Civ5 PDF manual is here!

I don't think i like this new victory condition. Wouldn't it mean that it would be possible to win the domination victory without fighting a single battle? If civ E get island start far away from everyone else, and the rest fight each other such that they all lose their capital (e.g. A capture B, C, and D's capital, then B captures A's capital), E will suddenly win the game?

I find it a little screwy too. Peter Murray said in the crapcast yesterday that it's happened to him, and I read in one of the other previews or reviews about it happening. So it doesn't seem THAT rare. Probably situations where several AIs are going for domination and manage to sack each others caps.

The brady guide says if you're doing for domination and let your capital get taken, you might as well give up and go for something else, because you pretty much just ruined your chance at domination.

I'm very surprised to see that all of the world wonders (with the exception of only two) give only one culture. Why so little culture from all world wonders?

Seems odd to me too, that a wonder gives less culture than a monument (or any generic culture structure). Then stonehenge of all things is EIGHT culture. Maybe it's due to lack of upkeep costs. Usually you're paying for culture.

Some people are bothered that they put the words "pissed off" in a manual for a game with Nuclear Missiles, Giant Death Robots and an objective to destroy all other civilizations on the planet?

This is very reflective of our (USA) culture. Killing, murder, adultery, death, child abuse, rape, destruction - are all common in TV, books, movies, games, etc - but foul language is a no no. It's all very silly.

So let me get this straight...

Not bothered so much as surprised, since this is an E title. If it was T or M I wouldn't even be surprised.

Kudos for the attacking from hills bonus! I always missed that, especially for mounted units. Thanks! :D

I preinstalled CIV V via steam and in the file path

C:/Program Files(x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/sid meier's civilization 5/Assets/terriean/pieces

it shows folders for all the terrian types including the seven Natural Wonders by name BUT in each Natural Wonder's folder there are 4 subfolders named Africa, America, Asia & Europe I wonder if that means there will be 4 of each type of Natural Wonder available in each game!! food for thought for us worried about the initiall seemingly small number of wonders.

It was said in one of the podcasts that there are those four different "terrain types" or texture sets. That is what each of those folders is for, I believe.

The manual mentions Lake Titicaca on page 35 under Natural Wonder description but both the Terrian Feature list on page 206 and the steam install folder holding these from my preinstallation only show:

Barringer Crater
Grand Mesa
Great Barrier Reef
Krakatoa
Mt. Fuji
Old Faithfull
Rock of Gibraltar

However as in my last post the sub-folders on the preinstall show subfolders named Africa, America, Asia & Europe for each of the wonders. I wonder if additional wonders were taken out or if more are going to be DLC or if they changed their mind or if this was just a random example given in discriptions. If the perminant number is only seven then I hope that the subfolders i mentioned will provide 4 different examples of each Natural Wonder. Anyone have more info on this?

Thanks.

EDIT:Just saw your previous post AZSprotsfan thanks, that is dissapointing then...

on page 30, it says that mountains are impassable (duh), but it also says that they provide a +25% combat bonus. how does that work?

Page 6 says the game will have "achievements". :cringe: :wallbash:

Geek: Gunships can move onto mountains iirc, so it probably only applies to them.

I thought the same thing, then figured since it is impassible for everything EXCEPT aircraft, that the bonus might apply to helicopters.

Page 212. Helicopter gunship gets "no defensive bonuses".

But with the number of errors in manual, who knows?

Chopping down a jungle results in a plain tile rather than a grassland tile now? :( Now we have a reason to not cop it down besides the bonus they provide with uni's.

"Culture is a measurement of your civilization’s commitment to and appreciation of the arts and humanities – everything from cave paintings and Tiki heads to “Hamlet,” or Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony to Lady Gaga’s latest video"

One of these things does not belong. I would not have Lady Gaga in the same league as Beethoven and Hamlet. In fact, I would rather look at the cave paintings.

Not a fan of this on page 14:

"On levels higher than Prince, the AIs receive increasing bonuses in city growth, production,
and technology. They may also get additional starting units and free techs to boot."

Id rather they just make the AI smarter as it goes up then give bonus techs and units.

It is modern pop culture though. You can look away but it is there and it is very real.

So, can someone explain to me the diplomatic victory? Like I said earlier in the thread, it seems to me no civ is ever going to vote for anyone other than themselves, unless they have been liberated. So basically you can't win diplomatically until a big bad boy has captured everyone and you liberate them one after the other?

Answer: Each civ and City-State gets one vote, no matter their population size. Number of City-States = 2 * Number of civs, by default.
