Civ4 BTS v3.19 Patch

You can got straight to 3.19, IIRC.

It's always nice to see people who are in too much of a hurry to post their own queries to read the most recent posts about the same thing.

For some reason, when I bought Civ4 Complete, I tried to patch BtS to 3.19. It would cut off in the middle of installation, and the Task Manager wouldn't let me do anything about it, and in fact, close the window! I then patched it to 3.17 (don't know why, it came as 3.17) and then tried patching it to 3.19 and that worked! Guess that's something to bear in mind when dealing with Complete! lol

Is it a way to install the patch without using the execute ? Because the execute tells me that BtS is not installed properly and I don't want to reinstall the whole BtS.

Thanks,

If BtS is not installed properly, how do you expect to install an official patch? Have you been playing silly buggers with your installation?

No it is because I did a backup of BtS folders and only past it on my new computer without reinstalling BtS. I guess I will have to find my CDs.

Then you've been playing silly buggers, I'm afraid. You need the registry codes and whatnot to run the game - copy-pasting the folders only works if it's already been installed.

I don't think this is true. Yes, you need the registry to patch the game as that's how it knows where to look, but not to play it. That's fairly typical of most programs. It gets the install location when you launch the game from its process (Windows), and it can find your My Games / BTS folder through Windows APIs. The version information is embedded in the application itself.

What is the English translation of "silly buggers"? :D

hi everyone,

ive made a makefile for 3.19,

ive tested it and it works (use only final release).

:)

***edit - dont forget to change the sdk folder in the file.

You should make a "sticky topic" of your file !!

Alot of 3.19 modders are gonna need it...like I did

I just copied the directory from one computer to the other and dragged a new shortcut out. No registry stuff, no copying the stuff in /mygames, or anything else. Worked fine.

Awesomme, thatnks for finding out!

That is English! Honestly, you colonials :D It roughly translates as "silly fools", though strictly speaking of course, "buggery" is the act of sodomy.

Maybe if we get a 3.21 patch, Firaxis can disable the in-game patch, since it doesn't work.

Buggers and Frig/Friggers/Frig-off were common here in NS for the youngin's to use as alternate expletives without getting a smack upside the head by elders ;-) Course I do recall one particular Social Studies prof (Grade 9) getting particularly worked up over "frig-off". Granted I didn't really know one of its other meanings at the time.

@deanej, I've never used the in-game patcher, as I prefer to know where stuff is going for archival purposes - and easier just to put it there to start with.
I have seen many people register here just to ask about problems with the in-game patcher. So I can't say from personal experience anyways.

Yeah, I would never use the in-game patch for Civ4. The patches are over 100MB! I only want to have to download something that size once. If I need to reinstall, I've already backed it up onto a DVD.

Sorry in advance if this is been discussed already. This thread is quite long now.

Is it worth backing up some of the BTS game files (and if so, which ones) before applying the patch, just in case something goes wrong, or I find the lack of overflow gold too annoying, or I want to play a game that someone has posted with 3.17?

Thanks all. :)

couldn't you just reload 3.17?
