Since Civ5 is more than likely just around the corner (as in maybe this year or very early next year), and we've already got threads about basic gameplay changes we want...

Who all do you want to be in Civ5? Like what civilizations with what leaders, and what bonuses should they get?

Rules: No bashing other people for suggesting someone you don't feel should be in the game. If someone wants Steve Irwin of Australia, let them want Steve Irwin of Australia.

This is on top of people we've had from Civ4, except where mentioned otherwise:

America:
Jefferson Personally, I think he's more deserving of a spot than Roosevelt. He needs traits that give bonuses to the economy and the expansion of territory.

England:
Henry VIII It's good to be the king. Come on. Who -doesn't- want to be Henry VIII? You're reading this right now and nodding. Even if you're an anglophobe you're nodding. He'd need empire management and warfare bonuses. Maybe the ability to sleep with female leaders to boost diplomacy.

Japan:
Hirohito It's been fun playing as him in Civ4 mods, and he did have an, albeit negative, large impact on his nation and the world.

Greece:
King Leonidas I'm so going to be flamed for this one. Look, I know Greek history very well, and I know the movie wasn't very historically accurate at all. It wasn't Pearl Harbor inaccurate, but it was still inaccurate. But let's face it, it'd be fun to play as a 300-inspired Leonidas. Maybe a mix of 300's version and the real Leonidas.

Viking:
Leif Ericson Some have suggested making him a Great Explorer unit, I'd much rather seem him as an actual leader. I think he deserves it.

Israel:
Moses Played by Charlton Heston. 'nuff said.

China:
I want a leader from pre-unification China, or at least have them fix the First Emperor.

Egypt:
Just give me more Egyptian leaders. >.> I like playing as Egypt, but I suck as them on Civ4. Partially because they seem like they should start off with Mysticism, because they almost seemed designed around getting an early religion.

Civs I want added but am divided when it comes to what leaders to give them:
Hittites
Phoenicians
Ireland or maybe a group Ireland/Scotland civ
An Australia-Aboriginal civ, maybe
Canada
And I'd like to see the Picts or have a Pict leader added to the Celt civ.

Civ4 leaders that need to be made better:
Washington
Qin Shi Huang
Mongolia as a whole. Come on. -Come on-.
Augustus Caesar. Honestly Ind/Org fits him better than Ind/Imp, although JC is just perfect as he is I guess.

Civ leaders I want removed:
Roosevelt. Jefferson is a better replacement for him.
Stalin. I'd prefer playing as Lenin, really. I know Stalin had more of an impact, it's just a personal preference I guess.
Queen Victoria, Henry VIII is a better replacement and I'd prefer that no Civ have more than three leaders.

I also almost want to say Saladin since he wasn't so much a civilization leader as he was a religious extremist with a large following. I guess that's just semantics, though. If we keep Saladin in, maybe we should add in Lionheart, because it'd be neat to do a little Crusades scenario.

I don't want Moses. Not that I hate the man, but if I try to argue it'll open up a can of worms.

No Hirohito (Except for a scenario)

But Meiji... damn right.

Meiji as well. I also forgot to add Vercingetorix for the Celts.

Imagine if they put my little country, New Zealand, in the next civ!
Our island is nearly as big as Japan's.

Only downfall's are that our leader(s) have no traits. We study techs 10 times longer. Our maintainance is 250% more. Our resources are zilch. We are not allowed anything nuclear. We are only allowed 1 unit per city.

UU = All Black.

UB = Hangi Pit.

Maybe we could at least be included as a backward barbarian nation?!

They just finished CivRev and moved onto Colonization. No way Civ5 is coming out this year or next.

They finished CivRev a good while back, and Civ Colonization looks extremely far along. Not to mention that they didn't have to put much work into Colonization.

I beleive that they already started Civ V ( from what Sid said a month ago ) : Col is just a mod and probably is not having much manpower assigned to it and Firaxis is already working in something ( Beta testers request in Civ4 main forum, Sid saying that they are already working on the next project .... )......

On topic: I don't want to be nitpicking , but I think Portugal deserves a spot in the first line ( far better than Mali, for a example  )

Generally speaking, there needs to be more leaders. Some have three, but most have one and that's just not very good. Granted, in my ignorance, most of them I've never heard of. (Who the heck is Pacal? He sure is funny looking, though!

:D)

More than anything, I'd like to see more depth in espionage. The BtS introduction of points was a good step, but I feel a half measure. I want to be able to wreak some real havoc, Civ1 or 2 style.

Maybe give religions a bit of flavor, if it's not too big of an issue.

Did anyone play Alpha Centauri? Man, I loved that effin game. They should make another one of those, or a mod or something.

There is a good Mod of SMAC for BtS ,called Planetfall . It is still in alpha phase, but besides looking extremely good, it has some cool mechanics ( they even have a unit workshop :woohoo: )

And to add more religions, the culture victory needs to be somewhat changed. I wonder what 58 cathedrals in 1 city could do for your :culture:

I'd point out that there is no archealogical evidence for the exodus of Hebrews from Egypt. If it was so big and important an event, you'd think the Egyptians would have written it down.

Herny VIII wasn't that good at war. Battle of <Tri - fal` - guh> (not even going to try to spell that) wasn't even a battle, it was a hasty French retreat. His first wife Catherine of Aragon won a much more important battle against the Scots. Also, he was so stupid he killed her, even though she was a super fine Spanish honey.

I wouldn't call Saladin a religious extremist. He unified the Muslim world and drove out the marauding crusaders. He treated his enemies with dignity and respect. He allowed his subjects to openly practice any religion. I'd call him the greatest king the Arabs have ever had.

Could put Henry the Lionheart into a scenario or make him a GG.

Of Greece, everything is great, but call the UU a hoplite, not a phalanx. Phalanx is a formation of troops, hoplites were the men in the formation.

I feel very bad whenever I get into a fight with Sitting Bull. They should make him less pushy.

Although I'm also skeptical on the early Jewish "empire," there is at least a possible reason as to why the Egyptians didn't make note of it: Pride. It was pretty common for them to only write about things that had a positive effect on Egypt or a negative effect on someone else.

And true he wasn't good at war, but he was still a warmonger. Just... really bad at it.

Saladin has been... well, portrayed in a more positive way as of late, with only Richard killing off innocent muslims. In reality, Saladin would do the same. There have even been accounts of him wanting Franks brought before him and executed as a way of kicking off a battle.
I'm not going to say either side was right late in the crusades, both sides were just killing off innocents. ...Although I will say the -first- crusade was initiated by the muslim side, not by the christians. Christian missionaries and pilgrims were being murdered while Christian temples were being burned to the ground. Aide was asked for, and aide came in a kind of disproportional way.

Also, yes! Someone else annoyed by this! It irritates me a bit having to call the unit a "Phalanx." If you're going to call the hoplite a phalanx you might as well call the berserker drunk and angry.

Sitting Bull's AI feels odd. He keeps building up and building up units when I'm in a game with him, if I irritate him even once he'll never forgive me, and he never backs off in a war. Almost seems more like Geronimo than Sitting Bull.
...Then again, I'm unlucky. I've had Gandhi declare war on me. >.>

You would get a Bonus in the modern age though, as soon as the Peter Jackson great person shows up.

Also you'd always be -surrounded- by sheep resources. Everywhere. Mountains, plains, tundra, even the water.
Sadly instead of hit movies, you'd release b-movies (Zombie, Dead Alive, The Ugly...)

No offense to NZers meant, it's a beautiful country.

We're so mismanaged, our 1 worker has not upgraded all the sheep tiles; the one we have built pasture on is traded to Aussie for another sheep!?!

As soon as our GA Peter Jackson is born, we have to gift him to America as tribute. All we are left with is a new 'hobbit' resource tile in the countryside!

Most of our cities are size 5 or less, but once we get 'em up to your guy's levels this clean, green mirage is gonna go to crap like the rest of ya! :sheep::rockon::sheep:

Theres no chance it will be out this year, for one thing it would completely undermine Colonization sales. but I'd be hopeful for a 2009 release, I presume the beta testers are for Colonization, surely? I think a lot will be dependent on wether EA buys Take Two.
