civ4 loading probs

Can anyone help, i've been playing civ4 for a few weeks no probs, i've just purchased new hp notepad with window's vista, i tried to play online and had to download patch from advanced options since then civ4 hasn't loaded.
I'm not the greatest with comps but managed to overcome a dll prob but now when it loads it freezes at the check xml on the loading screen.

any suggestions would bee appreciated.

hi there

yes, that was the 1st thing i did, it gets to that screen with check xml freezes and i have to use the the toolbar to close the program, a couple of times it's been past there and freezes on the init mp/ voice part but no further, it was working fine until i downloaded the patch,

is there any error message in the windows event manger/viewer when this happens?

are you running the game with administrator rights?

i don't know havent altered anything from playing it prior to loading patch

try this: right click on the shortcut - and select run as administrator - does that help at all?

just tried that still no luck, i appreciate your help i don't know what it can be.
