Civ7 now includes Denuvo

I look at it this way. I am a paying customer. I am paying full price for your game on Steam, which already has its own DRM. Why are you treating me as a criminal?

Also, Denuvo is not free, so all paying customers are subsidizing it.

I'll be buying this on PS5 instead, where I still have rights of resale with the physical disc, and am not directly supporting the use of Denuvo.
Steam drm has very little against cracking. So little that it is meaningless.

So denuvo and steam drm are for different use cases and you need another product against cracking.

You don't, though. The overwhelming majority of games don't both with Denuvo, including many AAA games and others that sell millions of copies.

I wanted to highlight the community feedback survey currently available on Civ 7's page on Steam. It's an opportunity to express your overall feelings about what you've heard so far about Civ 7, what new features interest you, what you're concerned about, etc. Specifically to this thread, if you are less likely to buy the game because of Denuvo, you can say that, because they specially ask about it. Or if you're happy about or generally support them using Denuvo, you can say that, too, although I think you have to write that in under Other.
Thanks for the heads up! I filled out the survey and let them know how I feel about Denuvo.

Given that "Denuvo is a deal breaker" was one of the selectable options for why I haven't yet pre-ordered the game, it seems that even Firaxis knows that Denuvo is unpopular. Hopefully, it'll be removed before launch.

I wouldn't be surprised if the survey was added in part in response to this thread (and maybe equivalents elsewhere) - basically a way to gauge whether it's "just" a vocal minority that opposes Denuvo so strongly, or whether it's a more widespread sentiment.

Just filled out the survey as well. Ditch Denuvo.
The linux version better be good, as when win10 goes EOL, it's linux only for me.
(yes, proton is acceptable. Win11 is not.)

Did the survey...get rid of Denuvo.

I appreciate that they're trying.

Just a heads up... Did the survey myself...

Since they ask the specific question about having already pre-ordered the game and I honestly answered YES, I was NOT given any option to comment on Denuvo inclusion once that was done...
I guess the options to give feedback on Denuvo or any negative feeling on the game comes with answering NO to the pre-order question.

Personally, I would have liked to state that I'm not very happy about Denuvo even if it didn't stop me from pre-ordering !

Thought people should know...

35 pages in and I still have yet to see a compelling reason for me to care about the inclusion of Denuvo.

I haven't yet pre-ordered, but am very much likely to. Denuvo has nothing to do with why I haven't. I haven't because I still want to see more gameplay previews and I'm waiting to see if I can get a decent preorder discount somewhere. GMG has 15% off right now, but am wondering if it might go higher during the holiday season.

Besides, as there is no scarcity for digital pre-orders I have up until the day before release to still get any pre-order bonuses. What's the rush?

Thanks for the heads up about the survey, I have answered it.

For me, the main reason for not preordering is a combination of concerns about 2K's business practices, DRM, pricing and how monetization may negatively impact quality, as I feel it did for Civ 6.

In some sense, I feel like the survey itself kind of illustrates the problem:
  • Firaxis, an excellent developer which has made some of my favourite games of all time, is asking for input. That's great, I would love to.
  • Before answering, I am asked to read and accept 2K's Terms and Conditions. I pasted it into a text editor - it's about 11500 words of legal stuff they wanted to attach to the front of the survey.

This is basically my position as well, except I preordered a few weeks ago.

I'm not convinced about the benefits of Denuvo's inclusion, and would prefer it to not be in because of that, but it's also not a significant negative for me. Had it been Denuvo Anti-Cheat, which people keep confusing it with, that would've been different. I might still have bought it, but not without much more thought.

Since you seem obsessed with buying this game as cheaply as possible, I'm surprised that the fact the company pays Denuvo quite a bit of money for their software, undoubtedly passing on the cost to consumers, isn't a valid reason for you to care.

As has been pointed out in other threads, the game is cheaper (compensated for inflation) than it's predecessor.

So I'm not sure where that cost is being passed on. Or maybe it just doesn't weigh up to cost reductions elsewhere, who knows.

Waiting to see if a good preorder deal comes up for a game that won't be out for 3 more months makes me obsessed? Lol

Yet more expensive than other AAA games.

It's interesting widely the prices compared to each other vary by region. They're all £59.99 apart from one, which is £54.99.

And it's still more expensive than other AAA games in Australia.
