Civ4 patch 1.74 is released

I'm having trouble downloading this new direct x. When I try to download it I get a popup saying

"(Internet Explorer Security Warning) Windows has found a problem with this file. Name: dxwebsetup.exe
Publisher: unknown publisher

So I click on "ok" (the only option I have) and it cancels the download. Any ideas whats going on?

Yes, unless the save is locked (or admin password protected)

That is odd.. I just tried myself, and it works fine

I guess you can try this download instead:

It is a bit bigger, but will also upgrade all the files (it will download them all to your machine first before installing instead of only downloading the needed files)

The newest Direct X 9.0C was released about 10 days ago. The URL can be found here:

Unfortunately when I go to run downloaded dxwebsetup.exe, it (repeatedly) gets to screen "Downloading Components", with "Downloading DirectX 9.0 SDK Update (2005) ..." sits there a while, then throws up a DirectX Setup dialog box with message "Setup could not download the file. Please retry later or check network connection"

I've hosed my civ install until I can get this download to work

Yes.. I tried on a PC that hadnt been updated for ages, and it had problems getting those files too.. guessing a server is down at microsoft or something

"a PC that hadnt been updated for ages" -- or a 9 month old Dell laptop

FYI you can download that component successfully by searching on that text at yahoo then installing that. I'm doing that now, not done though so still not certain it will fix my original problem. Update: done with that but now it hangs on downloading the feb 2006 update. Repeating the manual process for that one now ... sigh. this could take all night, the oct 2005 one took almost 10 minutes to install, and I see the Feb 2006 one is 337mb (!)

Just use the 2nd link I posted.. it is around 55megs and contains all the files you need.. when you run it it will extract to a dir of your choosing, and then you just run the setup inside that

I purchased Civ 4 through Steam. Has anyone tried installing the patch manually with a Steam copy? I didn't want to mess everything up.

Steam should auto-update it in a little while I suppose...

Yes, that is DEFINITELY a better alternative -- wish I'd noticed that sooner. As it was I had to wait over 10 min while the April 06 finished installing before I could try. I spent over an hour downloading & installing over 1gb of directx sdk patches, and got only to 4/06. I downloaded and ran the other file & had civ going again in 5 minutes! Thanks Gyathaar!

This certainly has caused some issues for the Multiplayer community. I think it needs everyone to have the latest patch for it to work.

I'we downloaded it, and I couldn't run the game anymore. So I had to install the game again, and naturally download 1.61 patch again. I'm pissed like Eric Cartman!!!!!!!! Don't download that bull....! And they can also forget about me buyin' that BTS crap! There's plenty of mods around here.

I'm mulling this patch over.... Everything else in the orignal post seems so-so. I would probabaly unmod that Mech Infantry 'fix'.

Anybody know what the Great Person Multiple Missions exploit is? A search didn't find anything.

Ive heard that the multiplayer community gets the option of downloading immideatly when they login so that everyone should have the same patch.
