ethic and very scandalous, more especially as this new patch does not contain any information which would make it possible to avoid that. :splat:
The bulimia of some modders seems to lay us sometimes rather inadequate programs with our pleasure… With the pretext of the profit of space (=goddess Quantity!), they already introduced in some Mods of new types of hermetic files (in Art) which make from now on impossible to the consummator the personalization of the images. And here now that this 3.19 gets difficulties of installation and use to its users (even with pollution risks of the PC!!!)! How of others… I really wonder if there is a pilot on the aircraft! :woohoo::woohoo:
Could somebody help these brave men gamers (and sometimes creators) of the world… in the illumining with an exhaustive and clear summary on this Patch, thus on the next developmental perspectives of this game towards ethic and accessible formulas? Thank you!

ISTM patches always invalidate a lot of old mods -- and the active ones get updated pretty quickly. Frustrating, I suppose, but inevitably it's very very hard (and thus expensive) to give perfect "backward compatibilty" for a complex system. The choice was either no patch or breaking mods, and I think most of the community is happy that a patch exists.

Hi Dalamb,
I thank you for having had the patience (contrary to others) of reading my certainly painful text… for a follower of Shakespeare, but which is the fruit (corrected!) of what data processing currently does of better in terms of translations [Obviously, my texts in original language are available for those which would like to translate them…]. Universalism requires sometimes efforts…

In other way, I want understand your explanations well on the technical reasons of extension 3.19, but I persist in thinking that a preliminary “ReadMe” of accompaniment would have been welcome… all the more when the update is automatic and removes -without preventing- the preceding files!
Also, I acknowledge as this method of break is enough discouraging, because -from now- I badly think to take part again in the long development of a new MOD… which is likely to be out-of-date in a few months by the unexpected creation of a new extension of rupture! :deadhorse: Am I the only one to think thus?

Lastly, with the reading of the made modifications, I excuse myself some… but fear that this extension improves only one continuation of details which I personally find of an interest sometimes relatively secondary… Who will dare to face truths modifications which are essential to give to this superb game true strategic dimension that one imagines to him (Resources non-random but adapted to the peoples, creation of a “Right-of-way limited” to the only ships +civil +exploring, development and implemented of principles of Supply for the armies operating outside, addition of Admirals, etc…) ? :woohoo:
How I am not data processing specialist, nor appointed GameDesigner of the game, those are obviously only suggestions! (For those which would like to seriously implement them in a new extension, I am obviously at your disposal…).

Still thank you for your attention!!! :hatsoff:

I can't play Civ IV (including BtS) on my new computer with Windows 7 unless I permit the Installaltion Wizard to change my HD in a way that destroys my Internet connection. I had to reinstall Office Outlook. So it's bye-bye to Civ for me unless Firaxis (or Microsoft) produce a miracle cure, or Firaxis produces a Civ V which is compatible with Windows Vista/Windows 7.

I can't imagine anything that the installer would require you to do that would destroy your internet connectivity. Can you be more specific? What exactly does the installer tell you to do?

Most likely that's a security feature that requires you to allow BTS to install files into the Programs folder. If you don't let it install, how can you play? I don't see how that could possibly break your internet connection, but I don't know what BTS does when it installs.

Actually, even if I give that permission, the game is exited.

Did anyone notice that having a temple of your state religion also gave you the added bonus of +2 production. I was Justinian.

All religious buildings belonging to the religion of the Apostolic Palace provide +2:hammers:. The religion of the AP is chosen as the state religion of the player who builds it IIRC. I don't know what happens if they don't have a state religion at the time. From then on the bonus applies unless you have defied an AP resolution.

The AP cannot be build if there is no state religion present - and its religion is set by the state religion the builder runs on the turn of its completion.

I don't particularly think that a new patch is coming out anytime soon, if it does at all. I personally don't think it will, but then, many people thought 3.17 was the last patch.

@jongon: That's been there for a while.

I recently downloaded CIV BTS on Direct2Drive with patch 3.19. My PBEM buddies patched their CDrom versions to 3.19 so we could play together. But now when we try to start a game this scenario happens: Player 3 gets the save from Player 2 but when he tries to open the save file it asks for player 2's password, so we're completely stuck.

We never had this problem playing under patch 3.17. Is the issue that I'm using a Direct2Drive copy and they're using CDRom versions? I doubt it, because I used a Direct2Drive version when we played under 3.17 with no problem. The only other difference is that I'm now using Windows 7 versus Vista.

So is there a problem with 3.19 or is it something else? If something else, anyone have any good ideas what it could be?

Ah, just figured it out. The trick is to not overwrite a save. So the problem was with 3.19, but while annoying it's fixable.

Will this be the last patch for BtS? I'm sure there's some extra tweaking or bug fixing an OCD monger such as myself would enjoy :p

Will this be the last patch for BtS?

The 3.19 patch was a complete surprise to the Civ4 community. So while we expect 3.19 to be the last patch for BTS, saying it is the last patch would be meaningless. And you won't get an answer out of Firaxis.

I've downloaded the installation file, and I go through the process, but then I get to the registration screen and click next, and it just exits. I've tried installing through the game and with a separate file. Any suggestions?

EDIT: I installed 3.17 first then 3.19, and it installed fine, so no problems now.

Would this game work with Windows 7, because Vanilla works fine in fact better then when i had XP but BtS won't open after i install it.
