For Civ5 so far we gained this gameplay info:
  1. Religions (and so things like the Apostolic Palace) have been dumped
  2. Terrain now consists of hex tiles, as in Panzer General
  3. There is a "new combat system" for "massive wars"
  4. There is "more exciting and tactical combat" and "ranged bombardment"
  5. The Announcement Trailer seems to emphasize conflicts
On the other side apart from "deeper diplomacy" we heard little yet about improvements in regards of gameplay for Builders. What do you think?

  • Should Civ5 bring more for Warmongers and less for Builders?
  • Should expansion by warfare become more attractive?
  • What do you think in comparison to Civ4?

To answer the title; I would think that the indication is that whilst you'll have to think about wars more when you are fighting them, they will not dominate the game quite as much as previously. Purely based on the cap on units per tile.

I don't really play Civ4 so im not sure if that was in there but I hope they change the AI so they will be much more likey to trade your land to you when not pressured by war. Trading land was a BIG DEAL in history.

ex. The Louisiana Purchase

Indications are that land trading will be more of a feature; see the Civilization V website. So hopefully this is the case, which should, theoretically, reduce the likelihood of war. However, I have absolutely no idea what the implications of this are for culture, so the likely demotion of that could have the effect of making the game more war-oriented, or at least less-non-war-oriented (:hmm:).

How would it make it more wa-oriented? Attacking people so they feel more threatend to give you land?

Well, I'm just thinking that if culture isn't really in the game to the same extent, you won't have that option for taking over tiles. Making war more likely without any sort of solid diplomacy system.

This is the stupidest poll ever. Anyone who plays Civ games would prefer improved gameplay for both warmongers and builders. Why would they vote for either of the other two options?

Obviously some people already did. But the idea of this poll actually was to see if it would be ok for people if Civ5 indeed would bring more for Warmongers and less for Builders, as the current info indicates (Religions dropped, Warfare improved).

I for one couldn't ever bring myself to really play anything else than a builder in Civ IV, I was terrible at making war and enjoyed building cities and hoarding wonders way more. It's hard to shift playstyles from something you feel comfortable in.
But I'm not really worried, Civilization has always been about building, so I doubt they'll shift focus to warmongering in this version. After all, you have to build something to make it worth conquering, no?

I am more of a builder than a warmonger myself. I think Firaxis will strive for a balance between the two. Hopefully they will give out some information in the next month or two about what will be added for builders.
